Head coach Nicky Hayen has been sacked after just 14 games in charge at Burnley following a poor start to the season.

Hayen's final game in charge was Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City, as the hosts came back from 1-0 down to emphatically condemn the Clarets to a sixth defeat of the campaign and leave them 22nd in the Championship.

Belgian Hayen was only appointed on 10 July to succeed Scott Parker, who left at the end of April days after the Clarets' relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

Burnley announced the news with a short two-sentence statement within two hours of their defeat at the ProAmpac Stadium.

Feel sorry for Carrick, good guy, loved him as a player shouldn’t have got the job in the first place and just the latest in the long line of disasters at Old Trafford. Jason’s Wilcox isn’t the genius he made himself out to be

Excellent third goal.

Bournemouth light years ahead of Man United.

Gary Neville ripping into Bruno Fernandes (rightly so) who is sulking on the bench.

The sad thing is Michael Carrick, who’s name is being chanted by the majority of the fans, will be the one who comes out of this badly.
He’ll be relaxed by the next fall guy and the story starts again.

Absolutely right. Same as OGS. Had they not played for Utd they wouldn’t have got anywhere near the job.

Manchester United, and they’ve got a manager no supporters of other premier league clubs would want. Half the teams in the championship wouldn’t swap their manger for him, even the side he previously managed wouldn’t swap their incumbent for him (despite missing 3 opportunities for promotion). You end up with ex managers and pundits saying a manager needs time, and they do, but it needs to be the right manager that’s given it.

If I was Wilcox, I’d be looking at Conte or Simeone as they need sorting out from top to bottom. But if you’re going down the young English route, Eddie Howe is head and shoulders above Carrick…

Wilcox, who said he considers himself a manager, and with the pedigree of being a Man City Under-18s coach, gets another chance to show it, after he pushes another actual manager under the nearest bus.

Yeah and class is often misused in football but was nice touch Utd fans singing his name at the end. Screaming abuse at Fernandes as well. Think most fans are angry at plenty of others ahead of Carrick

Yeah, add Jason Wilcox to the lengthening list of those who talk a good game.

United's defending is comical.  Could easily have been 4 or 5

Shambles. But as the pundits point out playing for a global megaclub like Manchester Utd brings unimaginable pressure. Almost scar tisssue.

Luckily for them Wilcox has got the name and number on speed dial of the only bloke who can salvage their season.

Yes it was good that, so much wrong with that club. It’s incredible how far they’ve fallen since Ferguson left, especially considering we were once told that the Man United job is easy and anyone could win the league there.

I'd argue that the rot set in during the Ferguson era. I think it was his sheer will power and determination to get the best out of his players that often made a difference.

Sure, the team had windows where several players arrived  every now and again. And a lot of windows had at least one big name arrived.

But along with that were the veteran, stop gap strikers there was getting Scholes to come out of retirement. Then there were punts in the market, that a powerhouse not burdened by all that debt and outgoing interest payments would not have had to make.

I recall one arrival of several players as something of an overdue refresh.

Yes, good article on the BBC website asking if Man U is unmanageable. Carrick would only have worked if the players all gave 100% all the time and that didn't seem to happen.

That said, I always remember Dennis Law's backheel to relegate Man Utd last time, which for me was the most satisfying relegation ever and I'd like to see them go down again. Horrid club.

Sadly, Spurs have picked up wins. Could have been 3 of the Big 6 getting relegated.

You’re probably right. The team Moyes inherited was poor by their standards, the days of them signing top quality players long gone.

Yes, remember that well, especially the look on Law’s face. Then there was the subsequent pitch invasion.

Only problem was Man Utd came down to tare up the Second Division (especially by their fans at the time).

Have always hoped Spurs or Everton would come down in recent years to match that, but hasn’t happened.

I actually don’t mind them, I know I’m in the minority but say what you like about Fergusons teams they were entertaining, had some great players and characters over the years, produced some exceptional talent and whatever anyone says Ferguson transformed them from top to bottom. some of their fans might have been arrogant but it was based on success rather than a Liverpools victim/delusion or massive foreign investment into clubs like Chelsea and a Man City. Plus their away support was always very good. And the whole Munich story adds a bit of romance and tragedy to the story. Of course I always wanted to beat them but couldn’t help admire them as a club in many ways

I can see where you're coming from. When I was at school in the '60s & '70s, kids either 'supported' their local team (ie Saints) or it seemed one of Man U or Liverpool - even kids were discerning enough not to support Leeds! I didn't mind the teams that were a bit like us eg. Coventry, Norwich, Ipswich.

But nowadays, I can't see a team like Man U going down. The press like to raise our hopes with saying how teams like Spurs are having a bad start but anyone can see they're miles better than the Sunderlands, Hulls and Coventrys of this world.

Interesting how the fans cheered Carrick off the pitch today then booed the players.
