SNSUN Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I see he's been released by Palace. Worth a second chance or leave well alone?
peacey Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 If i was manager i would sign him as i think he has unfinished bussiness at st marys and had great potential when with us before. In the prem aganist Blackburn he scored on his debut and looked good, so i feel he could def cut it in the championship. It seems he has just become a bit losed in recent years, and needs a club that can put a arm around him and give him some TLC, and then you never no his football good then do the talking as he was such a bright prospect with us before. Saints would also suit him being young and all, with very small wages if we signed him imagine. If i was Jan i would snap him up untill the end of the season and see how he does.... But im not manager and this is prob why but hay i rate him alot and allways have done. Good luck Griffit where ever you go....
m4ttdog Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 we could get him here for low wages for the rest of the season, very little wages, plus he's a wide player or we could use him in the hole which is something we could use for competition the only problem may be we dont have georges prost with us, and he might have been that figure to bring the best out of him
Scudamore Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Looking at his stats on wikipedia he actually does look like the sort of player we've been signing recently! Lots of clubs...no real impact at any of them...was hailed as potential early on in his career but has made nothing of it...and finally wouldn't want much in wages... I'm sure Rupert's looking into it!
saintjay77 Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 was it his attitude that helped him pack his bags with us before? I wonder if his tour round his many clubs have gone some way to sorting that out? If Palace have released him I am guessing it hasnt and im not sure we have the right people at our club to put him in his place so I cant see him resurecting his career back with us some how. Shame though because like someone else said, his debut goal against blackburn was outstanding and he looked like he could have been a massive hit for club and fans. (not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I seem to remember that he was ideally suited to a 4-3-3 formation, he was too attacking to be an orthodox wide player but didn't score enough for stiker. I can see why Arry would have taken against him.... the nob. I think he'd bring some much needed pace and trickery to the side, although I seem to recall there were, unsubstantiated rumours that he and Folly were disruptive and had attitude problems... which is a shame because they both showed great promise when they broke into the team. To be honest we could do a lot worse than simply re-signing all the academy players that Redknapp and Burley let go for peanuts.

Rebel Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Griffit and Folly! 2 players that got away. Did the club fail them or they fail the club though? Personally I think we should have stuck with both of them and given them the time - and coaching - to progress at Saints. I thought when we got relegated they would become mainstays of our CCC team - along with Surman, Dyer, Cranie, Mills, Blackstock and Best! a 4-3-3 with Griffit, Blackstock and Best at the front, Surman and Folly in midfield would probably be a lot better than what we've got now or had in recent seasons

Not sure about Griffit, though he was very good at times, but erratic. I wish we had kept them all though.
cellone Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Reading this thread I have just remembered counter bragging to a Mc Unted fan that we had our own Ronaldo in the making after watching LG's debut (note to self, wind neck in and ignore armchair fan's when drunk). Still, I'd be happy to see him back just to find out if he can really cut the mustard.
Saint_clark Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Well it was Lowe who "scouted" him so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
Window Cleaner Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Not suited to English football, needs to wander off over the Channel to try and rebuild some sort of career.Probably French second division though. In France all footballers are schooled according to the same coaching methods. These are extremely useful and thorough but they're based on forming generation after generation of Platinis,Cantonas and Blancs.Trouble is they need to much time on the ball for our game.Unless a coach understands the two styles of play and has a system for transforming one into the other most of these young players are headed straight for the dustbin. Perhaps Prost had some sort of knack but seeing as we've signed quite a few and none of them have come through I doubt it. Griffit,Folly,Bayesa plus all the young Italians,Spaniards and Argentines that we've had just prove my point. The English game is different and unless you have the kind of young foreign player capable of taking it by the scruff of the neck and imposing his will on it, then most of them will fail. St Landrew Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I've always thought there was a much better player in Leandre Griffit than we saw at St Marys. He's just the right size, with a really good amount of technical skill and pace. When he scored against... Blackburn Rovers [i'm not 100% sure..?], I thought, here we go. He's breaking through, and we saw him run away to the bench, with the players running after him. It was good times, and Griffit was going to do well for Saints. Then nothing..! I'd take him back, in a heartbeat. Get him ultra fit and working hard on that potential before he becomes just another player who promised much and delivered sod all. He's the sort of player JP or even Glenn Hoddle could really help.

benjii Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 He scored in that 3-3 draw with Wa Toon under Sturrock too I think. The match where Alan Bayney made the best save ever. What happened to him?!
sidthesquid Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 If he or Folly was playing for us now everyone on here would say they were sh1te, but because they're not they're brilliant. Griffit was just another in a long, long line of nippy little wingers who have some talent but no application who promise a lot before drifting off down the leagues. Folly is an adequate CCC holding midfielder, but you wouldn't rate him if you saw him every week and you wouldn't swap him for Surman or Schneiderlin
Arizona Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Surprised he didn´t get more games in our first CCC season when Pahars was injured and Fuller, Kenny and BO couldn´t hit a cow´s arse with a barn door. Apparently his attitude sucked, but 2 goal in 5 Prem outings is a reasonable start to a career. One of those promising stars that drifts into obscurity. Bit like Shev, Tim Sparv and Scott McDona... er maybe not.
