matthieu Posted 2 June, 2009 Share Posted 2 June, 2009 Denilson, the left winger, not the one who plays for Arsenal, has just signed for a club called Xi Mang Hai Phong in the Vietnamese league. What makes this more surreal is that 10years ago he became the world's most expensive player when moving to Real Betis for £21.5m After failing there and in other transfers he now ends up where he has to go to Vietnam to get a game. Surely, Surely he's good enough for Saints??
Leslie Charteris Posted 2 June, 2009 Share Posted 2 June, 2009 We need a left back, not a left winger, I'd have thought. Perhaps he's in Vietnam for reasons other than football?

Well he does get paid more a week than every other player in the league put together! Still, I think HCDAJFU
Leslie Charteris Posted 2 June, 2009 Share Posted 2 June, 2009 (edited) Yep, it seems he's getting US$50,000+ a week playing for Haiphong Cement. More than loose change, even for our new owner, I expect. Edited 2 June, 2009 by Leslie Charteris
Arizona Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Not quite in Denilson's league, but I remember Jody Morris going from Chelsea to Leeds to Rotherham in little over a year. If you look hard enough there are probably a few out there like that. Rivaldo nearly ended up at Bolton IIRC.
Saint Bones Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 My local team, Perth Glory, were in talks with him about a guest stint. Money I think was the issue. So he may be playing for a unknown club but I bet my left one he is still earning a bloody good wage. After reading the article about Evra from United and the 'perks' they get who wouldnt be a footballer. Saint Bones Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Perth ended up with Andy Todd instead Ha Ha - yeah big names thrown around lately. I do think Todd however will be decent in our league... As long as he doesnt clock too many players and/or refs Good to see WA finally getting a half decent friendly with Wolves and Fulham playing here. The9 Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 There's a LOT of money in some of those leagues for big name "profile-raising" players as local leagues try to compete with the Global Branding Monster that is the Premier League. Denilson also had a trial with Bolton according to Sky Sports News...

I've been to Hai Phong in Vietnam its next to a world heritage site called Halong Bay. I watched that team on local TV on a boat in the bay - the TV caused the boat to catch fire. Scudamore Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Denilson was a step over show pony...how the f::ck he ever got that price tag and how Betis afforded it are two serious mysteries...
Snopper Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Not really a fall from grace as such, to be fair, but I see that Alan Blayney has signed a three year deal with Linfield. Good luck to him - his stunning save from Shearer still lives in the memory.

"currently playing for Bunyodkor, on a multi-million dollar contract, in the Uzbek League" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivaldo They had Zico as a manager for a while too, but then he legged it to CSKA Moscow when they laid more cash on the table. To be fair to Rivaldo, his isn't really a fall from grace, he's too old to play anywhere else these days. He's won world cups and played for Barca in his peak, just watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2ujBOUQIxw and see him get Barca into the Champs League on the last day of the season with a stunning hattrick. RinNY Posted 4 June, 2009 Share Posted 4 June, 2009 We need a left back, not a left winger, I'd have thought. Perhaps he's in Vietnam for reasons other than football? Far as I know, we have two left backs: Joseph "Fish" Mills and Lee Molyneux. Now admittedly, Molyneux did not impress that much last season, but that isn't to say he won't impress in L1. And Mills did very well in L1, on loan with Scunny, if I remember rightly. Either way, no we do not need a left back at present: centre back, maybe ... unless we can sign Saeijs. Any footballer would. IIRC he was linked to Bolton whilst still at Milan and Bolton were relegation fodder. Ended up at Cruzeiro instead apparently. Fan The Flames Posted 24 June, 2009 Share Posted 24 June, 2009 I was always shocked how quick the great Steve Moran fell through the divisions, the super Saints then Leciester and Exeter. Now Leciester are above us and were playing Exeter this season.
