I voted Lavia, not because ABK wasn't outstanding but because Lavia is gonna be one of those players who when he does his job well you just won't notice it. Some of his tackles, interceptions and defensive work was really very good today. Having said that, welcome to Southampton ABK!

Yeah, I’d have gone Lavia second no doubt. Just such a cool head in tight positions. There was a bit towards the end where United looked like they might break away down our left, Lavia was over so quickly to get in front of the defender and cut the threat out to get us attacking again.  Quality player.

Sorry, not Saints related but...not sure how old you are, but did you ever have the 101 great goals video? I always remember "A quality goal by a quality player" commentary..anyone remember which player scored the goal?

I did have that video! I couldn’t remember who got that one but it’s on YouTube, it was Tony Currie.

I can't get over how composed he is and how good in tight spaces. Plays some great progressive balls too.

ABK is obvious quality, but Lavia just makes the game look easy and helps our transition from the back to the front. Makes our game look much easier.

Close call ABK won my vote - Lavia will have a Stellar career.

Mrs JBS commented that the new boys in the team, look to be competing against each other in trying to do better than the other newbies.

I think this one is an outlier of the fact that ABK is new, we lost and didn’t score, and he was very much the stand out performer for both teams. 

If there’s interest in it I’ll keep doing MOTM threads through the season and keep a record of them, at the end of the season I can tally them up and we’ll see how that fares with actual player of the season votes.

We take JWP for granted now. The interest and excitement is on the new players. Doesn't mean JWP is any less influential in the play.

Other than slowing it down? It was noticeable to me how the two CB’s pretty much ignored JWP completely when playing out from the back, despite him calling for the ball. Could that have been a deliberate instruction from the coaches or something discussed by the players themselves? Again, there was a time when nearly everything went through Prowsey.

Tony Currie was such a great player, criminally wasted by English football. We had fantastic players in the 70’s but it’s perceived as a bleak period in English football, but my bins and our record in The European cups tell me otherwise. 
 

Anyway, back on subject. Che Adams was my MoTM or PoTM.

So you didn't actually vote for 'Man of the Match', you voted for 'Man who could be Man of the Match in the Future'.
