Mahmood and Miliband just gone in there, Mahmood as CofE has been the chatter. John Healey went into No10 before them.

Ha. Possibly my most hated man in politics at present. I can't think of anything he has tried to introduce or proposed that I don't think is a dumb idea. God willing he's never in a position of influence ever again. Absolutely no idea what Burnham will be like but he's saying the right things and a more collegiate approach is to be welcomed. You always got the impression that Starmer viewed those who disagreed with him as beneath contempt.

Kyle was 1/100 this morning to be Chancellor. Odds like that suggested it was done and leaked. Not sure what's happened, of anything. I said I was expecting a few curveballs, but Healey is Chancellor is proper curvy. It'll be interesting to see how the markets react in the morning.

Spent 5 years in Gordon Brown’s Treasury though and markets seem to like him. Mahmood is the most popular member of the cabinet with the wider public (albeit not her own left wing) so staying Home Sec makes sense.

If we’re talking curvy, Ed Miliband as Foreign Sec - even if he wanted it, that’s Marilyn Monroe.

I thought he’d be Health although Cooper is a solid pair of hands there. McFadden staying at DWP makes sense as needs someone who knows the brief to make reductions.

A lot of IT jobs can be done from home. It's not difficult to monitor what someone is doing and it can be advantageous for parents who may have to pop out to pick up the kids and make the time up later (or earlier).

And I was talking specifically about WFH in the recent heatwave. It is certainly convenient to WFH if you have a medical appointment or have workmen at home etc. Personally, I much prefer to be in the office.

So yesterday's 'teaser' that the cost of living would be looked at with fully costed funding that will be announced today, is basically £1 per week saved in VAT on fuel bills.  Oh, and there is no explanation as to how this will be funded!  I think there was a reference to using the scrapped ID card folly, but there was never any funding in place for that.

I don't want to sound ungrateful, but the proposal will basically pay for two Euromillions tickets every five weeks.  Fingers crossed for a bigger windfall with those!

Convenient, yes. I'm one of those who's convinced that it suits many employees much more than it suits most employers.

Obviously very early days but binning all the bizarre self harm policies is a good start - scrapping digital ID and the jury trials removal, noises about drilling starting up again, tax breaks for hospitality. If they bin Chagos, assisted suicide, green levies and do something about migrants then they could well be reelected.
