VectisSaint Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 but what are we going to do with him? play him in the under 21s? Backup for Morgan and Hammond, as Chaplow's loan expires before the next game, ecen if he joins permanently unlikely to be completed before Saturday. Window Cleaner Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 Backup for Morgan and Hammond, as Chaplow's loan expires before the next game, ecen if he joins permanently unlikely to be completed before Saturday. So Gobern after being given a brief hope of a bit of progress is now consigned to the dustbin again just because we have to find a place for Wootton again. I don't doubt that Chaplow will be available on Saturday.Don't know how they'll arrange that but I'm sure that it will happen.I thought his loan ended on the 3rd Jan as well, probably because it seemed more sensible that it was like that though.Otherwise we'd have to register any permanent move by the 30th or 31st and as that isn't in the window it can't be done. can't see that we'd leave a blank period of 1 or 2 games for a player we hope to sign permanently really. Appy Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 I don't think they're going to be signing anyone any time soon. Plymouth supporting cousin of mine said that when the money comes in from the sales of BWP and Noone, assuming their embargo gets lifted that they will look to sign him on a free. Apparently he is keen on a move back to Devon. How much truth is in that we'll see.

Loans run between registration periods, therefore Chaplow's loan expires before the transfer window opens on 1st January, so 31st December is the last day of his loan. Clubs cannot fix a loan to complete on 2nd Jan or 3rd Jan (unless rules have changed this season). A new loan could be started on 1st January, or his loan could be made permanent between now and 1st January. Both are possible, but probability is that the business will not be done tomorrow or Friday (will be glad if it is). Clubs don't usually like to play their cards on the 1st day of the window, most activity will happen as usual in the last few days of Jan. Not sure why you mention Oscar Gobern, completely different type of player (attacking MF) to the cover provided by Wotton (defensive MF). I think NA would be mental to have no more cover for Hammond/Spiderman than Gobern, however good he is.

That would kind of defeat the object of the window surely?
NickG Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 think Wooton is good sub, when have a lead but are having heavy pressure on us at the end of a game
beatlesaint Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 think Wooton is good sub, when have a lead but are having heavy pressure on us at the end of a game I would rather have Wooton come on as sub than Oscar Gobern to be honest. Window Cleaner Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 I would rather have Wooton come on as sub than Oscar Gobern to be honest. No doubt, but one of the club's main aims is to create a talent pathway between the academy and the first team. If there's no outlet because the path is bunged up with Wottons and Forecasts it defeats the object.

The Player Registration could not be transferred until the window opens but the deal can be done I believe, therefore cannot play on the permanent deal until the window opens. Could happen in this case, could already have happened I would guess, but it doesn't sound like it from what has been said so far.
St Chalet Posted 29 December, 2010 Share Posted 29 December, 2010 As others have noted, Wotton is ok as a sub to lock down a game and sit in front of the defence. Many others have noted that with the fixture congestion a strong squad will be even more advantageous this season. I don't think Paul Wotton is the greatest player to ever grace St Mary's but he is a solid pro with bags of FL experience.
