No idea to what extent that’s true and I’m sure it’s too generic to explain everything but it does raise an interesting point. You see plenty of retired footballers fall into various addictions, trying to replicate the thrill of professional football in front of a big crowd. I remember Merse on Soccer Saturday saying, “there’s no feeling in the world like scoring a goal, and I’ve tried everything.” Mick Hucknall was famously a ‘sex addict’. He claimed he was that way because he was trying to fill the void left by a lack of love from his mother, which is kind of a sad and messed up way for a guy to feel. This is very interesting, and something that I can personally relate to. When I was 6 years old, my dad who worked in shipping went off go sea one day and never came home. Took my mum 7 years to find out he had decided he couldn't cope with family life and had fucked off to live in Spain. I didn't see him face to face again until I was 24. As a teenager in the 90s, I got massively into the rave scene. I liked nothing more at weekends than to go out to a club (the Rhino was a favourite haunt) and get off my face on speed, pills, acid... whatever. It was my way of escaping my 'normal' life for a few hours. I didn't realise it at the time, of course, but looking back now it's pretty obvious I did that to fill the void left by my absent dad. I spent years and years trying to find ways to replicate the highs I experienced during those times, until finally realising I was never going to achieve that and that I had to find other things in my life to derive joy from. I've never scored a goal in front of 40,000 fans, obviously, but I can totally relate to Merse on this. If you have an addictive personality then trying to find ways to satisfy that craving can become all pervasive in your mind and seriously impact on your day to day life if you don't have the ability to control it. As much as I dislike Russell Brand, if he had/has a genuine sex addiction then I do have a small degree of sympathy because it would have a big detrimental effect on his ability to make rational choices. It's just a shame that his particular addiction has direct consequences on other people who then become victims of his mental health problems. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of criminal cases etc... EDIT: It's now November 2026 and he's just been found guilty on multiple counts. No sympathy whatsoever. Fuck him. As for Brand, he may be an addict but the general public put him into a position where he could take advantage ofhis 'addiction'. My god our society laps up people like him and they are then put into positions where their weirdness is used in a negative terrible way. Im sure I wasnt the only who knew he was a wrongun and even as a kid knew that Savill was as well. We just seem to need this type of person coming on the TV set everyday.
sadoldgit Posted 5 April, 2025 Posted 5 April, 2025 I read an interesting article about this case this morning. Narcissists have a very large but fragile ego and use it as a support system. They need to feel special and superior and cannot handle rejection as it plays into their deep seated feelings of inadequacy. Brand is a self confessed narcissist. He says that all of his sexual contacts have been consensual. They cannot handle rejection which means that they might not be able to take “no” as an answer, or maybe the “no” just doesn’t compute. That is not to say that every narcissist is a rapist or that Brand is guilty but then neither does the fact that he lived up to a rock star image and,no doubt, had many women throwing themselves at him, mean that he still didn’t take “no” as an answer from some of them. Not seen anything of him for a while, but he seems to be playing the good God fearing Christian card according to the clips they played on the news last night. Strange bloke. 3

The Kraken Posted 5 April, 2025 Posted 5 April, 2025 I can only think that post is an intentional self parody. Otherwise it shows a staggering lack of self awareness. 1
whelk Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Another celeb going down. Remember seeing the text messages of him to a victim on that tv expose so clearly guilty as sin. couldn't find the previous thread as sure he’s been discussed before 1
