Wes Tender Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 What are the club offering us in return? Do they realise that there is some benefit to having a full stadium? I have watched so much sh*t this season at home, that I really don't know if I can be arsed to go, as I am currently still in boycott mode. I went with my son to the last home match, the dismal 0-0 draw against QPR, paying £48 for the privilege and came away thinking what a waste of money it had been. I would hate to think that Lowe and the Quisling anticipated that they could just rely on the supine loyalty of the fans to rally round and pay full price for this sub-standard fare. How about them not taking us for granted and making some sort of offer to us as an incentive?
Legod Third Coming Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 I have two free tickets to the Grand National, the prospect of some shapely company among the scouse birds, free booze and the potential to win a sackful of cash, or Charlton... Wes Tender Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Isn't the Charlton match £15 each? Is it? I can't find anything about it on the club website at all. They had reduced prices for the QPR match, but then only for ST holders buying extra tickets. If they want the attendance of fans who are not ST holders to important games like the Charlton one, then perhaps they need to make some attractive offers to us. As I say, much as I love the Saints, I really can't be much inspired to cough up £48 for me and my son to watch the dross that has been served up to us this season at home, at the same time contributing to the prolonged stay of Lowe and the Quisling. That was the game that I still had to cough up £48 for but still didn't see a win and came away thinking what a load of crap it was. I was away last weekend for the QPR match but seemingly didn't miss much according to the reports on here. I might be pursuaded to go to the Charlton match if I can get it at a saving of £18 for us. But it doesn't appear to be well publicised, does it? Even now, if you go onto the OS there is no mention of it except in that archive link. True but I had it noted down anyway, cheapskate that I am.The date suits me well and £15 for the ticket sealed the deal. I did notice on Charlton's site that they're charging full price, must be one of those 'home fans only' offers that you're allowed a few times a season. I was talking to some mates today, they were saying that the charlton match was a huge game and asked what i thought the attendance might be, I said I thought about 25,000 due to cheap tickets and they didnt have a clue about the prices. I told them £15 adult, £5 consessions and they seemed very interested. Like you say, the only way you can find those prices on the OS is by searching through the nws archive, and reading through an article called 'season ticket prices for next season', which i doubt many people, particularly non season ticket holders will bother looking at

The problem is our expectations, we expect tobe entertained for that sort of cash level, yet how often have we been truely entertained on average per season, especially given we spent many season in the lower reaches of the prem? Football is generally over priced but supply and demand for premiership football means high prices, and that filters down given the players pay expectations... Where will it lead to? Sadly roll forward 20 years and I think we will have a top divison of 16 professional clubs (if not a Euro super league) and the rest will be amateur as its wont be sustainable.... The problem is our expectations, we expect tobe entertained for that sort of cash level, yet how often have we been truely entertained on average per season, especially given we spent many season in the lower reaches of the prem? This has got to be one of your weaker responses in a debate, Frank. So when we were in the Premiership watching the likes of Bolton, it cost the same as it does now to watch the likes of Blackpool, Swansea, Plymouth, Doncaster, etc, the difference being that although you might have considered it a chore watching a boring draw against Bolton one week, the next week you would be watching ManUre, Liverpool, Chelski, Arsenal, etc. for a similar amount. And even when we were in the lower reaches of the Premiership, which was more often than not, we still gained entertainment at a much higher level than this, even at the same time as we were being soundly beaten, as we watched World stars like Viera, Cantona, Beckham and Bergkamp. From time to time, we would beat teams containing such stars, such as the 6-3 thrashing of United, or the 4-0 against Middlesbrough with Juninho, Ravenelli and Emmerson playing and victory would be so much sweeter. You bet we expect to be entertained for our money! If we are paying the same as we were in the Premiership and watching the youth team playing Doncaster, then it might just be justified if we were playing scintillating football and hammering teams like that every week. But of course, we are not.
