Do we need to rest him? make him fight his way back into the squad? great win today coys

If there others that are performing better then of course we rest him. The skill of the manager is to this without destroying his confidence or enthusiasm. There has to be a reason for RL's loss of form and RL may need time to sort it out.

Lambert should be rested even sent on a holiday (health farm would be good) as he is a shadow of himself. We will need him as we attack those play-off places after Christmas, surely now this is time to let him get a rest and come back raring to go.[/quote

Lambert was awful today.. Compared to his normal standards... Barnard offered alot more when he came on

Unfortunately his normal standards this season have been pretty low, and I actually thought he had one of his better games today

Unfortunately, that just highlights how bad he's been in the other matches this season :( he'll get his form back at some point but I think he's behind Guly and Barnard in the pecking order now

I feel that after a very tired start he's now realising that one or two of the younger players are a wee bit more hungrier than he is.

Today he was laying balls off for Guli ergo, he's taking a back seat. I'd lay him off for a few weeks, maybe bring him back for a coupl eof givens and then let him go for similar money to what we paid for him. Did a great job last time out but maybe he found his level and sadly we are now headed to a higher one.

I'm gonna bore people with this mantra, but we should go and get Simeon Jackson imo.

lay off lambert hes a quality player he will find his scoring shoes soon every player goes through bad patches

You can't carry an out of form player forever, especially if you want to be promoted. I'd drop him for a few games and let him get his head in order. Makes you look at those rumours again though, what with his crazy lull of form.

He's been suffering a lack of confidence since Pardew left. Hopefully he'll bag a goal on his right peg from open play, that should give him a boost and he'll be back. It's just a lack of luck and confidence.

It'll come. Keep him in the starting XI, sub him if it's not going his way.

He was suffering whilst Pardew was still here TBF.

Come to think of it, he was. Maybe we brought him back too quickly from the groin injury? That sort of injury can really mess you up. We all know how much Pardew needed Lambert for his style of play, maybe he brought him back too soon in desperation.

Bring in someone in January. Charlie Austin perhaps??

It could have been, but then they were all banging on how he was in perfect fitness at the start of the season. We don't know what went on behind the scenes, could it have been a falling out between Pardew and Lambert ?? Or other reasons ??

Either way something is wrong with our Rickie, he hasn't been performing like we know he can.

OR

Is it because of all the hero worship has changed my view slightly of him ?? I remember saying last year he looks lethargic and didn't cut it in a few games, maybe he is the Lambert we know but because we have been building him up so so much he hasn't lived up to it ?

The truth is somewhere in between for me, all i do know is its a balancing act between waiting in order to help him with his confidence and not harming our fortunes on the pitch.

Edit - But yes, i think we need replacements. If not to bolster our front line because i think Connelly has had it as a force now, perhaps offer him and Wotton backroom roles and employ a new quality young striker and a quality all round midfielder.

Rickie's definitely carrying an injury, there's no other explanation really. He's just looked completely out of sorts, very slow, not in the game and not winning any headers. Drop him for a few games - a few weeks away from football ought to do him a world of good. We have Bignall, Barnard and Guly to play up front, and also Doble (who is pretty much an unknown quantity tbh) as well as Garrod if need be. Barnard and Guly were fantastic against Tranmere and worked well yesterday as well, so we should definitely give them a start against Notts Co on saturday.

Fair play to him for playing yday with a concussion though, I had a concussion playing rugby a few years back and didn't know what the hell was going on for ages afterwards - not sure I could've been playing again a few days later!

I seem to recall that in the first few games teams were shutting him out with a constant 2 players on him, now it appears that he's not seen as such a threat and is resorting to running through more often (almost unmarked on occasion).

He worked his socks off last season and I for one would not be against giving him a short sabbatical and hopefully he can come back better and stronger.

i think he's both physically and mentally tired.

btw, people wanting to see Chambo start might want to consider that he might be more effective when the opposition are tiring. maybe RL coming off the bench might work better too?
