I have translated a couple of paragraphs using Google translator from the 4 page spread in Voetbal International where it mentions Kim van der Waals as below but its not translated very well, well it sounds double dutch to me. If anyone wants the whole 4 page article and would like to translate it let me know and I will send it to you.

Expect a story on this bloke in the Echo sometime this week, now that we've made them aware of this bloke.

The Echo these days would struggle to find out anything about Saints. Just look at the Hockaday matter they did not notice he was not there on Saturday in their first reports. They have zero sources inside the Club and never break any news story.

More chance on this web site of finding out what is going on.

Can you post the original Dutch text please?

I was just going to post that request up to see if you would be kind enough to do the honours.

Does this name mean anything to you or any of your Ducth colleagues???

Aparently he is a regular at matches, Staplewood and St Mary's, but he has never officially been introduced to people.

Someone thinks he was also present at the Osborne Pub Q & A night, but not had that confirmed. The snippet I got was that he was Lowe's footballing advisor and has a say on all the major footballing decisions.

Not sure exacty what that means, or how it relates to Jan and the decision making process, so maybe someone with an in to the Club can get this clarified.

Apparently, this is him.

there must be somebody out there who has contact with a player or two, perhaps they could get them to cofirm who he is?

He is an expert in paintings and has been asked to value The painting of the train.

Result ...Its only a photo and not worth the cost of a frame....

He has been here all season barking out orders and free access to all quarters, unlike many famous ex football stars...No one seems to know his name , other than he is known as the adviser/confidante of Rupert and came with Wotte and JP, package. Some would describe him as an Acting Director of Football when Rupert is absent.....Wonder what Wildey makes of all this.

As stated he has been around St Marys, Staplewood, public Houses and Saints away games... Someone at first thought he was Russian but now like most think he is Jan or Johan......I know him as Dutchey, for obvious reasons.

No rumours about admin....Everyone being paid so far...usually a sign..

Has, Van Gogh arrived or White Van Man or that new Dutch singing centre forward Van Morrison...These will all be loans with part time jobs to help the finances...quite easy to see whick player will be doing which job in his spare time.

The guy Van Goghs first job is to paint over the train and give us a picture the whole world will respect.

I just received the article. It is pretty big mess in terms of format as well as content, and almost untranslatable, but here is a brief overview and some translated snippets:

-----------

The whole thing seems to be a “day in the life of Poortvliet” kind of article, where they describe the various things that happen in Jan’s life at Saints. Van Der Waals describes himself as “a nobody” in the article and Ru**rt describes him only as “our adviser”.

----------

Wotte is quoted as saying that when he first came here he was shocked at the player’s salaries, and that the previous management brought the club to the edge of the abyss.

-----------

Every time the writer describes the scene at the trainings facilities he also describes Van Der Waals as sitting at the trainer’s table.

At one point Van Der Waals says: “Jan is a great trainer. He has proven at Helmond Sport what he can do with limited means. No-one here realizes that. I should know, because I have defined the strategy inside this club together with the chairman”

---------

The writer goes on to say that Van Der Waals is a great admirer of Poortvliet, but an even greater admirer of himself.

-------------

He describes a scene where Van Der Waals walks on to the training field, takes a ball and starts to kick the ball around, showing of to others, saying "look how good I am". The writer continues: “He seems to irritate a lot of people on the field, but strangely enough nobody says anything, not even Wotte”

----------

Wotte is, according to the article, referred to by everyone, including the players, as Mr. Chocolate, after a figure from a TV commercial. The slogan to go with that is “The man who likes himself so much he could eat himself”

-------------

There is also a scene described when Ru**rt walks onto the training pitch, and is willing to give a brief interview. The interview is immediately cut short however when he is asked about Van Der Waal’s role. Ru**rt says; “he is our advisor”, then turns and walks away.

--------------------

One other scene is described where the coaching staff has a meeting with Ru**rt about the situation with our forwards. Van Der Waals is in that meeting too. After the very loud “screaming match” that the meeting was, Van Der Waals tells the reporter that he told Jan not to give any more interviews!

One quote about van der Waals jumps out for me. In the article it says:

"Kim van der Waals is een grote bewonderaar van Jan Poormliet, maar nog een veel grotere van Kim van der Waals."

"KvdW is a big admirer of Jan Poortvliet but an even bigger one of KvdW" i.e. He's full of it, I don't think the author of the article was very impressed with the guy. Besides that I don't think the article is that good. It seems like it is badly researched relying fully on the Dutchies at Saints for info.

Interesting add-on to this:

My brother is a professional football scout in Holland, and I asked him about Van Der Waals. Here is his answer:

"I happened to see this article a few weeks ago in Voetbal International. The common thread throughout the article was this vague figure of Kim Van Der Waals. Bottom line is that nobody in the football world here (Holland) knows of him, what he does, or has done, or even who he is. It seems that one day he walked into SFC out of nowhere and became extremely close to your chairman. I hear he is impossible to work with and even harder to get out, due to his protection from Lowe. His added value is ZERO.

MMMM Sounds a bit like Michael Knighton

The fact that we have got rid of our best strikers?

I'm so glad people have done some digging on this, so thanks everyone.

Given some of the bits in bold, I'm not that surprised that the Club is in turmoil.

We would appear to have a DOF on board, yet no one knows who he is:rolleyes:

Obviously some of the bits are the writer's impression, but I'm sure he hasn't got an axe to grind.

There's also some quotes in that need explaining from someone.

Do we know who wrote this? Its pretty damning if true.

Waals = Lowe's rotweiler.

This is really quite scarey... would certainly explain why our team is so disjointed and misled and has such low morale.

This is very very worrying. Surely this has to be rubbish... even I dont believe we could be operating in such a way.

This is exactly what I have heard about the guy from the Dutch Saints too nobody knows anything about him, they have been trying to find out something about him since the article appeared but have come up with nothing. As you say it seems he has just walked into SFC one day and is now Ruperts right hand man so it appears.

The article provides no answers to any of that. It paints Poortvliet as a very nice guy with good intentions, but "maybe not the best manager in the Championship", and as being in a very difficult situation. Mostly the article mocks Van Der Waals and wonders about his powers inside the club.

Somebody once remarked that if Graeme Souness were a chocolate drop he'd eat himself (may have been WGS, and certainly does sound like his style!). The 'chocolate man' references here sound remarkably similar - though it's harder to see what Wotte's ever done to think so highly of himself.

Out of interest when did he arrive? Was it about the same time we started to rapidly fall into the relegation zone?
