Inspiration in bad times

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Make no mistake, we stand on the threshold of a new era.

I myself cannot wait to let bygones be bygones and welcome in a new dawn of unity at the club, and as Al Pacino said in his speech in 'Any Given Sunday' (I refer everyone to watch this speech btw)

"either we heal, now, as a team... or we will die... as individuals"

Hair-raising stuff... I guess my point is, pretty much is echoed in the sentiments of many of StuRomseySaint's thread. We've all had a gutful... I know I have... all the ****ing and moaning and rounding upon our own supporters. I don't want to preach to any of you as I myself can no longer go to games... I am essentially a 'fan' but not a 'supporter' but irrespective of my personal feuds, battles and previously held beliefs, there is nothing more I want than unwavering unity. The great thing about this whole sorry mess is that we will soon have the opportunity, the chance, to grasp this again.

We will soon have the opportunity to move on and eventually, Southampton FC will be able to build a solid base for the future. It's not going to be easy but the next group of players at this club I hope will wear the shirt with immense pride. It is up to us to make sure they know exactly how we feel and to give them our unconditional backing. The feeling will transfer to them and is reciprocal - once they figure our love, it will be given back to us genuinely... I honestly believe that. There are some fantastic examples around the world of players-fans relationships, we just have to take the initiative.

It would be fantastic to make SMS more intimidating, yet this can only truly be done with the fans vociferous backing. Soon, we'll be given the chance to regroup as one and move forward as one. The diversity of opinion that split us all for so long will vanish and with that, hope will be ushered into its place.

Forza Saints!

Me, you - agreeing? Parallel world!?

Ha, no, seriously... there is nothing more than I would want than the above... unity will be the key... it will galvanise not only the club and fans, but the city and it's people... as I said on the other thread, everything will seem so much prettier, tastier, happier.

For what its worth i am fed up with going around in circles about the good/bad things Lowe/Wilde/Crouch have done.

I will be very happy if we can all get behind a new improved, born again Saints team and hopefully us fans can do our bit to get us out of League One.

After all we are all Saints fans.

I know we dont agree on much Crab Lungs, but on the old Saints forum i remember saying if we ever met, then i would gladly buy you a beer.

That offer still stands.

(Just dont mention Rupert).

Haha... mate, the feeling is mutual, as is the offer, although I am ever so slightly effeminate so mine would be a vodka coke if possible? :-)

I messaged someone who shared my viewpoint the other day... I was damning about my fellow fans, as I have been this past couple of months. Let's just say, reading this forum thoroughly this evening I really did feel a sense of belonging again. Yes, there are debates, arguments and disagreements but boiling beneath it all is a simmering hope that everything will be OK again.

I honestly, sincerely believe we will all get the opportunity to pull in the same direction again. I'm tired of bickering, I have recently resulted to petty insults and snide remarks. I know I shouldn't have but I did. Then, it finally dawned upon me - I am really, really, not engaging myself with my fellow 'brothers'. I have got so embroiled in hatred and negativity and arguments that I seldom spoke of football anymore. That is when I knew that it had gone too far.

I hope for the others like me, no matter what part of the divide they currently sit, also experience this. It was tantamount to englightenment, not so much in a spiritual sense but more of a, well... a realisation.

We've gone on for so long now with **** up after mistake after **** up and rightly, or wrongly, as fans, we've all had our say and in some cases, fought amongst ourselves because of this. We have been through the wringer twice and once more and we've had to stomach some of the most unfortunate set of circumstances which could ever befall a loyal fanbase.

Soon, we will have a chance of unity again. I hope to never have to mention any of the old guard's names again. I look forward to debating tactics, opposition, transfers and and team itself... the things I have overlooked so often in recent months. The only things us fans should have to worry about.

I hope we get two strong leaders, a chairman with vision and a plan to compliment a manager whose charisma can involve and instil a 'us against the world' mentality. God knows, we're going to need it next year and to overcome our penalty we need to come out fighting from the first whistle. If SFC give us something to be proud of again the fans will reciprocate.

Fingers crossed all intentions are sincere and we can all once again, sleep easy about the future of Saints.

If and when I'm back in the UK next season, I will happily share a drink with you and anyone else I have wrongly rounded upon in recent months. Hell, I might even dip into my pocket and buy them all! Let's see what the fixture list throws up and hopefully we can make that a date.

