  1. Different family, Kevin Roberts played centre back for Sholing for a few years, have seen him at a few away games and my local pub recently.Mark Gingell was a skillfull little lad, don't know what happened to him.
  2. Forgot about Nick Holmes, (how could i). Never new he hailed from Woolston."Norman", as he was affectionately known, could always be heard running around the pitch as he had problems breathing.I was told ( not sure if it is true), that he only had one lung.In which case, what a remarkable career.
  3. Yes you are right "Ron", Roberts was at Weston, as was myself. The late Alec Perkins was under 15 Soton Schoolboys manager, and a maths teacher. Not as many lads from Weston in his sides as you might think, although there were a few;)
  4. Yes you are right, i have just been dredging my muddled memory and can only think of two.Manny Andrezewski and Francis Benali. There are a few who came through the ranks and played a handful of games.Just thought of Bob McCarthy, going to have to dig out fitzhugh fella's book and see what i can find. Graham Roberts did slip through the net, god he was hard bar attendant.
  5. I am hopeful for a win against Oldham on Saturday. We are slowly turning into a force to be reckoned with.Thank God they don't still have that synthetic pitch from the 80's, never seemed to do very well on those surfaces, did Saints.
  6. Great player, silky skills, used to glide over the ground, never broke sweat
  7. Indeed,Rickie must be worried that others are out scoring him at the moment, he will want to be leading scorer, which bodes well for us.
  8. Great win fellas, makes the weekend.Couple of sherbits me thinks.:smt033
  9. I have watched Oscar a number of times at youth/reserve level and always felt his best position would be central midfield.Don't laugh but he reminded me of a raw, Patrik Viera.Mind you i have also been known to be wrong.
  10. Na don't worry Alps, i am sure Morgan will come good,so much so, we'll have a job to keep him here. His biggest problem, i think, is his fitness. He does appear to be a little fragile.
  11. FWIW, i agree with you.I could not work out what system we were trying to play, first half or second. At times i think we are moving forward as a team one game, then move backwards the next game, who'd be a manager hey.Highlight of the night for me was when the Torquay player nearly lobbed our keeper, from near the half way line, great vision. Oh and thank the lord we did not have to sit through an extra time half-hour.
  12. Sometimes you have to win ugly and that's what we did,we cashed in on a long awaited slice of luck too.Well done all for that first win.On the negative side, was a little concearned at the amount of room we gave them 2nd half, in midfield, other than that onwards and upwards.
  13. M.M. that is all fair comment, but maybe i did not say things how i wanted to.I actually really think AL is a very good footballer, but, like a lot of people find it hard to find a position in this team that amplifys best his, to me, undoubted ability.I would hate to see him leave the the club, but he may have to leave to reach his full potential in a team that would best suit his style.I hope he scores a hat trick today, finds me in the crowd, and firmly sticks 2 fingers up.
  14. I am sure you are right, whoever advised Matt, viewed it as everyone loves a lovable rogue, so everyone would laugh and say look at that MLT,what a tinker he was.Opps.
  15. Sadly i have to agree.I saw lots of strange stuff during my time, but people were switched on enough to keep stum, let alone write it in a book. That of course doesn't make what they did acceptable.
  16. Had an awfull feeling this was going to go the way it's going.Silly , silly man.
  17. Bet you didn't see Lord Lucan riding Shergar.
  18. You say sorry for sounding rude.....then you are. Derry does not believe he knows better than AP, but he does have an opinion on AL, as a lot of people do and he is not afraid to air it. I thought that was what this forum was about. AL is a young player who is getting advice from lots of different people, some he will respect, many he wont.I am sure he has far better things to do than look for people's views on him from an internet forum. Derry does not think he is an expert, he is in fact trying to find a solution to the fact that AL is a good footballer who needs to find his best position in the team, to make the most of his abilities in the team, before it is too late for him. As for coaching under 7's, that is rude, Derry has coached at a decent level, and his opinions are always worthy of reading, in my opinion, as a lot of people's are on this site and always has a lot to offer in any debate.
  19. I am led to believe, Jaidi had blood tests done yesterday, presumably part of a medical. He was dressed apparantly in Saints training kit and when asked if he played for Saints, replied i hope to be soon.
  20. Only the short ones:cool:
  21. What a real shame that last 10 minutes was.I came away from the game feeling as though i'd been mugged.Well done lads, i really enjoyed watching the cut and thrust football.Birmingham were one of the most physical sides i have seen for ages, and due to a weak ref, got away with a number of dubious tackles, which ultimately contributed to our downfall. As others have said the Murty injury totally threw us in to total confusion, and both their goals eminated from our right wing/right back position. Was a shame for James really because he had played really well in midfield, but looked weak at right full-back.Mind you his defensive partners didn't help. Good to to see us slowly improving, even with the two new guys missing tonight.Special mention for the fans, brilliant all evening even when Birmingham equalised and went into the lead. Most supporters can put up with loosing games(not), providing they have seen total committment and effort.
  22. Totally agree David, but Pardew appears to like him as much as he dislikes Simon Gillett.I still believe Lallana is a good footballer, let's not forget that, he is just a luxury we cannot afford, at the moment.
  23. In the cold lager-less light of day, i don't think i can add anything different to what has been said about wide players.I actually quite enjoyed the game, and thought our new recruits freshened things up.I thought Hammond had a fairly safe debut, lots of little short passes to team mates, not wanting to make too many mistakes, i am sure there is a lot more to come from this fella.Reminds me a lot of Anders Svennson the way he shuffles about.Only better i hope. We still have a long way to go and slowly Alan Pardew will see there are still a number of players who need to be replaced........not enough time, this window, i fear.
  24. Ok fellas, let's expand this discussion/ argument out further.Let's say for instance someone like Steve Coppell was appointed D of F. How do you think AP would react and who would be the senior partner?
  25. I am all for being patient, nodding, smiling and waiting but that performance last night was awful and un-acceptable.Yes we need players, yes we have had a terrible pre-season and build up but for pity's sake why did it take 80 mins to try and change it.3,OOO Saints fans could see the team needed altering.Rasiak looked bemused as he stood on the touch line waiting to come on .......for added time FFS! I can only deduce AP was in shock at what he was seeing, or he has stumbled across some left-overs from a previous regime. In the cold light of day at this early hour the performance seems even worse.I will be there Saturday expecting to see everyone pulling in the same direction, and dragging this club up by it's boot-strings....................
