.comsaint Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Southampton head coach Mark Wotte had special praise for the scorer of his side’s first two goals: "Jason Euell has done fantastically for us tonight. I am pleased with him. "When I started this job I gave him three times a substitute role, and every time he had a good impact - so I put him in the first XI. "His contract is expiring, so he has personal reasons to play well. He feels confident, like most of the players, and he has done brilliantly. "It was, for me, very important that everyone recognised the important situation we are in. "We have five games in 12 or 13 days. We have to be mentally very strong and also physically. "Two home games don't make us survive in the Championship - neither does this victory. We are still in trouble. We have to be serious - because it's a serious situation." Wotte felt his side's two disallowed goals should have counted: "We scored five goals tonight. I think the referee saw something that I did not see." http://www.clubfanzine.com/ipswich_town/v2.showNews.php?id=18385
Saint Bones Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Good to see he isn't goign overboard with what have been 3 very good results. Teams around us seem up for the challenge as well, So keep the boys firing Mr Wotte.

Micky Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Calls it just about right for me. We are doing well, but there is a lot of work still to do to get us out of this mess. Hopefully neither he, or the players, will be taking thier foot off the gas.
brightspark Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 It is so vital that we carry on getting win after win after win. And Wotte has verbally impressed me so far so no doubt he will be hammering this into the players minds. We go to Birmingham on Saturday with a great chance of a win. If we play like we can we can do it, and how great would it be to be out of the bottom 3! My fear is we might stop picking up the wins when we get out of the bottom 3. It was something that happened to teams at the end of last season if you remember, because around now it becomes partially a mental game.

INFLUENCED.COM Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Im getting more and more impressed with Wotte in relation to his public relations. What about in relation to the relations that are not public relations, are you a relation ? A calm statement after a good run of results prevents all from getting too carried away, Euell playing for a contract is not something new to us , although could be considered mercenary, if it contributes to our survival then long may his and our form continue. wild-saint Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 So with 11 games remaining we can get a maximum of 70 points. Is that generally a big enough total to gain 6th spot? Longshot maybe but who knows?
Foxstone Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 I agree. If he'd just lose that slight edge or arrogance I could almost like him! I like that though ! It indicates to me that he is quietly confident and it also commands some respect with his charges too I suspect.

Badger Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 I agree. If he'd just lose that slight edge of arrogance I could almost like him! Didn't do Brian Clough or Mourinho any harm did it ? I think we want/need a manager to get wins, and points not win a popularity contest. Personally I feel a lot of antipathy towards Wotte will remain as he is seen as 'soiled' by association with Lowe. I think most Saints fans are able to dis-associate the two, they did with Strachan once he started to succeed after early fears.

I don't mind a little arrogance as long as it's aimed in the right direction. His earlier 'anti-fan' comments did him no favours in my eyes. It showed a complete lack of understanding on his behalf at the high level of frustration amongst supporters. At this moment in time he is cementing a good team and seemingly installing some pride and spirit in the camp and that is wholly positive!
bungle Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 His 'anti-fan' comments were his best comments so far. The truth hurt some people, and lo and behold the fans in the stadium have got behind the team as he hoped they would.

The truth hurt some people, and lo and behold the fans in the stadium have got behind the team as he hoped they would. I still disagree with his comments, completely. Saying that those who were on the march weren't true fans was ridiculous - i'm glad that so far however he's kept his mouth shut.

I think you wouldn't be surprised by how many people supported it either! And to be fair, it was happening before the game and the support for the players in the ground during the game remained positive.

The truth hurt some people, and lo and behold the fans in the stadium have got behind the team as he hoped they would. Sorry thats complete horse poo! There were only 2 games that fans turned and then only because the team appeared to have given up. Forest and Doncaster in every other game the support has been pretty good considering the dross that was served up.
chi saint Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 I agree. If he'd just lose that slight edge of arrogance I could almost like him! Whilst I know what you mean, arrogance is the key in my view to his success so far. He clearly is his own man, in terms of the team, the fans and I suspect most importantly Rupes. So would we rather have someone who's grateful to be working for RL or someone who is arrogant and believes in himself and who I suspect is prepared to stand up to others with less knowledge...Rupes! So for me he can be as arrogant as he wants, as long as he's delivering the goods.

Wotte has taken three steps towards that accolade. If he digs us out of the mess we were in ( perhaps we are still a bit in it.) then he will deserve much respect.
