Adkins the motivator.

So, after the Carlisle game he was pretty critical of the players, saying some would need to buck their ideas up. He also starts mentioning the names of fringe players publicly in his interviews, saying that they are knocking on the door.

Subsequently Morgan is dropped to the bench, and Harding completely and Puncheon is moved on after his poor form.

We then get a much improved performance

Looks like he knows how to get to the players and make them tick to me.

I have a very good feeling that he will get Lambert scoring again soon too.....

On this basis I'm surprised he's stuck with lambert this long. He needs a rocket up his arse.

I guess but I would have thought Adkins would be expecting him to score lots (it's what he's there for) and he's not..

Can't wait till he finds his shooting feet again, personally....

To be honest i think its great that other players are stepping up when Lambert isn't scoring, we need goals from all over the park. Lambert will start firing soon.

There was a moment in todays game when the ball was heading to the posh goal line, there was a Posh player pursuing it with Rickie in hot pursuit yu saw him look over his shoulder and in the next second it was if he thought " cripes Rickie Lambert is breathing down my neck, lets just launch this into the stands" = a throw in deep in there half.

To be honest after last season Lambert was always going to struggle to live up to it, plus every team we play will be focusing on him, probably freeing up some of our other players to grab the headlines.

He was good today. He isn't just about goals, or otherwise he wouldn't be in the team at the moment.

He'll still end up with 25+

I was more than happy with him yesterday. One assist and I right handful. It's driving me crackers how he constantly fouled everytime a ball comes near him (shirt pulling, arms wrapped around him, yesterday he even had a hand over his face as he went up for a header) yet barely anything is given.

We also have to bear in mind that we are playing a totally different game now to what we did under AP. We are no longer playing the "Give it to Lambert" game, but are playing attractive, passing football and it is bringing not only our forwards into goal scoring opportunities, but usually 3 of our 4 midfielders are now giving options. The goals will come for him but he is getting noticeably less chances than that of last season.

A few around me were slagging him off yesterday. To me, it's utter madness. There is nobody in this division I would rather see leading our attacking line. First touch is excellent, he awareness is worthy of a higher level and he causes headaches for defences. Time to get off his back and appreciate what else he does for us when he isn't breaking the net.

Lambert still put in a great centre forwards performance today.

I can hardly remember single a shot on target, so describing yesterdays performance as "great" might just be stretching it a tad don't you think ?

When it comes to Ricky Lambert this forum is starting to remind me of Mr Micawber in 'David Copperfield' - we've been reduced to just blindly trusting that "something will turn up" rather than dealing with reality. Optimism has its place but it's getting to the stage now when the club will need to seriuosly consider spending some of this cash mountain we're supposed to be sitting on and sign another (proven) striker in January.

If we don't then the consequences could be severe.
