Nigel Adkins to be confirmed as new manager today according to Echo, Solent etc...

Good track record in this league and has a better squad to work with now. Lets get behind him and start winning games. He deserves his chance to proove he can handle a bigger club with money to spend and seems an intelligent guy when I have heard him.

He should bring a lot of enthusiasm and no little skill. Nice to see us go for a Manager on the up with something to proove!

Will be interesting to see the makeup of his coaching team.

Welcome to Saints Nigel, and good luck!

Probably Another manager next summer then.

bit harsh really?

every young manager needs a big break, and this is probably Adkins chance to prove his real worth. Why does everyone seem to be assuming he'll fail?

He's not the big name we hoped for, no, but that doesn't mean he's a bad manager does it?

is it better to have a manager who has got teams promoted twice (to their highest ever league position) and relegated once (in other words getting a team to over perform) or a bigger name who has got a big team relegated (underperform).

Hard one in appointing managers but certainly feel adkins sensible choice.

Cheap option and an indication of how the club is planning to operate IMO.

I would prefer it if he got his 'big break' elsewhere, always aim as high as you can afford and I don't think this has happened.

That was when we had Saint Markus.......(MONEY). Thats obviously not the case anymore, there's not the same cash or risk taking and probably the reason we got rid of Pardew in the first place. Of course were going to go for the cheap option, I'll get behind this Adkins fella but at the moment definitely unsure if it is the right decision.

I've got a feeling Adkins will surprise a few people. Got a very decent track record for this level of football. The fact he has gone from being a physio to a successful manager should be seen as a positive, he hasn't taken an easy or conventional route, so must be good to have done so well compared to those who have management handed to them on a plate.

Just heard on Solent that there's a last minute hitch.

First, Cortese wanted him to resign from Scunny so we'd get out of paying the compo.

Also, he wanted Adkins to take training today. Solent reports Adkins wants to say goodbye to his players, and is presently in Humberside.

Fonte came because his club was in financial trouble.

To answer your question I don't know who I would have gone for but I would have gone for the best man available, somebody who has managed at the highest level, somebody with plenty of contacts, somebody who wouldn't take any sh!t off of the players.....but most importantly somebody who could get us into the prem in the shortest time.

The above is certainly not Adkins,he has done well in his short time as manager but I would prefer an established manager, who has done his 'up and coming' already,Adkins is a gamble IMO,a gamble that I am not willing to back.
