‘I think Ric (Ricardo Rocha) can head a ball, Gabor can also head a ball – and they are teaching Adam Webster how to head the ball which is good because he is our future. Please read this out loud for yourselves - in a thread of comedy gold this one is up there with some of the best. The images I get in my mind is not too far off that video posted from the Pompey half time talk. GW: "Ric, I seem to remember that you can head a ball. Yes? No? No?! Ok then. Gabor, you can head a ball. Show young Adam how it is done. See Adam? The ball hit his head. That's called a header. You must learn that because you are our future, and we will need some headers in the future when Gabor is gone." Oh, and Special Neil managed to sneak another beauty into the article when he describes how "the caretaker boss is delighted with the impact the Nigerian international has had on his team so far". Nigerian International? Really? Seeing as the last of his 7 international games came in August 2010 (the first in 2005), I think Neil should probably have managed to sneak in the word "former" somewhere in that sentence...

Too soon? (Bexy wins it though )

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I seem to remember being given the choice between local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic. The doctor invited me to follow the surgery on a monitor. I chose general anaesthetic instead... However, that choice would influence how much time is needed for recovery...

You lying media journo scumbag!

I just googled the Riise goal which led me to a video of Frank Sinclairs three amazing own goals. That got me thinking about Scott Marshall who managed to score an own goal in each of his only two games with us - he ought to be in this thread, but as I had forgotten about him, he must go in the thread about forgotten players instead

Not surprisingly there are many different suggestions - I could have made the original post clearer. For instance, a short explanation next to the name suggested would help others follow the reasoning behind the choice. Also I'd say that players like Peach and Benali have played too many games to only be defined by one or two moments before returning to obscurity. To me, they are recognised as a significant part of the history of SFC. Stern John is an excellent shout because of that final game of the season. Alan Blayney too for that save. Miller and Wright for their brief stints during our dark years... Many more good suggestions

I was reading about Forte scoring for Blades and immediately thought about his two goals against MK Dons. That half an hour is his legacy here - he will never be a Saints great or one of the heroes, but he probably won't be forgotten either because of the perceived importance of those goals. That got me thinking about Mickey Evans - not a Saints legend or a long standing servant of the club either, but he is still a popular player because of the perceived importance of those 4 goals that earned him POTM in the PL i 1997. Are there other players like this; players that never really got a career going at Saints but for some reason or other left a lasting impression, a touch of brilliance, an important contribution - something that means that they are not the first to crop up in the "Players we forgot" thread Disclaimer: I haven't really thought this through. Maybe there are way too many for this topic to make sense, or maybe too few? Can the great minds of this forum think of someone who would fit the description?

I could imagine Pochettino telling the young defenders that if they make rash challenges they'll get an hour of 1-on-1 duels with Rickie. That'll teach them to stay focused...

Ah yes, that's how it went... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dani_Rodrigues In an act of "un-neighbourly piracy",[1] Southampton nipped in and signed Rodrigues from Feirense for £200,000. He made two substitute appearances at the end of the 1999–00 season, against Leicester City[2] and Wimbledon.[3] Rodrigues showed promise and, when he went on loan to Bristol City at the end of 2000, he was an instant hit, but he broke an ankle in a match against Reading. He returned to the Saints and was fighting his way back to full fitness when he broke the same ankle in training.[1] In an effort to rebuild his career, Rodrigues spent another spell on loan to Bristol City. Southampton released him from his contract in July 2002 and he was signed by Walsall on a free transfer.[1]

Only realised now that Seaborne is playing for them as a starter - good job, Danny!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/1999/aug/26/newsstory.sport4 Bruno Leal, brother of Boa Morte (apparently) Now that article brought up another player, I'd forgotten about: Dani Rodrigues. Maybe he's been mentioned earlier in this thread, but only now I remember the story about us snapping him up in front of AFCB - and then he went on and got a bad injury...
-
And I see that he is actually an ever-present in the side since joining them - very good loan for all involved, I'd say.
-
I just assumed it was a case of 'Effemenitis' (playing too much FM and thinking that real world squads work like in the game)...

Depending on how the players in the "unknown quantities" bracket fare, I'd hang on to Richardson, Chaplow and Sharp. With Clyne deputising as LB we need a solid RB as backup, Chaplow may turn out to have the engine to perform well under Pochettino, and for all I know, Sharp could turn out to be our Le Fondre, coming off the bench to score late goals And Reeves?

I guess now is as good a time as ever to drag out this smiley:

I make it P21 W15 D5 L1 in the league since taking over on October 12th. Including FA Cup, I make it P25 W17 D6 L2. Impressive turnaround from their P11 W1 D5 L5 before Howe...
-
Should be a good experience for Reeves.
-
Writing off a 19 year old defender now before he's even had the chance to prove himself?!
-
As SuperMikey showed so nicely, we should hang on to Davis, Richardson, Fox, Guly, and perhaps Martin, Chaplow, Sharp and Lee. That leaves Forecast, Butterfield, Seaborne, Dickson, Hammond, Forte, and Barnard. Remember, any of these players could get a new lease of life if they turn out to fit well with MP's tactics - Davis being the obvious example...

Maybe stick a rolled up programme up his *rse? Then again, maybe you'll have duck noises from two fronts then

Quite random post in a thread about our players out on loan Good to hear that some of our loan players are making an impact at their respective clubs...
-
Any interesting news from our other players out on loan?

Relegation Battle - The Opposition's view
Lazlo78 replied to georgeweahscousin's topic in The Saints
I'm sure you won't replicate this mistake when doing your blog for the rest of us to enjoy Thanks Chris for an interesting read. It's all about opinions so I find it interesting to see how other non-Saints perceive the relegation battle... Out of the 15 votes, none for Saints. Maybe out of politeness for Chris but most likely because they genuinely don't see us going down...
