  1. Sorry alpine, but how is this whole thread "valid criticism"? Pardew gave a reasoned, balanced assessment of where we are as a club. We effectively started from scratch this season, to with a shout of the playoffs is an achievement and perhaps, for the long term, going up next year as a team that has had a year together and goes up with silverware rather than sneaking into the playoffs, is the better option.. Quite frankly how people on here expect instant success when bar 3 players this is a completely different team that finished last season, is beyond me... Championship manager and Fantasy football have a lot to answer for...
  2. Funny how a semi final at Wembley has got the skates out in their droves... Now for the nightmare scenario, they go out to Redknapp's team with Crouch/Defoe/Krancjar scoring, relegation and a further points deduction whilst in the hands of the Football League...
  3. But Alpine, you can say exactly the same about you when we lose... It happens, we're not the best team in the world when we win 5-0/5-1, neither are we the worst team in the world when we lose 1-2...
  4. The Invention Of Lying is unbelievably sheet....
  5. Our attendances have slowly increased over the season as the feelgood factor came back, not necessarily success but just the feeling that this club was moving in the direct direction for once... There is the world of difference between the first round of the Johnsons Paint and the third round of the FA cup especially when your club can't pay the wages Now if we can get 12,000 against Torquay in the Johnsons Paint and Pompey get less less against Premier league opposition in the FA cup, knowing money is so tight they can't pay their players on time, then they don't deserve success.... F u c k them...
  6. If they get to the semi and take their full allocation then it's a disgrace. After getting 10,315 at home in the cup against Sunderland and 11,214 against Coventry then they don't deserve the slightest any success at all...
  7. Please tell me no one actually wants Pulis to a get a run out this season???
  8. Fair play to the 600 odd Huddersfield fans who travelled so far mid week. The ones we spoke to we were top blokes and very complimentary of Saints, online they were too... A few choice comments from one board... "So as someone mentioned earlier..is there 7 teams better than Saints? " "Southampton spent more on a couple of players in January than our ENTIRE squad cost. They pay Lambert more in wages than around 1/2 our first team are on cummulatively. "The squad they now have would easily be a top half championship side. Get a grip and sense of perspective, 1 loss in around 11 games i.e. just under a quarter of a season!" "It happens ... it's a new, young team against a big club. " "Well done to the Saints though, it takes a decent side to do that to us. " "What a load of tosh, Leeds might be your biggest game of the season but I think the Town management won't share your views. No excuses for tonight, Southampton sound to be in a different league to us and if we don't improve soon it could get really embarrassing. " "saints to finish on 80 points. you heard it here first. " "Roundly beaten by a fast, slick Southampton side this evening. " "Soton are an expensively assembled team now - lambert £1m+, barnard £250k, centre back from palace £1m+ to name but 3 and will be firm favourites to return to the championship next season if they dont make it this time" "We lose one game away from home against one of the best teams in this division and suddenly we are "****" ! " "Don't often post but feel as though I should tonight. It was payback we battered them and should have scored loads if it wasn't for Kelvin Davis in August. As painful as it was Southampton, lets be fair a big club, did us. But I've got to be honest would I rather not take a hiding than be competative in this league - would I hell! We got beat but even Man United have got some beatings on the way to league titles. I may be wrong but I reckon the performance will be 100% better at Gillingham and if at the end of the season we end up outside the play-off place then and only then will be the time to judge the players and staff. Remember Southampton aren't exactly a non-runner, there is a multi-millionaire bankrolling them!" And from Lee Clark himself.... "Southampton won every first and second ball; they passed it better; competed better and got crosses in far too easily. It was men against boys. I knew that Southampton are a good side. I knew that they had bought very well, had some terrific individual players and were playing as a very good side given their record over the past ten to twelve games, so they didn't surprise me." How good is it to hear comments like that about our team?
  9. Hindsight is a great thing isn't it? We started the season with a poor squad and minus ten points. If anyone had views of definite promotion then, then they'd be some huge sort of optimist... As it is we acquired a shrewd chairman, a great manager, some great players and belief started to grow. But to say "I was aiming for promotion all along" is just bloody stupid... I'd like to think we're all surprised at just how good we've become...
  10. Dammit Phil, that's the one cliche I hate, people mocking it taking time for a team to gel. What I saw last night and Saturday was a team that now knew each other's game and was playing as one... and it takes time to do that. Did people really think we'd buy a whole new set of players and bingo, they'd playing sides off the park? No, it takes a bit of time, a bit of luck and you can get a team like the one we fielded this week... So much to look forward to this season and the next...