CRAB LUNGS !

What a very pleasant read...I can hardly believe it's you.

Gone ..is all that criticism and sarcasm (sorry-dry humour), a new revelation and the spirit of the real fan.

There needs to be many more like you " signing the pledge."

..as someone said in an old movie once:

" let's hope he doesn't sober up tomorrow and revert to his old self."

Nice post CL.......COYR !!!!!

I couldn't agree more with CL's sentiments. With luck, this chapter of the club's history is now closed, all of the divisive elements have lost their shareholdings and hopefully will not return. Therefore, unless they are replaced with another bunch of egotists, we can unite and provide the boost of positivity and optimism that will propel us upwards from our lowest ebb in decades.

I don't care if the new people need to make hard decisions, provided that they explain why those decisions need to be made, but otherwise most will be quite happy that they can keep a low profile and just get on with it. I understand that they are in it to make a profit, but I hope that it is on the basis that if the club becomes profitable, it will be on the back of our success. Provided that they treat us with the respect and humility that we deserve as probably their main source of revenue until we get back to the top division, they will find that we will continue to feel total commitment to the cause in return.

If we can assemble a team of players and a manager who can instill pride and a never say die attitude into the team, then at this level it will be more important than skill and quality. If we are lucky, however, we might be able either to keep some of our youngsters who have those qualities, or metaphorically entice one or two experienced violinists at the end of their careers to accompany the road sweepers who more usually play in the third division.

Excellent, in the mean time shall we organise a legends match to raise funds and promote unity? It won't only need hope to be ushered into it's place.

LOL... I am looking forward to celebrating the new owners and hopefully saluting the new manager at that game. Methinks it has potential to be relaunched as the start of the rebuild. If so .... frankly I'm looking forward to it and will go! Not sure if Andover have a game on that day tho 19?

good call mate...agree with you on that...am stuck up north with work and hardly ever get to see the boys apart from occasional midweek away matches up here....the only plus of next season is that there are more away matches in the northwest so will get to see the boys more often....as a fan base, we've had far more than our fair share of **** times in the last 5 years...here's hoping to a brighter future and a unified family club once again....

We will be united now. One leader, one vision, a new manager, new players and the same old fans. Bring it on. :)

Its a nice thought, but a consortium may not be one leader, although hopefully they will have one vision, but will a new manager and new players be any better than what they replace? Mike Ashley has spent £250m of his own money at Newcastle and they are closer to the drop this afternoon than they were this morning. There are no guarantees in this game, except one - the fans will ultimately blame the chairman.

As usual I wont be popular but if we want to make SMS intimidating we have to have a whole end of singing fans who will pull the team to victory.Therfore there is no better time for the new owners to shut the Northam to home fans and get them relocated to the Chapel End.Then we can have thousands singing in unison and drowning out the away fans.

I will say that it would inconvienience me as Im a northam s/t holder but have seen the sense of having an intimidating end to get on the backs of the away team.

Too often when we have had big games the away support lrevels out the home singing due to it being fractured all over the place.

We seem to be the only club where the home end hardly ever sings and the vocal fans are divided and so dont make the same impression on away teams.

We will become United, but after our future is fully decided imho. After that we're all sorted though!

Sincerely, hope so but I doubt we will get the absolute clean sheet so many of us need for unity to be a reality. Even then it won't take long for the seeds of dissatisfaction to be sown as we have witnessed so many times in our recent history.

Disagree, but get your sentiment. I think opeing the Itchen/Northam corner again and maybe shutting the family corner and Intchen Chapel Corner would be better. Away fans I have spoken found being chanted at by 2 sides quite imtimidating and drowns them out a lot more!

Going down to Division 1 if we're bought soon enough will mean very few away supporters for a lot of the games. For us to unite behind the team we need to see players with steel in the team. A modern day Jimmy case or two with a hard no nonsence halfback(showing my age) A big strong centre forward would also be a major asset. With enough muscle in the team I feel the kids would be able to develop a lot more easily. Throughout our history we have sold players to the big boys and with luck this will be possible and not at our expense.

We need to revert to a club with solid backing from the fans as a lot on here have begun saying. God willing this club of ours will soon start the fightback to the promised land.

I must admit that this thread has given me hope for our future. While we are here it can not die. When do we start buying SR's is the first questions for the owner/s.
