New Away Fans Guide

Hello,

I hope Bojio will let me keep this on here, as it is not spam, it's a Saints fan looking for help for other Saints fans!

After hours of trawling through the net prior to travelling away, I found the sites on offer crap, not everyone wants to know how much legroom there is or how much a burger costs, so I have decided to set up my own review site....

It is launching 1st August after years of being trying to bother my arse to get it done. It will have in depth reviews of all 92 league grounds, galleries, good beer guides etc... basically it will focus more on people who make away days a day or weekend out.

It will also be alot less serious and alot more 'fun' than some of the other football ground sites.

Anyway, enough of that crap, what I am on here for is that I could really do with some help, there are 92 grounds to review, if anyone wants to write a reveiw then I would be more than happy to include it within the website.

Also, any pictures you have of your away trips, whether it be on the train, in the pub, in the stadium, or anywhere else, please send them in to be used in the galleries.

Lastly, if you can't be arsed to help, then your feedback on what you would find useful within a football ground guide would be most appreciated!

Many Thanks

Got a few pics from Charlton & Watford this season if you want em. I can try doing a review too although i have to say many of my away trips are a blurr!!

Great idea btw, look forward to using the site.

It is more focused on people who the awayday is a blur, it will tell you where the pubs are, where the strip bars are, what the nightlife is like, where to get a decent curry etc... whereas other such as footballgroundguide are more focused towards the people who either drive to away games or get the Travel Club

I will put the email on as soon as I get clearance from His Bajesty!

Cracking idea mate. The guide would be very helpful for me as i like to stay up a night and have a good old **** up after the game. Perhaps a section on hotels could be included? Or more specifically, cheap hotels as close to the town centre and ground as possible...?

Curry & kebab houses would be good as would places to find a good fry up in the morning. I can personally reccomend a farmhouse breakfast at the wetherspoons in Leicester Sq, London, the best breakfast i've had in a spoons' by miles, lovely it was & nicely washed down by a few pints of larger!

Fry up info a must - anywhere to avoid a Wethies breakfast (not that they're awful, just that they're not good!).

I can recommend the Halliday Tearooms on Bedford Place in Soton, and also the one just outside Manchester Piccadilly station on the RHS - about 10 shops down. Will have to rack my brains for more.

Also, plenty of pubs that do curry near West Brom. The Vine is well known, but slightly further away is the Desi Junction which does awesome food.

Info such as rail fares would be useful too, there are some very good deals to be had when travelling in groups of 3/4 & more. I'd be happy to look up this info for you.

Indeed for instance when travelling by train to Exeter it's cheaper to get Group of Four to Axminster then Group of 4 from Axminster to Exeter than a straight forward Group of 4 form Southampton to Exeter.

Cheers for that, didn't know that myself, others probably know a lot more on where to get good deals. I would also reccomend buying a rail card if you travel to away games regularly. I was looking at fares for a group of 3 travelling the other day, all 3 with rail cards & returns to Brighton, Yeovil, Bristol...etc were all coming up as less than 10 quid each.

For Brighton if you sign into Southern Trains website they do deal where 4 adults can travel anywhere in the region covered by their trains for £20 which maeks return to Brighton £5 each.

I find this site pretty good, although I agree too much talk about burgers/pies etc, heard enough of that from rupes!...:

http://www.footballgroundguide.com/

I find the site a bit dated, yet it covers a number of bases, perhaps theres an opportunity to provide an enhanced, more extensive service?

all the best!

That's what I am looking at, personally I don't give a toss about the pretty pictures of the empty grounds, how much leg room I can expect, how much the burgers and pies are etc...

All I want to know is what train do I get off at, what pubs do I drink in, what nightclubs and hotels are there in the area if I want to stay, and where can I get a decent fry-up before I drive/get the train home the morning after.

The main section on each clubs page takes in:

1) Transport - Trains, Buses and Taxi Contacts

2) Pubs - Best away friendly pubs in area and 'out of town' , plus real ale pubs.

3) Nightlife - Both in town and further afield.

4) Food - Currys, Kebabs and Greasy Spoons

5) Hotels / B&B's - Complete with online booking system, based on distance to stadium.

6) Map

7) Hot Tips - Any other points of interest, local attractions, ideas etc or experiences.

