Staplewood today

Was up at Staplewood today watching my nephew play for the under 13s against Reading. On the pitch behind me the squad minus the starting XI yesterday were involved in a game being overlooked by Wilkins. A few tasty challenges going in, was good to see the players training at such high intensity.

The starting XI then walked over having been to the gym. Was good to see Alex OC, Lambert and Jaidi in particular paying close attention to the game my nephew was involved in.

I noticed about 20 minutes later Nigel Adkins was standing a few yards away to my left watching the game as well. He only stayed for 10 minutes or so but it was good to see the manager of the club taking an interest in the kids.

Paul Williams is my nephews team coach. Great to see such a model pro involved still with the club despite his relatively short association as a player with us. He's really vocal and the kids all love playing for him. My god he's a unit these days though!

Nice to hear. I was there officiating on the U14s game and apparently Nige and Andy Crosby watched that for a while too. I didn't notice (obviously concentrating too hard :p) and the only way I knew the first team was there was that I was parked next to a car with the numberplate F6NTE hahaa

Yeah I saw that. Lallana has got something like ADZ L20 as well. Nice Range Rover Sport.

Or have tours of the facilities?.

Not particularly impressive relative to other clubs at the moment. Would only be worth going on a tour when construction is finished on the training ground in the summer of 2012. I doubt they'd do public tours then though, probably a video tour on Saints player is the best you will get.

The development will have a similar(ish) spec to this and is designed by the same people...

Neither of you going to tell us anything about the games then? :D

Haha sorry. Our U14s won 7-3, 2 goals in literally the first 3 mins. They play four 20 min quarters and it was 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. No goals in the second. Reading got one back from a poor kick from our keeper. We then scored 5 in the last two quarters, also missing a penalty and Reading got one from another keeping error on our part. Deserved win in the end.

I've officiated on the U13s as well twice in the last few weeks and must say that our left back (Olly I think he's called) looks a brilliant prospect as does our right back and the striker who is the tallest player in the team (if anyone can work out who they are!). :)

No player called Olly in the 13's and out of the whole XI the left back and the striker (who is the smallest player in the team!) are probably the weak links although I feel a bit guilty saying that given their ages. The tallest players in the side are probably the 2 centre backs.

Under 13's won 2-0 though.

I hope you booed this keeper.

Could be Olly Harfield who is left footed and right age and at the academy. Played for Baddesley with my nipper...stood out at that level.

I was hoping this was going to be one of those, "I saw an athletic looking black man with an earing and some shiny trainers" threads.

But Paul Williams will do.

Dan Seabourne was wearing a flat cap if it helps.

Forgot to say Hoskins was looking very sharp. Quite small in build but looks very handy.
