quite baffling selections from hughes now. 1 why do we keep only playing 2 cms and giving up the centre of the park? 2 gabbi and armstrong looked our best players pre season gabbi seems to be 4th choice striker (must be getting really frustrated) whilst armstrong since picking up a injury hardly to be seen 3 where the hell is yoshi?
-
On the fence with Hughes myself, not exactly a super exciting appointment but happy to give him a chance. A few posts here slagging him off for not knowing his best formation seems a bit harsh, I think so far he seems quite tactically flexible which is quite refreshing after seeing mp do the same mistakes over and over. Didn't most people on her want the 442 after the second half at Burnley ? Biggest gripe for me is gabbi still seems way down the pecking order even after saving us last season and having a decent preseason, long is still called upon before him
-
This^ maybe it worked less effective yesterday as we played more of a 3-4-3 with Redmond and Armstrong wide where if we played 352 we could have three central midfielders so definitely not outnumbered in cm. I'd quite like to see this line up McCarthy Yoshida vestergaard hoedt Cedric. Lemina romeau. Bertrand Armstrong Gabbi ings

likewise, thought he was a lot better then usual today, but still thought on a lot of occasions he takes too long to release the ball and takes too many touches
-
wasnt happy with the signing but hands up maybe i was wrong.. looked very pacy and lively and on the evidence of today could be a top player for us.. much more of a threat then the anonymous austin
-
What does gabbiadini have to do to get a game? Was awesome vs celta and now loses out to Redmond
-
Well it's not difficult to be better then a player who couldn't get a game.. but that doesn't make this a good signing. Seems our fans celebrate every signing it is ok to have a honest opinion.. doubt many fans of other clubs are jealous of us signing ings
-
Liverpool must love us.. take all our best players and now palm us off with their rejects at a big price. Don't see him as any better then what we already have slight upgrade on long maybe but at 18-20m wtf
-
Say what you want about boufal but he was at least a option we now do not have, is better to have him and Redmond as options then just Redmond. Also not quite sure why people think two creative players in place of tadic and boufal.Armstrong is primarily a box to box central midfielder whilst boufal and tadic were attacking wingers/number tens don't think they are the same type of players.
-
Why are we again looking to strengthen in places thstvis not the priority? Mf probably our strongest area with romeau lemina, hojbjerg Armstrong ward profuse all capable of playing there. Craeative player, striker or cb please !
-
The only really class youth team players we had since being back in the prem were lallana and shaw, most of our success with the top 8 finishes came because of signings, vvd mane pelle wantama etc. I think the youngsters who are really special get huge hype and are fast tracked into the team. Walcott bale and shaw had plenty of buzz around them
-
actually think the 3-5-2 can work well against burnley if we use mo and armstrong as more attacking cms behind gabbi and austin. should be a game where we have more of the posession whilst they park the bus. tbh cant see how playing two strikers is as isolated as the one up front we played last year. think the two up top will benefit gabbiadini a lot more then when he was used as a lone striker and we all seemed to do was get crosses in from the wings
-
Wasn't one of the boards excuses for selling of big players a couple of seasons back that they needed to strengthen the depth of the squad? Maybe it was one of Ralph's pieces of wisdom? Anyway now seems like we are moaning about having to many average players which is pretty much where that got us. It's pretty depressing as said above when the likes of Bournemouth and even newly promoted Fulham are smashing us in terms of showing ambition for record buys, it's not like we had no money when we sold van dijk that we couldn't try to push on and make a couple of big signings, but we still seem content to shop in the 10-20 mil bargain basement