8) Reviews - From travelling fans.

There is also a gallery, so when people come home from a game, they can post their pictures, this also helps people guage a real time image of what they can expect.

Apart from a quick summary, I don't think most people care about leg room or view or if they serve a Balti Pie. I may be wrong though.

Hope you have some decent turf on the pitch the next time we come up. Last time they mite as well have been playing on a plowed field.

Think we will see quite a lot of pitches like that next season not to mention even crapper ref's

Talking about Bristol Rovers and Breakfast.... Best breakfast before an away match ever... was at Bristol Rovers away in that effing awful cup game last year. "Mrs B's" or something like that.

And trains.... we bought a group save to Swansea but split the ticket into 3 legs... without changing trains....

Reading to Swindon

Swindon to Cardiff

Cardiff to Swansea.

We stayed on the same train and saved loads of dosh!

Best 2 Away pubs...

Brunswick at Derby

Kelham Island Tavern at Sheffield

Away-days are what Saturdays are all about!!

Pity we won't be playing Derby next season as The Brunswick is right up there in the top away pub line up, especially if you are into Real Ale. I think they had 14 different ales last time (several brewed in the pub), not to mention their own micro brewery lagers as well. :smt030:drinkers:. Very convenient if you travel by train as it is enroute from station to ground (and back ;)) if you are able to walk/stagger.

Go easy on The Black Sabbath at 6.8% though!! If you can't make up your mind which beer you want, ask for a sample, reckon I had nearly a pint in freebies that way ;). Mop it up with some great food in the upstairs bar. Very friendly staff, and locals too. Really quirky design, tiny front entrance on the end of a terrace but is shaped like a slice of pie and widens out as you go further in and has loads of little snug bars. Having said that though, it isn't a huge pub so if you're not really into good beer stay away (so that the rest of us can get in :p)

Stu your pub ratings should also have a star rating for the totty/barmaids/dancers in places visited. Fitties or fatties, spitters or swallowers, screamers or smilers etc :p .

Seeing as I can't start threads...

......are there any grounds with terracing in League One? If so, which? Or am I being hopelessly optimistic?

Yeovil and Bristol Rovers, off the top of my head.

I used to work here,it will be ideal for the Brentford game.

Still stay there quite often as i get good rates on the rooms as i get on well with the new owners and they owe me plenty of favours

Easy to get to the ground up the road,10 mins from Osterley tube on the Piccadilly line staight into the centre of London.

Also they have turned one of the restaurants into a chuffing good curry house.

Got a good pub attached which is a bonus, should be i designed it;)

So does that mean we can take our seats out now? ;-)

I think that's a good idea. Take out a few blocks worth of seating somewhere like the Itchen North Corner (seeing as it's always closed) and replace it with terracing. It'll be sure to attract a bit of much needed extra revenue every week.

Why do you guys always want to turn the clock back to the bad old days ?

You see, we had 14 hole DM'S and jeans that only went to the top of the boot,It was handy because when the guy behind you had a **** it would all go down the back of your boots and you could clean them on the opposite seat by putting your feet up on the train on the way home.

Now think what a mess you would get into with your pink socks and plimsoles.

Your mum would cuff you when you got home and needed your chino's washed.

Come and share my blanket in the Kingsland like a good boy,and no thats not a Tartan dildo,it's my thermos of Bovril..

Really? People used to just get their c*cks out and have a w*nk? That is bizarre! I know peeople say football is all about male bonding, but I had never heard of this kind of accepted mass w*nking.

Stu. Are you going to go about arranging specific away pubs that a load of us can attend next season. I know a lot of other clubs do it. We often seem to be scattered all over which ever town we go to.

The site I have, http://www.away supporters.co.uk is a national football ground guide, so not specific to Southampton, of course it will cover all 92 teams in the league, so you could pick your pub and post it on here.

Lovely forum to talk about terrace culture and firms

As I said, bit of everything! The forum is not for that to be fair, but there is going to be elements of links to 'Casuals' sites, history and other aspects of Terrace Culture.

Like it or not, it's a big part of footballs history, and although it won't be glorifed, it will be covered, as well as many other subjects not covered on your traditional 'ground guides' .

One thing that I have completed last night ( but won't be added until 1st August ) is a comprehensive lap-dancing bar guide. I really do think of everything!
