  1. Wasn't that Marcus Bent? At least hate the right person!
  2. Adrian Heath, Garry Birtles & Scot Gemmill. The latter 2 for the goals they scored for Forest to beat us in Cup finals.
  3. In recent seasons, we've seen these 3 centre backs excel alongside Jose but, of the 3, would you prefer to have at the back, right now? I'd planned to ask this after today's game anyway but it seems all the more pertinent after VvD's performance & goal today. Not interested in how acrimonious departures were; purely who you feel would suit us best. For me, at the start of the season, it would've been Toby, easily, but now I'm starting to think Virgil may be even better.
  4. Listen Ron, results are fine but you ain't a proper manager in this league until you're on camera leaning out yer car window on deadline day givin' an exclusive...
  5. Long aside, our forwards are way off form. Would it really hurt to give Juanmi a start alongside Long while Austin is out, to see if he really is too slight to deal with the Prem? The only true way to find out will be to give him game time and not just a few minutes here and there, off the bench. Pelle, Mane and Tadic haven't contributed too much in recent weeks, despite our recent run of form before this week, so he could at least offer a bit of freshness. I'd go for: GK - Forster RB - Cedric CD - Fonte CD - Van Dijk LB - Bertrand CM - Clasie CM - Romeu RM - S Davis AM - Juanmi LM - Tadic CF - Long Subs: Stekelenburg; Targett; Yoshida; JWP; Mane; Jay Rod; Pelle
  6. The good news just keeps on coming, this evening!
  7. Karma's a b1tch. Lolz.
  8. I think the only change which needs to be made is the final one. Limiting the Champions League qualification to 3 places & offering the 4th place to the Cup winners ought to focus attention for larger sides (particularly those flailing in the league like Chelsea are this year). There's also an argument that the Cup winners have actually won something unlike the 2nd, 3rd & 4th place "champions" currently. Hell, I'd go all in and give the 3rd place spot to the League Cup winners to boost that competition too!
  9. Mark Dennis had a few acceptable red cards. At least, no-one was going to argue with them...
  10. Good point, another clean sheet, a keeper in supreme form & had we had a top class finisher available, like Austin, we could even have pinched it. On to the next one when Charlie hopefully takes some frustration out on the West Ham owners
  11. Wrong thread...
  12. From the Beeb's deadline day coverage: I may be biased but I make those 46% right (unless someone makes an even more stupendous signing later on today).
  13. Makes a fair point, I'd say...
  14. None in or out according to Koeman, except maybe Reed or Stephens on loan. Nothing (much) to see here... http://www.snappytv.com/tc/1324786/552623
  15. Koeman is speaking to the press at 10am today, ahead of tomorrow night's game with Arsenal. Could be a swift end to this thread if he gives a firm 'none in, none out' message...
  16. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/14244014.Transfer_Deadline_Day___live_/?ref=mac The Echo are up & running too! Could be a quiet day for them unless we are loaning 1 or 2 out, I'd have thought.
  17. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/35238092 The Beeb have their usual deadline day live report up & running. Wonder if Jim White over at Sky leapt out of bed with excitement with the arrival of one of his 2 favourite days of the year???
  18. Could be useful to sum up the day, especially looking at Prem rivals, but doubtful we'll be seeing any new arrivals, I'd say, given Ronnie has the striker he says he wanted?
  19. £5 million buys his quiff. The rest costs more... The idea of getting Austin was to supplement our existing forward options not replace them, surely? Unless Jay Rod is nearer fitness than we think our we're planning another new arrival?
  20. http://www.kenyan-post.com/2016/01/victor-wanyama-is-now-ready-to-sign-new.html?m=1 The Kenyan Post seems confident about a deal too!
  21. How about the extremely simplistic: Charlie Austin, Charlie Austin, Charlie Austin, Charlie Austin ...to the Tom Hark tune by the Piranhas. No chance of forgetting the words there! Does unfortunately conjure up memories of the Harry & Jim era...
  22. Based on the assumptions that all 4 of our central forwards will one day be fit at the same time and we continue to play 1 up top with Mane behind him, which of these 4 would you select as our main striker? For me, given the amount of chances we've spurned this year, I'd have to go with Austin as the most natural finisher of the four.
  23. I think there's a good player there in Townsend but not at £14m. Would rather get Matt Phillips for half that.
  24. Interestingly on the OS, Ronald also says he spoke to Austin 2 weeks ago so Saints did really well to keep the deal under wraps right until the end.
  25. With Charlie Austin coming in, this must push Juanmi even further down the pecking order & maybe even off the bench, if all our forwards are fit. Maybe we should loan him back to Spain, for the rest of the season to get game time & rebuild his confidence, & then see if he can step up to replace Mane next season having had some time to familiarise himself with the club already. There's definitely a talented player in there; no way Spain would've called him up if there wasn't.
