personally, the sooner we are back in the prem (however long that takes) the better....sooner have a flirt with relegation to a flirt with europe than this utter, UTTER tripe..

give me the over hyped egos in the prem where every single defeat will never be as bad as losing to a team with olly lancashire at the back...or jimmy walker in goal etc etc

I hate league 1

I enjoyed last season, was a real feel good factor at the club , and it was good to see us win games, win them in style, and win the JPT. This season however, i just want promotion out of here, nothing less will do. If we dont , we could be stuck here for some time ( assuming our better players will want out .....and who knows what happens to NC and his 5 year plan ........)

I've no idea why some on here keep saying they'd rather us be in The Championship/League 1 than the Premiership

In League 1 we got to places like Walsall and Hartlepool, who have no fans. Even when we convincingly beat teams like we did against Swindon last week it's hard to get excited. Last season was ok only for the fact there were a lot of new grounds but the novelty has well and truly worn off now. The thought of another year in League 1 makes me feel sick.

About a month back someone started a thread on here saying they hope we get back to The Championship, but not the Prem. Do people remember how bad it was for us in the Championship? Going to places like Hull, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday and getting absolutely hammered. Watching rubbish players like Ryan Smith, Ollie Lancashire and Jordan Robertson. Even in our play off season we were rubbish in about half our games. Why people look so favourably towards the Championship I have no idea. People really do have short memories.

Give me the Premiership any day. Where we'd have better players, and play much better football. A full stadium with better atmosphere. Away grounds where more than 3000 people turn up. Where we can test ourselves against the very best, and occasionally beat the likes of Man United and Liverpool like we used to.

League 1 is rubbish. The Championship is rubbish. The sooner we get back to the Premiership the better.

Go ask Blackpool or Stoke fans what they prefer. Slumming it in the lower leagues as they did for years or beating the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premiership?

I was quite happy to spend a second season in league one becuase I figured us winning it as champions by christmas would put us in good stead for the champoinship (were I'd be happy to stay until the prem destroys it's self) and it's nice being a big fish in a little pond for a while. Sadly I didn't expect us to sack our cup winning manager three league games into the season or that we would spend most of the season wishing we were as good as Bournemouth. Still never mind like leeds sooner or later we will get promoted and can go back to being the little fish in a big pond.

I see where you are coming from doddi...but I really cannot get excited about the JPT..it is a complete micky mouse cup..even the teams year in year out who are pushing for the top of league 1 tend to not take it too seriously

When we've won as many trophies as arse or manure we can afford to be picky but seeing as we've won pretty much diddly squat in the last 40 years prehaps we should treasure what ever we get?

Loved it last season hating it this season.

Exactly where I am coming from too. The standard this season is appalling and we are just as bad lately.

Swindon were shocking and we let them dominate for 25 minutes and got out of jail.

We are serial bottlers and play-offs at best for me...not even the final unless we find some magic formula.

I still think we will rue not getting in McKail-Smith....N'Guessan and Forte are not the standard of players we should of signed

and we needed the insurance that MCKS would of bought us not a 10 goals in 118 games player.

People laughed and mocked when I said we should of got BWP....yep he is doing really badly at Charlton.

I was going to say this +1, however I'm not really hating this season, just starting to loose interest. I missed the Carlisle game because for the first time in ages I just couldn't be bothed to go. It was nice to have my Saturday back.

I would love to get back to the premiership but equally I'm enjoying my Saturdays out with the boys for a few beers and a laugh. The football is incidental to that in many respects so for me its not the be all and end all and whilst I am unhappy when we get a bad result such as Brentford at home or Notts Co at home, it doesn't tend to last long as its all about the day out.

I miss the buzz of a packed house and beating a big boy like manure, but I actually think this ever increasing period out of the top flight is exactly what I needed as I know I will appreciate being there a hell of a lot more when we return than I did when we were there previously - well for a season at least!

