You won't be able to pick up the Freesat channels in Austria without installing a MASSIVE dish. The beam is tightly focussed on the UK. People in France, Belguim, Holland can pick it up but the signal drops off very quickly as you get further afield. The subscription Sky channels may be a bit easier to get (if you can get a Sky receiver and card) as they are mainly broadcast on a wider beam (but still on the Astra 1 cluster.)

I've got the LP as well. The commentator was Peter Jones I think. The summarizer who says something like "wouldn't one of these teams like to break the deadlock now" just before the goal was scored was Duncan McKenzie.

Matt Le Tissier (for the Benali testimonial game)

I know this is completely off-topic for the forum but may I say how refreshing it is to read an intelligent, well-reasoned and tolerant discussion on this issue from both sides. When religion is discussed on most internet forums it usually degenerates pretty quickly to insults and closed minds - come to think of it, a bit like some of the footy-related discussions on here

I remember him scoring on his debut at the Dell, about a minute after coming on as a sub.

With 6 promotion/play-off places up for grabs and 4 relegation spots, it's quite likely that we'll have at least an outside chance of one or the other (or both!) until perhaps the final 3-4 games. I would settle for that upper middle finish though.

Agreed. I remember going to an all non-league 1st round tie between Windsor&Eton and Farnborough a few years ago. The fog began to close in a half-time and 10 minutes into the second half you could barely see 20 yards in front in you and the ref had to abandon the game. On the positive side, I did win 3rd prize in the raffle - a box of choccies if I remember rightly. I think an away draw against a non-league side could be a great occasion.

Just so you know - I'm booing when Torquay take theirs.

Not as pointless as continuing to read threads that you're not interested in.

Take him! An adult/child ticket pair in the Chapel end (Family Center) is great value this season and there will be other kids his age there. Be prepared for the fact that he might get bored after 15 minutes so you might want to bring along a book or DS or whatever to keep him occupied while you watch the game. Alternatively he may be hooked and become a fan for life. (Are you happy to inflict that on him? ) The only downside then is that you will be nagged to take him every week.

That's the problem. You only have to look at the discussions on here to know that if you take 20000 fans you'll get something like 20000 different opinions (or even more sometimes ) I don't see how any one person or group could be said to be representative of the fanbase unless he/she has to keep saying "On the one hand, some people think X but on the other, some believe Y..." and so on. I have no problem with the media talking to groups like SISA as long as it's clear in reports that it is just one person's or group's view.

I thinks it's more of a 'wouldnt it be nice if we won but dont get your hopes up' game.

You mean there are people who would rush off to watch a meaningless England friendly rather than having their nerves torn to shreds watching Saints try to hold on to a 1-0 lead?
-
If I understood it right, I think the timing was down to Barclays rather than Lowe.

BBC will be showing 10 live games during the season starting with WBA v Newcastle on the opening day. They are only showing Championship matches though :-(

It would be more interesting than rugby, that's for sure.

I think I remember that - last minute winner by Millwall wasn't it? As for the Sky "curse", I agree it used to a bit a of a myth in the past. But if you check our TV record last season I think it was something like played 8, lost 8.

Thanks - I'm not going mad :-) I wonder whatever happened to Pat Earles.

Does anyone else (who is old enough like me) remember us playing a friendly against Hearts just after winning the FA Cup Final in 76. Most people remember the Channon testimonial on the Monday evening but I'm sure we also played against Hearts on the following Saturday. I have no idea why a friendly like this was played post-season. I seem to remember it being billed as a English vs Scottish cup winners game. I went along early thinking the Dell would be packed like the Channon game but in fact it was a bit of an anti-climax with not many there. Sad as I am, I even remember the score - we lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up. Am I going mad or does anyone else remember this?

I'm just off for a cup of tea. I hope to see a couple of interesting posts by the time I get back.

Wouldn't surprise me after he scored 2 against them at SMS.

Would that be WWGS ?

To be fair, the horses had been giving them some stick during the game - making gestures with their hooves and taunting them with songs about floor cleaner and so on.

A poster on the Echo page points out that Gillico rhymes with Lowe. That's good enough proof for me.