  11. I'm left wondering why there seems to be so little (relatively speaking) mention of Dan Harding? He was ****ing immense last night, best left back performance I've seen in years....
  12. Do like this one... "this post was done as a wind up.... And some of the ponytouchers bit.. Of course you are all welcome on here, we love the banter, i often go on your board, i read the first 3 post and it helps me fall into a deep sleep PUP" Yep, I can imagine most us would take that as an almost untouchable put down...
  13. So we won't see you at Wembley then? How many games have you been to this season to judge it as such a failure?
  14. So what you're effectively saying is that admin merely delays the inevitable... "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when... But I know we'll meet again some sunny day..... Keep lying through, Just like you always do Till the red stripes drive the blue ****s far away So will you please say "Hello" To the skates that I know Tell them it won't be long They'll be unhappy to know That as I saw you go I was singing this song..."
  15. Am I missing something here? Is this season such a huge let down?? At the beginning of the season it was all doom and gloom and we'd be lucky to get to mid table, and were facing another relegation battle. We're now mid table and going to Wembley! FFS what more do you want???? If throwing money at the situation works then please explain to me why Man City aren't top of the Premier league? It takes time and when you start off with -10 it's a huge mental barrier against winning. Now only 5 other teams have scored more goals than us and we've lost 6 games... the same as Leeds, so we're hard to beat as well.. Jeez, come on people... enjoy the bloody season...
  16. Seriously... You're taking the p1ss out of someone for being "ITK"? The amount of sheer brass neck is breathtaking...
  17. A home defeat and in front of a packed house too.... oh sorry... 17,208 Damn those away fans, staying away in their droves... again...
  18. Dan Walker on the BBC site hit the nail on the head when he said.. "Hull were interested in signing the same players as Portsmouth last summer - the likes of Frederic Piquionne and Aruna Dindane - but couldn't compete financially with Pompey when it came to both fees and wages. If Portsmouth were then kept afloat with Premier League money - after spending beyond their means - how could that be fair on teams like Hull who might go down because they missed out on those players that went to Portsmouth even though they couldn't afford them?" Now that raises a massive, massive point. Bigger than the Carlos Tevez scandal, if Pompey survive with players they shouldn't have been able to sign but have been able to by a Premier League desperate to maintain an image, could the team relegated sue the Premier league?? The way Pompey have been allowed to limp on far eclipses the Tevez scandal in so much as sooo much has been done by the powers that be to keep Pompey in business. Had it been the Championship or League 1 or 2 Pompey would be gone... Oh sorry... that's next year...
  19. But the question is, if Pompey have been trading whilst insolvent, should the transfer embargo have been lifted? Pompey are heading towards Carlos Tevez territory should they survive. If you were a team relegated in their place you'd quite rightly ask how they were allowed to sign the players that took Pompey to safety... Quite frankly I hope Pompey are expelled and Birmingham get a bye rather than us getting a second chance. That said 3 of Pompey's goalscorers really shouldn't have been playing in the first place... and any skate who thinks other wise is a retard..
  20. Bingo...spot on... The point here is that Pompey shouldn't have had had their transfer embargo lifted if they are trading whilst insolvent. Three of their goalscorers really shouldn't have been plaything for them. If they survive, are we looking at anther Tevez scandal here? If they survive and say, Wolves, go down in their place, then how fair is it a club keeping within their means goes down and yet a club spending money they don't have, and never could have judging by their ground, gets special treatment... how is that fair and competitive?? This is cheating, end of. The league talks of maintaining the "integrity of the league" where is the integrity of a club being allowed to get deeper and deeper in debt, playing players they shouldn't be allowed to... Yes I was ****ed off we lost to them but more ****ed off that three of their goalscorers really shouldn't have been allowed on the pitch in a Pompey shirt. We lost god knows how many players because we kept within our budget and tried to keep out of debt... If that's not cheating I don't know what is...
  21. If Portsmouth people are weird and insular then you really are a skate....
  22. Especially when you know where the fish has been...
  23. Someone has been messing with your forum profile Numpteen, I would talk to the mods as I have been taken off your ignore list without your authorisation.
  24. Then you obviously weren't at St Marys today... They go out of business? I wont bat an eyelid...
  25. And that is the best point in this entire thread... Had David James not been in stunning form then we would have won. Simple. He produced at least two stunning saves, quite stunning... After seeing him play today I think the world cup should be quite interesting... On the plus side, we just got caught on the break. It's not some amazing surprise, we went for it and after their second, we were chasing the game. All this over analysing of the game doesn't help matters, for 75 minutes of the game we were the better side against a team two divisions above us...
