  2. Speaking before the match, he said: "I once had my doubt about staying at Southampton but not any more. I wouldn't want to go back to Italy now. I still don't like the cold weather and English food isn't my favourite. But what I do like here, more than anywhere I've been, is the people."
  3. At least you had a nice comfy warm pillow in exchange.
  4. Surely it's coaching rather than facilities that matters most: Three years ago an official report concluded that coaching is the "golden thread" leading to international success, but new Uefa data shows that there are only 2,769 English coaches holding Uefa's B, A and Pro badges, its top qualifications. Spain has produced 23,995, Italy 29,420, Germany 34,970 and France 17,588.
  5. I worked hard to keep the jokes in the spirit of the title and left a few out which fell well below that measure (unlike phil) ;-)
  6. That is part of the problem. If the FA wanted to raise standards (coaching and Team England) surely the centre of excellence at Burton would have been build now instead of having new Wembley.
  7. Everyone at my work mocks me for being a nerd, but tomorrow I'm going to bring a lump of coal in and show them what I'm really made of. . Who was the leader of the pedants' revolt? Which Tyler. . . A bunch of Polish scientists decided to flee their repressive government by hijacking an airliner and forcing the pilot to fly them to a western country. They drove to the airport, forced their way on board a large passenger jet, and found there was no pilot on board. Terrified, they listened as the sirens got louder. Finally, one of the scientists suggested that since he was an experimentalist, he would try to fly the aircraft. He sat down at the controls and tried to figure them out. The sirens got louder and louder. Armed men surrounded the jet. The would be pilot's friends cried out, "Please, please take off now!!! Hurry!!!" The experimentalist calmly replied, "Have patience. I'm just a simple pole in a complex plane." Einstein's girlfriend walked up to him and exclaimed ''I need two things from you, time and space.'' He looked at her inquiringly and asked ''What's the second thing?''
  8. It's a shame for the lower league clubs especially those with a good set up. They will get more in the way of solidarity payments but less in what a youngster is worth. More youngsters will be going to the top clubs to learn, however, there is still the same restriction on squad size so those that do not make it will find themselves a lower league club and who is to say they will not benefit from learning at a good academy and then getting the league experience. I can see some positives if the lower league clubs can adapt and the solidarity payments are large enough.
  9. Tues 18th Oct 2011 21:50 :- 14 points ahead after 12 games, and also on a record crowd of 32,152.
  10. I nice catalog of characters... I sure we all can recognise some, maybe more now that there are some well defined warrior classes. http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/index.htm
  11. There have been some good reports on this if you want more background information... Timeline of events... http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/interactive/2009/apr/13/hillsborough-disaster-police-south-yorkshire-liverpool?INTCMP=SRCH Articles of the diaster... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/hillsborough-disaster It is a shame that there has been no conclusion to the disaster which seemed to have stemed from a combination of factors - fans behaviour, infrastucture, policing decisions, lack of leadership vary than one single factor.
  12. That's correct, the FL clubs initially didn't back it (mainly because the disparity between league one and the championship would be larger, there was another reason but cannot remember) so the PL then put pressure on the clubs with regard to withdrawing financial support.
  13. IIRC the money is split equally except for the number of times the team actually appear live on sky which is extra.
  14. For it to change from an equal share fourteen premiership chairman need to agree. I can't see that happen when teams like Wolves, Wigan, WBA etc are desperate for cash to compete. It's certainly a good idea to try and tap into the global market though, teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool make hundreds of millions from merchandising, branding and tours.
  15. Two cats on a sloping roof, which one falls off first? The one with the lower mew. The waiter brought me a plate with 2 dots on it. I said 'No, you fool - I asked for an omlette!' All day I've been trying to work out what a void consists of....i've given up. Ah well no matter. Alcohol and calculus don't mix. Never drink and derive.
  16. The abuse is balanced by what he gives out. That's what makes Alpine, Alpine. I don't get your point regarding Man U against Chelsea. The season has too many games for two specific games to define a season.
  17. Not touchy, just using a statement to make a point and elicit a decent response. I don't see how we should or can redouble our efforts - I would be interested to know how you would change things that could have an increased effort to what is being done now. What is lacking to fulfil the team's potential? At the moment what the staff is doing with the team is working, as surely all the team can do is follow the process. Sure the staff need to keep the team on their toes - be aware of complacency, learn any lessons from the last match and focus on the next. Agree on the mentailty, irrespective of money, the focus is to win which Adkins has pretty much stated in many of his interviews.
  18. A shame you don't argue a case rather than being so dismissive and go for a personal attack, perhaps then this forum can be as such.
  19. It's a good opportunity to beat promotion rivals that's all (Derby, Boro' and West Ham). I don't see the need to think about buying in January, the only bit of transfer news would be for Hooiveld and for any player that gets a long term injury. Apart from Cardiff the team have put in decent efforts to win the games so far and there is nothing to say that will not continue.
  20. I agree with you. One thing about Saints is they identify a player they want with the right attributes and if there is a chance of getting them they will but only at a price that's acceptable (eg Cork).
  21. Time to dust off my double glazing samples, I feel a sale coming on.
  22. Wasn't one step to create a viable business to reduce the wage bill to £10m in the second year and then further still? So for a squad of 21 players that is an average of £9.2k per week. 01 Ben Haim £35k 02 Kitson £20k 03 Lawrence £20k 04 Halford 05 Varney 06 Norris 07 Rocha 08 Mullins 09 Kanu 10 Riise 11 Mokoena 12 Huseklepp 13 Ashdown 14 Henderson 15 Benjani 16 Ward 17 Pearce 18 Hriedersson 19 Futacs 20 Williams 21 ? ummh I don't think so.
  23. They also have the super six ticket which is valued at £24 per match for an adult.
  24. What type of pancreatic cancer did he have? My grandmother died from pancreatic cancer and the death rate is high because it's notoriously difficult to treat, chemotherapy and radiation of little benefit. RIP Steve Jobs, who started his entrepreneurial life defrauding the phone company and ended up making billions with Apple. I heard (in the times) the iphone5 will come out late 2012/early 2013. How they know is anyone's guess!
