No particular dig at Wotte who obviously can't be blamed for any of the recent arse we've had to suffer and also seems to have stated quite clearly what most of JP's faults were (along with a few more implications regarding what the players might have thought). It does strike me as somewhat odd though that given the last time this club was truly united, Lowe and Wilde decided to point the blunderbus straight at it. Arizona Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 Smacks of desperation really. Begging the fans for unity whilst doing nothing themselves to bring unity to the club. I think we are all united in wanting Wotte to do well, what the club seem to be asking for is universal approval in how they are running the club, which they are never going to get. Say what you want he wasn't by any stretch of the imagination begging. He was stating the obvious, we should support the new manager and the team, wait a while to see if things improve or not, and if they don't then of course voice our displeasure. But many of us wanted a change and now weve got it, might not be what we wanted but you can be darn sure protesting ain't gonna chnage anything in the next few weeks, as like any business the board are going to want to see how thier new appointee performs and rightly so. CanadaSaint Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 If they say football/success/coaching "is all about results" one more time when it is so selectively applied I'm going to explode. STFU - or else apply it to the turds who really are at the root of the problem. If you can find them. Oh, and by the way, isn't there supposed to be some sort of symbolic cord-pulling/introduction thing at an unveiling? Out of respect for the "new person". For all Wilde and Lowe know, Wotte could still be sitting behind a curtain now. You sooooo couldn't script this sh*t.

"Head coach Mark Wotte's plea for the club to unite as one" Sounds like begging to me. Except of course Wotte is just a front for this begging and in reality it is the board who really want to unite the fanbase. I doubt the manager of any club is too bothered about a fans protest outside the club, especially as no players are being targeted.
Mole Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 Is that IYO? From a fans point of view yes, and i'm right because if we lose the home game against Swansea you'll see a protest alright.

Legod Third Coming Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 Wasn't it Ghandi who said 'be the change you want to see in the world'? Do you think there is anyone in a position of authority at SMS who knows that Ghandi was not the young waiter at Kuti's? Or has perhaps ever heard of JFK? Or been on a management training course? Broken bread with their customers? Indulged in a little humility? Listened rather than lectured perhaps... Lord give me strength. Now I know how all those Russian dissidents felt all those years. Mole Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 If we win against Swansea will I still see a protest? Probably not, but it'll change nothing and our club will continue to decline and will continue to be disunited. Until Lowe and wilde are gone for good Saints will be a broken club. TopGun Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 As Crouch, Merrington, Corbett etc have no say about what goes on I find Wotte's comments hard to understand. You have to assume Lowe and co are feeling the pressure! I like his point about the forwards though. About time too.
Gordon Mockles Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 (edited) Hilarious!! I particularly liked "I have always said, we are not after a total Dutch philosophy" - Really?! Is that from the conversations with yourself?! Doesn't tie in to the seamless link with Jan, who couldn't finish a sentence without the mention of "total football". However, my second favourite line was "I am more flexible and NOBODY HAS TOLD ME TO PLAY ONE SYSTEM"... - ERRRRRRRRR, NOBODY BLO*DY SHOULD BE TELLING YOU WHAT SYSTEM TO PLAY - That should be YOUR DECISION! YOU'RE SUPPOSEDLY THE FOOKIN' HEAD COACH!! Did that slip through the filter while Rupe's is away...again?! However, my favourite line is "We are going to play every game to get the maximum result but I will not announce my team until just before the match, because I want the other teams to think about the way we play" GROUND BREAKING!! That's where we were going wrong! WOW! I'm glad Wotte's in charge! Edited 26 January, 2009 by Gordon Mockles
gordonToo Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 It's a shame really that the decision to dispense with JP wasn't taken sooner as it is clear from the press conference that his failings were widely recognised within the club. For me, Wotte is saying all the right things and acting as if he means business so let's see what the team makes of it all tomorrow.

But then Askham, Withers, Richards, and Wilde decided a change of chairmen was needed. I see your point. We'd escaped relegation, had a manager that most of us were content to see forge ahead in the coming season (maybe even a little confidence?) but Rupert knew what was best for the club (and us). My, haven't we come a long way! I had infinitely more confidence in us last season than I do now. And that bliddy well hurts.
um pahars Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 If we're now moving away from the Total Football concept does that mean that all the hype, all the soundbites and all the promises preseason and throughout the Autumn are all redundant??? Or are these new words just a load of ******??? The only thing that matters is results on the pitch and so far we have been found very wanting, despite being told we have been playing fantastic football. I have no confidence in those running the Club at the moment and seeing as they have selected Wotte, and also because he is deeply implicated with the poor season so far, then I am afraid to say I'm remain very sceptical that he can pull this off. I hope I'm wrong, but with Poortvliet, hope was not enough.

gordonToo Posted 26 January, 2009 Share Posted 26 January, 2009 Lowe is basically asking him to give him one more chance to get it right. Well why should we? Seriously answer me that one someone. If they brought in a new manager now it would take 4 or 5 games and maybe a bad result or two for him to settle on the best team and formation. I remember it took the 5-0 drubbing at Hull to crystalise NP's thoughts as to what was needed for last season's escape. Of course this could turn out to be a Dodd & Gorman appointment but I've a feeling we're in for a pleasant surprise. We're certainly overdue a change in fortune.
