US now proposing that all visitors have to disclose their last 5 years of social media content along with phone contacts, email addresses etc, regardless of whether they need a visa or not as well as biometrics and a selfie for an ESTA application.

US plans to start checking all tourists' social media | US News | Sky News

I imagine Palantir or other mates of the orange gibbon like Elon will be allowed access to this info as well.

But what if you don't do Social Media ? I don't use X, TikTok, Instagram, or any other platform.  Just another reason NOT to visit the "Land of the Free". Is Trump so paranoid and afraid of criticism ?

Meanwhile under labour we have a record number if arrests for social media posts. The UK now leads the world in NO free speech. But nope, it's only Trump doing it.

We have free speech Nic. Fortunately we also have an increased intolerance for nasty bastards who go over the top and down the otherside. We also have people who are too thick (and usually bigoted) to understand the difference. I cast no aspersions of course.

Disagree. I dont think people have become less tolerant. The tolerance levels for reasonable challenge has softened, hence you get stupid stuff like the Graham Linehan incident. The police and judiciary are much keener to take action in relation to matters that, 15 years ago nobody would have sniffed at.

Observation....you never make a good point ever. Just personal attacks and emojis. Provide a half decent rebuttal if you disagree rather than attacking the character.

Hahahahahaha.... you are and your new mate are the ones who stamp their feet when we don't agree with your utter drivel.

You two are a perfect partners, one supports child poverty and the other is a trump/Putin apologist but the biggest connection is that you both are both stupid

1. Joey Barton.

2. 15 years ago people didn't post death threats to brown people on the web, rape threats to women, etc.

3. Etc.

You don't make points. You post babble, then claim it was a trap that proves that you have "outed" some other poster.  When people challenge you you put up a laughing emoji and disappear for a while, otherwise ignoring anything that shows you up for the petulant child you are.

No wonder people assume you like Trump.

I agree that social media has given a platform for people to stay things in public that they couldnt before but I still think those people would have held the views regardless. If anything I think people are less likely to say / do things that are discriminatory than say 10-15 years ago but maybe the platform is greater.

That's a terrible point. People holding views is completely different to people making threats and inciting violence viewable by the world at large.

20th globally, according to this.

I think there are, like, 24 countries in the world, or something, so we're not quite leading the world in NO free speech.

Section on USA is interesting:

After a century of gradual expansion of press rights in the United States, the country is experiencing its first significant and prolonged decline in press freedom in modern history, and Donald Trump’s return to the presidency is greatly exacerbating the situation.

You have free speech in the USA if you support Trump. Ask awkward questions or show any kind of criticism towards the orange man baby and you are quickly shut down. In his second term Trump is turning America into an Oligarchy.

Disagree.

People have become more emboldened to say shit in the last few years and that comes directly from the likes of Trump, Farage, Musk and others seemingly being able to say shit and having little or no consequences.

The masses start doing the same and soon realise that there are consequences to being idiots.

Social platforms have given people a route to be rude or a dick etc but it doesn't mean its a free hit to be like that.

Thats fine you can disagree. I obviously never said it was ok to be a dick or threaten people, etc. My personal experience is that people's views havent changed but they are now more willing to confront some of the BS that the woke brigade has pushed unchallenged for the last 10 years or so.

There is a lot of shit coming those influenced by the radical left over recent years on social media, accusing quite reasonable people of having said or done terrible things and making threats to people for holding different views to them. It works both ways.

Being a dick comes isnt an exclusive trait to people you dont agree with. It also includes people who have the same views as you.

Radical left? What have they done that compares to what Trump is doing in the US and what Farage has done to us with Brexit and what he is threatening to do if he becomes PM? He seem happy to turn a blind eye to what the far right and Republican Dictator are doing whilst pretending that the “radical left” pose anything like a threat. And before you include Putin in your definition of “radical left” the bloke is an nationalistic Oligarch.

Come on, tell us what the “radical left” have done that equals 14 years of austerity, the criminal mismanagement of the pandemic, Brexit and Liz Truss’s budget.

Glad to see you coming to the rescue of the radical left. I thought you were a moderate. Do you support the radical left?

Fortunately they havent been in charge in many countries to be able to mess things up. The closest one is Maduro in Venezeula. North Korea is also a socialist state. Both doing a great job following the authoritarian concept of socialism!

The point was about whether people have become more abusive over time - you have conflated two different matters. The examples I was given of the right being abusive was Joey Barton, threats to immigrants and of the rape of women apparently.

Large portions of the radical left is are antisemitic, celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, tried to shut up people highlighting the issues with rape gangs (in fact they werent even radical left), trashed certain cities in the UK during the George Floyd riots....want me to continue. This is before we get onto mad theories around unconscious bias and gender affirming care which has been damaging also. Add to that they tend to have terrible haircuts.

Would you care to define “radical left?”

You think that your list makes a dent in what right wing politics have done to this country n the last 14 years?

You and nutty nic do make a bizarre double act.

As for terrible haircuts. I don’t think that any can be worse than Hitler’s or Trump’s haircuts. Oh, and Boris Johnson’s!

The “Radical Left” have neither been in power nor in opposition in this country in my lifetime. They are not likely to take over the current Labour Party and there is unlikely to be a party made up of “Radical Lefties” that will be challenging for power here any time soon.

Pro Palestinian marches and marches in support of action against climate change and human rights attract all kinds of people. Some of them could be described as “Radical Lefties.”

The far right pose a greater threat to this country. They have already managed to separate us from the EU and are currently busy making sure that their agenda is on the front pages most days. They are already bringing their agendas into local councils. When the “Radical Left” pose such a threat to the government of this country, be sure to let me know.
