Was Jamie Redknapp ever England captain?
-
Yup!
-
Nope. Both he and Moss were involved in the match in question, but it wasn't their last for the Saints. The one I am looking for was a home grown player...
-
Damn, knew the wording was poor. Against him = against the team he was playing in (he wasn't the goalie )
-
Name the player: on his last appearance for the Saints, he suffered a Rideout hattrick against him...

-
A few demons to exorcise on the opening day, I see. Fine

I didn't see your hint before posting but it's lost on me anyway...

Tim Sparv Edit: didn't fit any of the criteria *sigh*

It's Not Just The Bales, Walcotts and Chambos That The Academy Produce

List hasn't been updated since January but should still be useful: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31876-SFC-Youth-Academy-currently-active-professional-players -
He's just not the finished article. May never be, but he has some good attributes and a calm head. And Villa was a good choice with only Vlaar, Clarke and Baker to compete with. As for Helenius I'm a bit more worried. He really needs playing time to improve and he is currently not PL standard. He hasn't even been able to break into a weak forward line in the national side in Bendtner's absence - I mean, Cornelius, Makienok and Pedersen are chosen ahead of him! That said, he's a lethal finisher and can lead the line. I'd expect him to be back in Denmark in a few years...

Cheer up. At least your full national team didn't lose 4-0 at home to Armenia in the WC qual... That was an interesting game...

How do you follow the Saints when you're not in Southampton
Lazlo78 replied to aussiesaint20's topic in The Saints
After relegation to League One, I vividly remember our opening match against Millwall. I was playing a music gig and had my smartphone on the floor next to me. Between each number, I would refresh the BBC Mobile page to get updates. I remember Paterson scored for us but Millwall equalised and the match ended 1-1. In League One I heard most of the matches via SaintsPlayer with Dave Merrington confidently leading me towards promotion. 22nd of February 2011 was a special day. Finally, we played the mythical Tuesday night match in (rainy?) Hartlepool; the true test of fanship. And I was there with Dave whispering in my ear... For the JPT final I tried to get tickets, but that never seemed to be an option for people abroad... 11/12 season I remember a few games better than the rest: Away against Pompey my wife had arranged to meet some friends and I refused to go. She stormed off with the kids and I was left alone with the computer. But what a match - that Guly, he's some character, eh? Home against Pompey I was at my parents's place answering all sorts of annoying questions from the entire family - and that's when Norris scored the... well here we call it 'the equaliser', but on Portsea Island it's still called 'the winning goal that kept them up and derailed our promotion bid'... Against Blackpool I was at my parents again, but this time wise enough to hide with a laptop. What a disappointing match and result. Away against Middlesbrough with promotion at stake, I was playing a music gig once again. This time I could not do with BBC Mobile, so I brought a laptop instead. While the guests were giving speeches etc. I had the laptop on my snare drum following the drama. Again, what a disappointing result and I hope the people who hired us for the job didn't notice my uncontrollable outbursts and spasms behind the drums... PL has been a much different experience with all matches available online. Heck, it's almost too easy The coming season I need to get back to St. Mary's. With three little kids and a very strained economy it's one of those things I need to time perfectly before suggesting to my wife, but nothing beats actually being at St. Mary's... -
Can anyone find a video of Dickson's assist for the first goal against Leyton Orient on the 9th of april 2011? I can't remember it in much detail, but I just mentally marked is as the assist of the season - would be nice to see it again...

It's all covered in the excellent tribute fron Duncan and David Bull on the OS: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/ron-davies-an-appreciation-840269.aspx

A player from before my time, but obviously one I've heard much about. R.I.P. Excellent tribute on the OS by Bull and Holley...

Stories of players choosing other smallish clubs over Pompey actually points towards a huge shift from Appy's "freebie" hunt (which turned out to be about offering mad wages to attract players) - could this really be the age of austerity for them?

Two weeks after Alpine's first rant about lack of transfer activity

Actually, I think you're not far off the mark. He's not cut for the cool, withdrawn role - he needs to be jumping up and down. He keeps fidgeting with the tie, the collar, his face etc. Much, much less interesting: his team is crap and should end below us in the table

Di Canio really looks uncomfortable in a suit and tie.

From his vantage point*, GM makes some fair observations (and a completely uninteresting personal attack). It is true that the PST should be praised for their hard work - and numerous times on this thread they have been praised for exactly that. They truly seem to have the best intentions for their club and they are not afraid to work hard to achieve their goals. This thread serves to ask some of the more difficult questions that the PST, the local media and the fans do not seem to raise themselves, while at the same time serving as a reminder of the recent history of PFC. Generally, the Pompey fans try their hardest to point towards the cup win as a measurement of how unfair the whole situation has been, yet at the same time they are very reluctant to acknowledge their responsiblity towards the creditors and the taxman they could not pay. The complete lack of any public budget for the club also demands some attention - even if they are not deliberately hiding anything it would be very interesting to see how they make ends meet. So yes, they should be praised for making an effort, but there are reasons to keep the thread going. If Guy's plea from the 27th about running the club responsibly is honoured, I'd say they could start receiving real praise. He does say all the right things while showing some sensibility and fingerspitzgefühl when balancing between past failures and future visions. * Vantage point:

Fine that Villa is putting a dent in Sunderland's GD. Villa's is so bad that they will never pass us on GD whereas Sunderland is currently on same GD as ourselves... Go Villa!
