Unbeaten Run - 23/24 v 25/26

Was the beautiful run 2 years ago better, where the players trained like beasts to achieve it and in such a style, better.

Or this one where we are not afraid to go long when it suits

2 different managers, 2 different hairstyles, 2 different uses of the squad. 

Not even looked at the points when comparing but the current run is miles better, probably have more points in fewer games.

What makes this run feel better is that it's had a significant effect on our league position, whereas last time it didn't. 

As good as any unbeaten run is, I'm sure Coventry fans aren't too fussed that they won't be winning the 'unbeaten run trophy' this season...

This run has been easier than the last one.

 

We've got to the semi finals of the FA cup, but only had to face mediocre opposition thus far.

It is indeed... Although I have an excuse today... Trousers Jnr (aka short trousers) is getting married today... I've tried reassuring him that the first 37 years are the worst... 🙂

Am only counting the league games

This seasons 16 league game ppg = 2.62 v the 23/24 - 22 game one = 2.45

This year we have 13 wins and 3 draws v 16 wins and 6 draws in 23/24.

There were times we played some lovely stuff in 23/24. The 4-0 against Swansea springs to mind, especially the first half when we looked like scoring every time we went forward. 

But there was far too much of the endless passing between the CBs at other times, I agree.

This one is better because we don't have Russel Martin in charge or Gavin Bazunu in goal.

I don’t often disagree with trousers but I do on this topic.  I’m with james on this.

Even when we were winning under Martin, the football we played was almost always boring, with only a few exceptions for certain periods in the match.  Our play this year is so much more of a spectacle and is more satisfying for more of the time.

It’s the way we play, surging forward with pace, instead of passing the ball repeatedly among our defenders and goalkeeper and boring the opposition and crowd to death by thousands (exaggeration) of passes, that makes this year so much better.  Regardless of whether we gain on our competitors by progressing up the table.

All IMO, of course.

The differences in outlook between Tonda and Lego is another subject entirely but has been responsible for the difference in entertainment from my point of view.

The biggest difference is the managers reaction to their runs. Lego’s was all about how well the players were doing by following his blueprint and his “process”. Despite a couple of tactical changes, Coventry away being one, and substitutions which genuinely made a difference, yesterday being the latest, I don’t get the same vibe from Tonda. It’s not all about him, his process or his methods. God, imagine if Lego did what Tonda did yesterday and his subs got both goals, his ego would be off the scale….

The football has been much more enjoyable in 25/26's run - Martin's football was much duller, albeit with some good moments. In 23/24 it felt like we were more like flat track bullies, as we ultimately didn't really lay a glove on Ipswich or Leicester, in 25/26 we defeated Coventry. Speaking of league leaders, we beat Arsenal in 25/26 (as well as another strong PL team - Fulham) but in 23/24 we were smacked around 3-0 by "Klopp's kids". Subjectively - the timing of the run - it's more exciting to have a good run at the end of the season. Personally, the question of which run was better is rhetorical I think.

Very true. Tonda has the team at heart. Martin just had himself.

This one is better because it will be longer. We’ll win the FA Cup and get automatic promotion. No contest.
