  1. There had better be a press conference - just bribed my network manager with promises of mucho Guinness to open up the firewall so I can listen to Radio Solent online for the rest of the day.
  2. If we got a chairman like Mike Ashley - who has ploughed nearly 250 million pounds into Newcastle - would we really have cause for complaint? I know Newcastle fans who hate him with a passion - and he looks likely to be a chairman who brings about relegation. However surely the blame for that relegation lies more with the managerial appointments, some of which you can argue were forced on Ashley by the fans in their constant pursuit of a Geordie messiah.
  3. To be honest it is still odd that they called in the overdraft. If it was consistantly rising I could understand it but by all accounts it had been cut by 2 million over the course of last season. By forcing SLH into administration they've more or less guaranteed that they'll lose money as it's unlikely they'll be paid back in full, but there was at least a chance of that if they hadn't called it in. So by calling in the overdraft they've cost themselves money and dented their reputation in the world of football. So why did they do it?
  4. Is Saturday the new Friday then?
  5. The best thing the new owners could do is stay out of footballing matters. Unless they're Matt of course!
  6. Well the OS is doing our job for us http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11750 Skacel, Smith and GAsmi gone along with Hatch, Imudia and a bevvy of other scholars.
  7. I reckon Shearer could be okay at a League One side. Players at that level will be a little in awe of him for his name and his achievements. Problem is at Newcastle there's half a dozen players who reckon they're better than him and without that respect you have to fall back on your coaching skills, and if you've not built them up at the lower levels you're in trouble. Ince is another - he had enough respect from the players to do a decent job at MK Dons but in the Premiership was found wonting.
  8. I'm worried that some want us to fold so we can be used as an example of why a 'Premier League 2' with limited relegation / promotion is needed.
  9. An excellent article FF! I have to agree with everything you've said. I would also add that I think the restricted capacity of the Dell in the 90s lost us a generation of potential fans. When you sell out every match it's hard for the casual fan to get a foot in the door and many were lost to the big clubs through blanket TV coverage or lost to football altogether. One point of disagreement, personally I'd look back to Kaiser Wilhelm II rather than Hitler. We were never the force again after the great war
  10. What with? Alcoholism? Insomnia? Finances? A crocodile? Lucy Pinder in a vat of porridge?
  11. As a local I can confirm that Haringey / Harringay is correctly spelt "Crouch End borders". Least ways that's it says in all the estate agent round here
  12. If we get through administration unscathed I will breathe a huge sigh of relief. However the real risk remains that we'll cease to be, or head into the vicious circle of successive administrations that have driven Luton into non-league football. Even if that is avoided we could find ourselves asset stripped and dropping into League 2 as a result of this round of administration. Barring a miracle it could be years before we see any benefit to administration bar the removal of Lowe. For some I know that is enough, I remain unconvinced.
  13. To be honest at the mome I'd be happy with someone coming in with no more immediate ambition than securing the club's long term future. Just sort out the debt and halt the decline without sacrificing Saint Mary's, Staplewood or the academy. Makes us a far more attractive proposition to someone with a bit more cash to push us on a bit further.
  14. Gillett is contracted until 2011 - hope we hang on to him http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10238 Lancashire contracted until June 2010 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/team/?page_id=6587&player_id=75
  15. Third person singular. That suggests we're not looking at a consortium but a single weathly individual. Very interesting...
  16. Why did I bother to stay up to watch the Championship? The final insult from ITV as they only bother to show one goal from our match. I guess I should get used to it
  17. How about we have a complete ban on any mention of Lowe or Wilde? It would cutdown on the infighting - although admittedly some posters would have nothing to post!
  18. Gillett and James for giving me hope for the future.
  19. Good call - and BUMP to make sure a mod notices
  20. Incredibly down after today, but this rumour has given me new hope. Please let it come to fruition! Oh to live in Le God's country again...
  21. he definetly knew how to kep the ball. Releasing it was another matter TBH I liked FF and was sightly shocked to look at his career stats and realise that actually Saints was pretty much the highlight of his career. It's both scary and sad to think that at the age of 29 his career seems to be more or less over. Thanks for the good times Fabrice
  22. There is the issue of the players wages. If I understand the system correctly then the PFA pays the wages of any club that is in administration and unable to guarantee the players will get paid. They are already paying wages at Darlington, Stockport, Chester and Bournemouth http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1165564/Union-pay-players-wages-Darlington-Stockport-Chester-Bournemouth-12-clubs-face-administration.html Of course Southampton FC isn't in administration, so the PFA aren't paying the wages. But the league has docked us points, so they consider us to be in administration. In which case the PFA would owe us a very handy £130k wouldn't they?
  23. 3 days is I believe the time elapsed adjusted number quoted, although I'm not sure whether that's 3 working days or not. Sometime next week anyway. Time for a very black sweepstake. I'll take 8 am Tuesday morning for Saints winding up.
  24. Whoever the manager is we as fans need to give him our full support. We can be difficult to please and I guarantee that were we to appoint Sir Alex Ferguson someone would be on here posting about how he's a has been, shortly followed by the Fergie Out campaign and the 'I'll never set foot again in Saint Mary's while he's at the club' posturing.
  25. Ah Friday. It takes me back to the golden age of takeover threads: the single post ITKs, the rabid "I don't want X anywhere near the club" rantings, the random names plucked out of the Sunday Times rich list, the wild(e) conspriracies and the bitter flame wars. Better than talking about the football anyway Sven Goran Eriksson by lunchtime!
