Technically true and it’s never going to happen but surely if you cheat financial rules in previous seasons you still benefit from it for a number of reasons for years to come? If City don’t win their appeal I’m curious to see just how hard they get hit.

I am being flippant, (which I am sure you knew), but is there a right-hand marker for any remuneration/remedies to their shortcomings?

Their charges go up to 2023 (in some cases), does that mean they can never ever get the suggested "Asterix" next to their 2024 premier league title?

Agreed. These charges should be ignored given the enjoyment we’ve all got from seeing them bring such amazing players to the premier league, the worlds greatest manager and entertaining us all with amazing football. Football is an entertainment industry and no one can argue they haven’t done that. So they broke a few rules? Small price to pay for what they’re done for the premier league brand globally and that’s all that matters

What should happen is that they get a Rangers style punishment and sent down to League 2. Some of the charges are awful, it’s way beyond overspending, it’s a huge deception, corruption and then cover up of finances from Man City.

What will actually likely happen will be a massive dilution and Everton’s punishment will stay as being more severe. Much like Chelsea just got a slap on the wrist, but on a much bigger scale.

So its just the Everton and Derby cases that are comparable?

Sadly you’re probably right. I know it’s a completely different offence but it will really show how serious they are about apply the rules consistently to the big and the lesser clubs. I fully expect them to get a relatively light punishment, probably a large fine which will be a drop in the ocean to their owners and a points deduction which might mean it’s tough for them to qualify for the champions league this season.

What needs to happen is the FA dish out a punishment so severe to Eckert and Southampton such that nobody notices them letting Man City off with a slapped wrist.
