From Gaffa.....

His father just phoned he opened his eyes at 3.35 and tried pulling the tubes out. they asked him to move his toes and foot and he did. so thats all positive.

I appreciate the concern of you and some of the others that have been in touch. And also the Chapel Arms they have been fantastic I dont read other boards as I did on Sunday and couldnt believe some of the comments but thats life.

Latest update on the Welsh lad

Just had great news. They have removed him from High Dependency and from intensive care and he is now on a general ward. All looking good ,he knows those around him and is speaking although slightly slurred.

I have had the worse 5 days of my life and its the best I culd have hoped for.

Thanks for your support it has been greatly appreciated, and hopefully our chats from here on will be about the football and friendships.

Great news!

Some of the comments may have been harsh but I don't believe that the lad was as innocent as being portrayed. Nor probably as bad either.

That is probably a fair summary.

Above all though I'm pleased that he is making a recovery.

Glad to see that it looks like reaching a conclusion that we all hoped for - good luck to the lad, personally I would like to see him at SMS next year (to watch the football) - would go a long way to building bridges with apposing fans. Good luck to him though.

Five days on and he is still p1ssed  Seriously here's to a speedy recovery and hopefully next time on his football travels he will be more careful when on "foreign" soil.

As much as I hope this guy recovers, it will only be about 'friendships and football' untill Cardiff come back down here next year and try it on, AGAIN, or seek out Saints fans with scaffold poles around Cardiff city centre AGAIN...

Along with Stu (but he was outrageous in what he said) I was quoted on the Cardiff forum - but they edited my post! It looked quite bad after editting - but I would like to say no one in this world deserves to be hospitalised like that.

I liked a few beers before a game but never went too far so I was unable to see impending dangers.

Gaffa must be a top bloke - and I know not all football fans are looking for it. Unfotunately everyone gets tarred with the same brush. I believe our away support are no angels - hence the heavy policing. But honestly why does it come to this - and not attacked by rival fans!

Wouldn't wish it on anyone - so get well soon mate, and keep the focus on fighting well and truly for a cause like Afghanistan when it really could be life or death.
