Saint Fan CaM Posted yesterday at 11:54 Posted yesterday at 11:54 This is mine… 4231 McCarthy / Baz Mads. Woods. Stephens. Welington. Charles. Romeu (c). Fellows. Azaz / Jander. Scienza. AA. Notes: * GK makes little difference - both have their up and downsides * Obvs if Stewart was fit he would be CF * A little unsure who would click best out of Azaz and Jander - tending towards Jander who has better movement. * Romeu partner / sub - should be Downes, but I don’t trust him…bad egg…could be Jander dropping back to give way for Azaz. 2
saintant Posted yesterday at 12:50 Posted yesterday at 12:50 Macca Jelert THB Wood Wellington Romeu Charles Jander Fellows Stewart Scienza 1

Agree or bring him on to replace Fellows when oppo defence is tiring. I like Jander but he needs to get back to playing on the half turn as he did when he arrived - that seems to have been replaced by back to goal simple passing now.
Saint Matty 76 Posted yesterday at 13:03 Posted yesterday at 13:03 Would be interesting to see Charles in a proper box-to-box role as he is one of our few progressive passers. Not seen that enough from Jander yet and it’s definitely not Romeu/Downes game. I feel like the three of them together would be a bit overkill and we really need to try to play Azaz into form. McCarthy Jelert - Wood - Stephens - Welington Charles - Romeu Fellows - Azaz - Scienza Stewart 6
Baird of the land Posted yesterday at 13:34 Posted yesterday at 13:34 Something like Mccarthy Jelert THB Stephens Wellington Downes(ideallyCharles) Romeu Jander Fellows Armstrong Scienza

My uninjured XI for Saturday would be: Macca Mads THB Wood Manning Downes Jander Fellows Azaz Scienza Armstrong 1
Sir Ralph Posted yesterday at 13:50 Posted yesterday at 13:50 MaCarthy Jelert Wood THB Wellington Romeu Jander (Charles when fit) Scienza Robinson Fellows Armstrong (Stewart when fit) Downs (tea boy)
Oisin Posted yesterday at 14:05 Posted yesterday at 14:05 I’m surprised so many of you are selecting THB - he’d be my 5th choice centre back. 2

He can be great at this level, he has been before. I don’t think the system helps any of them, they get in each others way and leave responsibility to each other. We should have really healthy competition for a partnership with Wood in a back 4 2

saintant Posted yesterday at 14:45 Posted yesterday at 14:45 Unsurprisingly no one has gone for 3 centre backs so far. A small sample to be sure but quite telling. 3

We should have really healthy competition for a partnership with Wood in a back 4 To me he’s currently playing like a poor man’s Jack Stephens. Lacks concentration, has a huge ego and can’t pass - two of his miss-placed passes on Wednesday were as bad as I’ve seen in professional football. And this is an England international!!! Jack Stephens gets the nod in terms of seniority and leadership (aka shouting at the ref a lot until he gets himself booked). At least Quarshie, Edwards and Wood have some potential and a likeable character IMHO. Granted, they have their weaknesses too and it’s not a great set to choose from. Finding our best 2 centre backs is as comfortable a choice as deciding between Bazunu and McCarthy for the keepers jersey. Or picking a centre forward from either Downs (who’s terrible) or someone who isn’t ever a number 9. Love our options right now … 1
sadoldgit Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) 4-4-2 for me and if fit.. Baz/McCarthy Jelert Wood Quarshie Welington Fellows Charles Romeu Scienza Armstrong Archer Give up playing pointless high crosses and either play in the strikers behind the defence or cut the ball back on the deck from the by line and get more people in the box. I thought we would see that from Still but no. As someone else posted, little difference between the keepers. Edited 7 hours ago by sadoldgit
trousers Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I initially read the title of this thread as: 'Your idle starting line-up' and wondered how the hell I was going to whittle that down to only 11 players from the squad.... 2
Willo of Whiteley Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago The funny thing is it doesn’t matter what player you pick for each position, they’re all equally as poor. The only three that I would say make every single fans starting XI is Jander, Scienza and Armstrong. Look at the goalkeepers, that could go either side, ironically, normally where the oppositions shots go. Defensively, we have five CBs, we have used all of them to varying degrees of success and failure so far this season and in so many combinations it was stun even the brainiest statisticians. Central midfield is slim pickings as a whole. And up top, or only striker that scores is Adam Armstrong, Leo Scienza has been a great addition, but I wouldn’t say Fellows has done anything of note, Fraser has gone off the boil, Robinson still a youngster etc.
