Master Bates Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 A couple of days ago one of the texts received mentioned Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment. I done a search on the forum and found they were spoken about on 8th May, anyways, this was found: The Globe and Mail May 13, 2009 Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. has been centred out as the worst owner in the NHL, according to a feature on SI.com, the website of Sports Illustrated magazine. In a story that identified the five best and five worst owners in each of the four major team sports, the site wrote: "How can the $1.75-billion owners of the most valuable franchise in hockey [the Toronto Maple Leafs] continue to so mismanage one of the NHL's most storied teams?"...................... dubai_phil Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Thank you so his involvement is positive I'm pretty sure he'd say he would rather have not been involved, but as Paul Allen is not around, somebody had to help to get a team together to build a plan for a sustainable future and a push back up the Leagues. The best comment last week post match was along the lines of "well nobody else seems to be trying, what happens if nobody does come in with a bid?". After that I'm afraid the 5th pint of Guinness took hold and I'm afraid things are a little hazy.

Gorgiesaint Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Have Pinnacle bid yet? Actually not sure!! So 2 bids may have been the wrong thing to say so apologies - but Fry is still talking to that group (at least if you believe the Echo this morning). IMO there is no point in worrying about no announcements just yet (& yes I am as concerned about it as you hence why we're both on ths forum at stupid o'clock in the morning!) until the payroll run is due which I believe is the 20th or 21st. If we get to then with no announcement then I will be really worried.

To assume makes an ass out of u and me as they say. What is important is that Fry ACCEPTS a bid that saves the club. to do that both parties need to be talking to him. miserableoldgit Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 I just can't see it, I am worrying about Fry's ability to seal a deal here!! Why are the talks breaking down???? The fact is that we don`t know if talks have broken down or not. The only "information" that any of us have is what is put forward on this forum. We are so desperate for news that we all (myself included) cling to any old tat that appears here. There is no problem with that - it meets some sort of need in us and in a perverse way is a bit of fun. We have to assume that Fry is good at his job and that he knows what he is doing. Lack of news could be looked at from both angles. It could be that things are going "tits up" or it could mean that Fry is playing one off against the other to get the best deal. The bottom line is that none of us actually KNOW what is going on (even those with the the most extreme opinions) so we need to let Fry do his job. Nothing that we do can change that. We need to be even more patient.

doggface Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 DP, yes I am making assumptions on the so called mj bid, this is based on his past history. Im not focusing to much on what the echo is reporting because my news came very late last night. As I said Pinnacle fronted bid should be announced as prefered bidders this afternoon. Will supply initial funds this morning to keep club afloat until next stage dd is completed. I am very exicited by what I have heard & trust implicitly - I just hope it comes to fruition today which at this moment I have no reason to think it won't. obviously situation is fluid but I would be suprised if things have changed in the last 7 hours. If they can hit what sometimes on here seems to be a moving target then thank God for that. But remember that many salesmen are forced at some point in their careers to read Sun Tzu's the Art of War, and although I and many others doubt the ability of you know who to read, he isn't the brains behind the bid. I'm sure that book also has a prominent position in Fry's briefcase which is why it takes so long

He is a buffoon and I just hope any bid he is involved in doesn't involve him being anywhere near St Marys in any executive or administrative role. I think that this is a bit short-sighted. If (and it maybe a big if) the "MJ Bid" is accepted by Fry, then you have to assume it is the right bid. MJ may not have very good track record, but I assume that he is not putting any money in himself, and that he is just acting as an agent for those that are. The proof of any pudding is in the eating as they say and I think that Fry is probably good enough at his job to sort the wheat from the chaff (too many proverbs/metaphors - sorry) and accept the best bid. Let`s be honest, how many people thought that WGS was a good appointment when first announced? Now he is looked upon as a Demi-God! Let`s not do too much pre-judging. egreog Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Still plenty time before the 21st D day to secure a buyer...........frankly the way it is sounding now, anyone would be welcome if it means keeping the thing afloat...........however the creditors may still find the sums offered unacceptable......right down to the wire I would think before there is either a positive outcome or end of the club

Badger Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Could we do a Coventry & not hear any news till 3 minutes before our exsistance ceases? Didn't realise it was that close to the wire. Middlesboro' were 30 minutes away from closure. Lets hope we don't go for breaking the record;the margin for error is slim and we'd inevitably balls it up. Weston Saint Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 There are a lot of assumptions on here. There is the assumption that because Jackson failed before he will fail again but he is only a small bit player overall. He won't mind me saying he is not the brains behind the operation. He is a facilitator/negotiator. Decisions are made by others. He was often on here giving it large. Not this time though. It is possible to learn from past mistakes. Jackson has certainly done that as far as I can tell. There is an assumption that if the bid is successful he will play a big role in the future of SFC. That is not my understanding. Whatever the outcome of their groups bid, whatever the outcome of the "Pinnacle" involvement or any other last minute interest all we want, and I include Green, Jackson, Le Tissier and Lynam in that, is the football club to have a future. Without all their interest and hard work it is unlikely we would still be debating a hope of a future. Let's not criticise any of their efforts. They are all giving up masses of time to achieve a positive end. Can any of the critics on here say the same?