McCarthy Stephens vestergaard hoedt Target Romeau. Bertrand Elyounoussi Armstrong Gabbi. Austin Since it's against Burnley and they will probably defend hard I think this 5-1-2-2 could be the way to go gives us two creative midfielders in mo and Armstrong whilst romeau can sit back and hold
-
yup gabbi was superb. was getting scared he might slip out of favour like gaston and boufal. but hopefully hughes can see the potential and get the best out of him. his work rate, movement link up play was all great tonight, and he can shooot from distance if giving the space, got a feeling that shot that hit austin might have been going in

match ratings mccarthy 5 gunn,7 looked very assured in control and a couple of nice saves when needed bednarek 4, looked unconfident and out of his depth worst of our cbs tonight stephens 6 looked a lot better then bednarek has a bit of a nasty streak which can also be good, prepared to make a foul if in trouble vestergaard,7 looked strong and composed and quite comfortable on the ball, like what i saw from him hoedt,6 not too bad still looks a bit clums at times but won a few headers and distribution reasonably good bertrand 6 looks fit and ready decentish game mqueen 4. nothing special really here targett 8 2 great assists especially the second one, think we may have backup for both wingback positions in one player, boy done well romeau 7 steady performance from him at times decent balanced performance of good defense and creative at times davis.5 not really anything special from him meh hojbjerg.7 i like this guy puts himself about well and has a warrior attitude. always seems fired up and cares alot love the energy he brings armstrong 9. motm pretty much a vintage celtic highlight performance. is everywhere looks creative and showed his main strength with a well timed run and finish. elyoounossi 6. was gonna give him a 5 as thought he was pretty poor end product wise and didnt really do a lot, lost posession a lot when in threatining areas. ward prouse 7. looked sharp and pinged the ball around nicely when he came on, decent shot at end to creat the winner for elyououssi gabbiadini 8. awesome game from him i thought . super movement and link up play looks like he can strike a good ball from distance decent link up play and hardly lost ball austin 7 good header for goal decent showing, some good link up with gabbi long 5 pretty poor for the most part bad defending for second goal. gallagher,7 pretty impressed actually, can see what people are seeing in him, very decent physical presence and pacy to boot. has all the attributes
-
gabbi looking sharp. good movement nice long shot also
-
id have been happy to pretty much plus the holes this window van dijk out vestergaard in, ok but still a position we could have done with maybe another cb to replace another one of our poor cbs tadic and boufal out , elyounoussi in, not sure yet if we can count armstrong as a replacement for one of these, looks more of a cm from his celtic days not sure if needed, might turn out great or just be a squad player. but we were linked with promes heavily in january without losing two creative players carillo. we needed a striker when we bought him, have done nothing about replacing him yet. in one way i would like to see gabbi getting a lot of games think he could come good if the service was right. but we do still look thin up front. gunn, ok looks potentially a great one for the future, but again id prefer to prioritise immediade first team right now. there are bigger issues then trying to be smart for a squad keeper as number 2, especially if forster is still here on a big wage.
-
hehe but alcacer doesnt have that type of talent.. more of a poacher really. tbh i think we are better off with gabbi then him
-
i worry a bit about alcacers physique for the prem not really built or pacy
-
Agree with that. To be honest I quite rate sturridge when fit, would be a nice pacy option for us
-
Agree, think there's is way too much harshness on boufal, in my view I think he was becoming really frustrated with not being able to get a run of games going in the side, you could see this with the west brim goal his celebration was see this is what I can do if you pick me ! But in my opinion he just wanted to play. As for the run in with Hughes probably a simular case of getting fed up of being left out again, yes it's not very professional but you can kinda see why he was frustrated being a talented player stuck on the bench all the time or the first one dragged off., I doubt people will agree on here as it seems if your not playing your not good enough attitude goes, but I don't think we done enough to get the best out of him, Same goes for gabbiadini, super talented striker in a struggling team yet for most of the season stuck on the bench or brought on at a time where it's usually to late for him to make much impact, surprised he hasn't become frustrated in the same way as boufal but really hope he gets a good first team run going this year, although I worry as Hughes was preferring long in his time here so far.

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business
pimpin4rizeal replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Begs the question when are we going to start spending food and drink money on players? I'm not by any means saying transfer fee guarentes success but feels like even the newly promoted teams are spending more then us now. Likes of West Ham starting to spend 30m plus a couple of seasons ago don't think that there was that money clubs outside top 6 that was willing to spend more then us, Everton maybe but feels like we are standing still whilst other teams ambitions grow
