It's a bit early to be pencilling in Tino's triumphant return from what is a career threatening injury. Sam McQueen never kicked a ball again in anger after he did his ACL. Jay Rodriguez was never the same player. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is barely a part-time footballer now. It'd be foolish for the club not to plan for his recovery taking far longer than speculated. Getting back on the pitch is one thing, getting back to playing at pre-injury levels quite another. I'd guess that we'll sniff around Brandon Williams again as a season loan.

Great. So we're going to waste another transfer window trying to build a squad to fit an utterly flawed formation and tactical approach to appease a broken flush manager who'll be gone by November. I'll say this for Saints, at least they consistently spare the supporters from the dreaded phrase "it's the hope that kills you". The guy is done. All out of ideas, and he only ever had one. And the football is absolutely shite. As boring as Puel, but without the grim pragmatism.

Nice potential CB pairing out of contract in the summer: Dan Axel Zagadou (22), left sided giant at Dortmund, and Niklas Stark (27), German international right sided CB at Hertha Berlin who also plays in midfield. Former Man City CB and Belgian international Jason Denayer (26) is also available on a free from Lyon. Bit of value out there in the market, perhaps, for us paupers.

10 days rest VS 3 days after extra time on a warm afternoon. And still - somehow - they'll have more energy and intensity than us come Tuesday. I'm not saying there's something dodgy going on at Liverpool, but their ability to press for nigh on 90 minutes every game for 60+ games per season is certainly in stark contrast to every other team in Europe. We can barely keep it going for 30 minutes.

In that scenario, they will have lost to Chelsea so their goal difference to us will be at least minus 16 if not worse. They have won by more than one goal twice in 2022. 3-1 against Burnley and 3-0 against Norwich (at the time positioned 19th and 20th). And they're finishing the season against solid, in form Brighton (h) and Brentford (a).

It would leave Leeds six points behind us with two games left - and a worse goal difference by more than fifteen. We'd be safe all bar the shouting.

The owners, with their Brentford links, can't fail to notice the increasingly stark difference between the state of the club they left and their new toy. The youth set up seems to be in decent health right now. It's the first team that's going nowhere but down if they don't change something.

That's a massive if.

Time to start watching Burnley, Everton and Leeds' results. Need a few favours - we aren't picking up any more points this season.

Ferry's spent the season on loan at Crawley in League Two. Seems to play every week in some capacity, but for an offensive player, a return of 1 goal and 3 assists doesn't suggest he's going to come back here and make an impact any time soon.

FWIW I think Hasenhuttl's football is shite most of the time. If the press doesn't work, or we're too knackered to play with the required intensity, there's fuck all else to us. Just slow sideways and backwards passing with little in the way of creativity. Set pieces are our only real hope. It's crap and predictable. I think he's done his time. We're not progressing. We look stale. Handshakes, thanks for the memories, and move on.

It's a very realistic possibility that we won't get another point and finish on 40. And Everton can get 47 if they win their remaining games (which they won't). Burnley can get 46 (which they won't). But Leeds are the ones to watch. Appalling goal difference. They'll need 7 points to overtake us. From 4 games (Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford), with no fit strikers and injuries all over the squad. They're in deep shit.

Terrible goalkeeping. We've been increasingly poor. Palace playing to win. Fuck knows what we're doing.

Bit fortuitous to be 1-0 at half time, IMO. Palace the better team. Real lack of quality going forward. Tella's not at this level, Long works hard but is a shadow of the (not particularly good) player he used to be, Adams is no threat, Redmond has had a few nice touches but nothing of substance. Midfield looks leggy. Prowse got outpaced by Joel Ward, who's about a hundred years old and never had any pace even when he was young. A lot to do to close this game out in the second half.