We wont go up this season. We will lose our best players and start next season weaker, but get promoted when we don't expect it as much, imo.

our best players might go, and that's a major concern for me, but Adkins or whoever is in charge just need to buy the right players with that money and as you say we can go up next season.

Yeah, I do. It's still bloody marvellous compared to turning up week after week to watch 11 random scandinavian international scuffling nobodies lose to 11 other better and more cosmopolitan random international nobodies in the Prem.

I'd rather we were in the Championship though for the time being, and then if we can fast track straight to the Champions' League and save all the rubbish beforehand, that would be fine too.

Then after a couple of seasons of winning the World Club Championship we should get the club transferred to MLS as a franchise and I can satiate my need for interesting competitive matches between decent pros without any pretence.

Umm, people want to be in the Championship because they know we're unlikely to go into admin and field a half-baked team of kids next time around, plus it has many of the same benefits of League One without all the drawbacks of the Prem.

Although I will admit this season's Championship is full of utterly dire teams, hence Leeds and Norwich being in with a shout, a year after being worse than us head to head and "more better" than the rest.

We were rubbish in the Championship the whole time we were down there, not just the last season when we were playing with kids. Even in our play off season we were pretty bad on the whole. I remember numerous occasions that season fans chanting "You're not fit to wear the shirt" at the players. The football was poor and we often got completely outplayed by teams like Colchester. The only reason anyone got excited that season was because they thought we had a chance of getting out of that ****ty league. Go ask Coventry fans what they prefer? Surviving in the Prem by the skin of their teeth like they did in the 90s or finish about 15th year after year in the Championship like they do now? Ask Wolves, Birmingham, Blackpool, Newcastle and Stoke fans what they prefer.

We were pretty rubbish in the PL too (yes I know we beat Man U and Liverpool a couple of times but still). Is this a varation on the only turning up to watch Manure. What your basically saying is it doesn't matter if were rubbish along as we're being rubbish while playing the likes of Arsenal rather than colchester?

To be honest, I'm still quite enjoying the ride. Obviously who we play impacts on the experience, but ultimately I enjoy (mostly) watching Saints whoever we're playing. I miss the bigger atmospheres and obviously staying down here for a prolonged time will impact on attendances and the atmosphere that generally goes with it. Finding the football a little more honest, if not more raw and somewhat less technical.

Didn't do loads of aways last year, so still visiting some new grounds.

Maybe if we were just bumbling around mid table then things would be different for me, but there is still that element of anticipation each game I go to a game (last year it was being reborn plus a Cup run and this year we are still in the promotion hunt).

Maybe my boredom threshold will be next year if we don't go up this year and aren't on the verge next season either!!!!

I don't care what you assume other clubs' fans think, because I exist at our club and I don't think like that.

Sorry, i said it last season, but i f*cking hate this poxy f*cking league.

Championship has a buzz IMO, because the majority of the teams in there will match each other and in all honesty if you lost to even one of the lower teams you could accept it, but playing and even losing to the likes of tranmere, walsall and yoevil is just f*cking soul destroying.

I do think some people need a reality check. Mainly the players that is, but we do not have a divine right to beat every team we come up against. Clubs bigger than us, and as big as us have been stuck at this level and it's taken them years to get back out again.

Yes, on paper, a club with the fans we have should be expected to beat the likes of Wallsall every time, but consistency has been a problem for this club for years and I think complacency certainly plays a large part

Adkins knows what it takes to get out of this division with less resources than he has available at Southampton and most of the team he has were not his own signings. I wasn't overly impressed by the track record of N'Guessan when he signed on loan and I'd never heard of Forte, so when the sub gets subbed (Ali Dia?) you have to wonder wtf is going on.

I have no particular desire to see Saints back in the Premier League if when we get there, ticket prices get hiked again and we suffer seasons of struggle because we cannot compete with the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal.

I don't see us getting an automatic spot this season because Brighton are consistent and so are Bournemouth
