  1. Oh god, you're kidding, right? I can't stand them, all the Northerners on the national news, does my head in! But anyway, that's another topic ... Poster above was right about saying 'svamtun' - one of my work colleagues in who Hungarian visited "South-hamp-ton" this weekend and I had to teach him how to pronounce it properly I never really realised the little distinctions until I worked in London. Most people I work with are American or European with a fair few home-counties thrown in. We had a new starter a few months ago and I immediately picked up his accent from being from the Southampton area; not a strong accent, but little subtle things. I do notice that when I go abroad, especially to our US office, when I listen to myself, I think I sound MORE English over there and sound like bloody Hugh Grant in my own head.
  2. Thanks mate ... that was my first worry, I'd still rather sound like a bumpkin than a mockney! haha.
  3. Why do some people lose their accents more quickly than others? Reason being ... I was born in Southampton, grew up in the Waterside, always thought I had a New Forest(ish) accent. After having worked in and around London for so long, have been told I sound more London. But, my Nan was a Geordie, she lived all over the country and mostly down here for her life and NEVER lost her accent. Likewise my Grandad, proper New Forest bloke (and played for Saints in 1947) never lost his Forest accent, despite living in Middlesbrough, Lancashire and Crawley. How do people lose their accents so easily? Do Southampton accents sound more close to London now? I have noticed it's harder and harder to tell where someone is from now, unless you're a Scouser, Welsh, Geordie, Brummie etc.
  4. Agree, perversely this is why we may do okay next season (in the Premiership) as we'll "do a Swansea". I fully expect Swansea to get relegated next season, but there's no reason why we couldn't copy them and stay up for one season with our game, when on form. Today, we were sh*t, totally and utterly sh*t. But, we're still top, we'll still go up (I think) and we still are a good side. Blackpool were very very good today and Ince was brilliant - WHEN we go up, I would love us to buy him.
  5. Mate, totally disagree with you on the first bit - a very poor performance will mean (you'd hope) that they will want to make amends and therefore destroy the skates. That's my logic anyway. Totally agree with you on the second bit though!
  6. Totally agree with you and this is the best post of yours ever - you haven't sat on the fence for once!!
  7. Me too. I voted for the Basingstoke Common Man Party as my protest vote ... then the c*nt turned up at the results wearing a skate shirt. FFS.
  8. Jesus H Christ ... is it 2009 again? Jim Ratcliffe is a recluse and would never be interested in a football club. Okay, it IS 2009 again ...
  9. Are you drunk, or on drugs? Or just weak and not thinking straight because you're a vegetarian?
  10. Unless you're allergic to meat, being a vegetarian is attention seeking; "oh look at me, I don't eat meat, you'll have to cook me a special meal of my own", "How about p*ss off and eat what you're served you attention seeking moron".

    Turf

Turf?? No - seed it. Dig up the old turf/ground and flatten down, put a generous layer of lawn soil down and mix in some grass seeds with more lawn soil on top of that. You'll have a nice, flat lawn in no time. As I'm rock 'n roll, I spent yesterday preparing half my lawn for exactly that!
  12. One of your best posts! I don't understand all the gesture and guessing - what's the point? So long as we keep picking up points, who cares - we can only keep doing that, it's in our hands.
  13. Thick skate c*nt. You can find many quote about pretty much every stadium in the country like that, inc. The Dell, even bloody Highbury which was famous for being "quiet" had it's moments. Now p*ss off.
  14. Why the bloody hell not? Everyone uses the same services, NHS, libraries etc., so why shouldn't everyone pay a little income tax to pay for this? I actually liked the 10% tax rate, maybe they should introduce one at say 5%, just so that everyone is contributing SOMETHING in income tax? The whole system is messed up, all the parties are the same, MPs are all dodgy scrotums.
  15. Do you have actually have a job any more?
  16. p.s. yes he's a c*ck, but he does have some good recipes!
  17. Use as many eggs as possible - I read that once somewhere and it works! I use about 8, haha. Yeah, oil as f*cking hot as you can get it and crucially DON'T open the oven door, don't knock the oven, don't even breathe on it. Once it starts rising, if you knock the oven, open the door etc etc etc the mixture could collapse again. Simple rules. It might have been Jamie Oliver I read the above from, can't remember, but it works for me - this'll work nicely: http://www.food.com/recipe/jamie-olivers-yorkshire-puddings-397360
  18. They probably did. Most of the articles you read on the internet say it was from the Sunderland docks that they took the colours back to Spain.
  19. Obviously as we can't stand, can't swear and shout, can't sing anything remotely "threatening", can't have a beer in the stands, can't have flares then I'm going to give in and dress as a cuddly bear, sit down, clap and drink coffee. FFS
  20. Oh no, the forum police say "lock the thread because we don't like it" zzzz These threads just show what I always suspected, that most people don't know what they are talking about and type utter f*cking drivel on these forums - what's the point?
  21. Totally agree with this!
  22. I had mine at 29 - approaching my 30th birthday. Had got fat, bought a sports car and left my wife for some stupid thing that was 8 years younger which was always destined to be a complete disaster. Had a couple of years of great single-time, now happily married with a fantastic lady, both have great jobs, a nice house and have emerged from all the experiences a different, better person. Am not happy for what I did to my ex-wife, but she's moved on, I've moved on and you don't learn in life if you don't do things you really want to (try) and date/see various nut jobs along the way
  23. Sounded good mate, not sure where the mics where, but heard the Leeds fans a couple of times, but heard Saints more often - OWTS, top of league, Southampton's goal machine and an EIEIEIO etc. Great stuff!!
  24. Yes, the team spirit is incredible. All running on to congratulate Kelvin and plenty of man-love from Ricky towards him - great stuff!
  25. Do you really want a seven year old BMW? No, wouldn't have thought so. The Boxster is hideous, the Audi looks like a box. I'd go for the CLK, very comfy, although again a little old. Consider a C70 T5. Seriously - they are lovely cars, solid, extremely comfy, all the toys etc. I can't be bothered to waste time looking for a good example, so this'll do: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3588072.htm
