Is it right for the media to use images of refugee tragedy?
aintforever replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Lounge
I would rather be a refugee here than Turkey. My point was the fact that these people are homeless, jobless and probably skint and hungry - you don't have the faintest idea what they are going through. I've caught the ferry from Turkey to Kos, you don't attempt that in a inflatable dingy unless you are desperate. -

If everyone in the EU pulled their weight then it would be 10s of thousands max, not exactly a big deal when you think of the hundreds of thousands who rock up from Poland ever single year. Surely we have a moral obligation considering we ****ed up their region so we could enjoy the benefits of cheap oil. -

I'm pretty sure you havn't got a ****ing clue what it's like to flee your home in fear of your life and end up homeless in a place like Turkey. Weird how people seem to have a problem taking in a few thousand of these people yet happily subscribe to be part of the EU and let hundreds of thousands of people who already have homes in their homeland in every year to take our jobs and use our services. -

That sort of article is just written to make Telegraph readers feel better about themselves about not giving a ****. Of course the situation in Syria needs sorting out, but that's a long term problem. I can't be done over night. We should take our fair share of refugees AND sort out the mess our government caused when we created the vacume in Northern Iraq. It shouldn't be an either/or, highliging the root cause is just avoiding the immediate issue. -

Of course they are right to show the true human cost of the current crisis. The whole debate on immigration is so frustrating. We have this Tory government making all these anti immigration statements yet as being part of the EU we will never ever have control of our borders. It is a simple fact that if you are pro EU you are pro uncontrolled immigration, they is no grey area. Another simple fact is that if we left the EU we could bring in as many skilled foreign workers or help as many of these desperate refugees as we wanted without worrying about numbers. -

**** me, the attendance debate was settled years ago when we were two leagues below them and still averaging more. Above them in a smaller ground - averaged more, below them in a bigger ground - averaged more, we always average more. Their big crowds and success is all ancient history from a time when a bunch of amateurs booted a cow skin around a field watched by as many men in flat caps who could fit into any ground in the country, a time when Charlton Athletic got crowds of 75k plus. It's all irrelivant. Fact is look at the last 50 years and they are just a small lower league club, up for a season in the 80s then a brief spell paid for by the gun runner. 8 years total at the highest level, most of those cheating. In the same time we've only had 11 seasons out of the top flight.

You don't have any more freedom you f@ckwit. Give some loon the right to own an assault rifle and you deprive everyone else the right to live without the fear of getting shot by some maniac. Society needs rules and controls to stop it descending into chaos. Having to own you own killing machine in order to feel safe is not freedom, it's the opposite.

How do you make a quality player stay at Saints!
aintforever replied to Saint Billy's topic in The Saints
Makes sense, Bournemouth has nice beaches, is near the New Forest and has a nice selection of bars. I expect their next target is Aguero who can't be happy with the weather in Manchester. -

Players will go anywhere if you pay them enough, it's all about the money. Of course, all things being equal London is a bigger pull than Southampton but it's not going to be a significant factor. The only way to keep good players is to spend silly money, it's that simple. -

London is a pull but I don't think location is a big influence, look at the player City attract and no one wants to live up north. -
Scenery looks stunning but I've never really fancied New Zealand, too far away from anywhere, when you look at the globe it always seems like it's going to slide off the bottom. The only place it's near to is Australia and that's 90% desert. One thing in it's favour though is should nuclear war break out it will probably be the only habitable place on the planet. No one would bother sending any nukes all the way down there.

They just need a credible leader and decent team behind him/her and they will get more votes than the Milliband/Balls circus. They don't need a USP, like I said it all depends how the economy is, if people feel they are doing OK they won't vote for change. Even if the next crash doesn't happen before the next election, if the Tories austerity is not working then people may vote for a credible alternative. The problem with Labour is all their own doing, I personally don't give a ****e because they helped cause the Iraq war and all the problems that followed so deserve whatever they get. If they shift to the left it might actually open up room for a better alternative liberal party that does not have the baggage of the unions and all the history that goes with it.
-
There is no reason why Labour can't be electable, just need to be left of centre like Blair. Ed Milliband was just unelectable, get a credible leader and a decent team and they should do OK - it all depends on the state of the economy at the time of the next election. If there is another bank crash and we end up bailing out the banks again and austerity no 2 there will probably be a massive swing to the left.
-
I'm for it but I can understand the reasons why people are against it. I think the main reason is so the elderly don't feel under pressure to end it if they feel they are a burden on their family.

Labour moving towards to the middle is not more betraying principles than the Tories moving towards the middle.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 FC Midtjylland

A club the size of Saints is never far off a relegation battle if things are not quite right that's supposed to say. -

Poor showing last night against an organised but limited side. Can't see us going through to the group stage and I wouldn't be overly bothered if we don't. I can see this season being a struggle, we should stay up but I think the current squad doesn't have enough strength in depth for a Europa campaign and a decent Prem season. A clung the size of Saints is never far off a relegation battle if things are not quite right. -
Oh fo ****s sake, he talked to a radical Muslim, big deal. Hes obviously got the intelligence to know that the Palestinian issue cannot be resolved unless both sides talk to each other. You have to be thick as **** to think he's a racist for just talking to someone.
-
We would be nuts to sell him for anything less than £25mill and I doubt Utd would pay that.
-
I agree with the sentiment behind his policies and he has some nice ideas but the bottom line is his economic plans are way too risky. I don't have a great grasp of economics but even I know that just printing more money is no solution (even though that is what we have been doing already). The only way Labour will ever get to power is with Blair style policies, you need to win over Middle England - it's that simple.
