Chelsea 1-1 (p.4-3) Saints - Match Thread
Sarnia Cherie replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
When this draw was pulled out of the hat I thought that was it. Playing the European champions at Stamford Bridge would be a big ask but all credit to Saints they put in a solid and encouraging performance. We can build on that and hopefully lift ourselves out of the bottom half of the league. Some posters have said how happy they feel. Well, I don't. I feel really dejected that penalties finished us off. I wasn't confident at all in seeing Walcott, Long and Smallbone step up to take one. I don't know what Ralph's procedure is on penalties. Does he ask for volunteers or choose them himself? Whichever way, for me there were other players on that pitch who may have delivered a better outcome. Walcott has had his days, as has Long and it was a lot to ask of Smallbone. That's football for you but it's hard to take sometimes. -
I agree with you. It comes to something when Souness and Carragher are talking more sense about the way forward for Man U than Neville. There seems too much sentimentality at Old Trafford for the players who were there when Ole played. Jobs and extended contracts for the boys. Personally I hope Ole stays. I detest Manchester United and their arrogant sense of entitlement. He may be a rubbish manager but for entertainment value, he's first class.ð

How can Ralph be in bother for telling the truth? What the FA should do, but won't, is to look at Mike Dean. Did he instigate this charge or was it the FA? I have heard managers say much worse things than what Ralph said but if Dean can find a way to cause problems for certain clubs, Saints being one of them, he will. He gets off on it, I reckon. Odious little creep.

What if you were born and bred in Guernsey making Southampton your nearest Premier League club as well as providing one of the best players Saints ever had?
-
Matt Targett own goal gives Spurs 3 points. You can take the boy out of Southampton.......................................................ð

Martin Atkinson got it wrong, not Mike Dean. We were holding our own up to that point but once JWP got his marching orders it all fell apart. I am still concerned about where our goals are coming from. Apart from Villa, we have a run of games coming up against teams around us that we must win or draw at the very least. If we are still sitting in 17th place with no goals scored after those matches, we have a big problem.
-
Were you saying that 11 months ago when we were top of the Premier League? ðĪŠ
-
Years of practice, mate. Most of it at St. Mary's. ð
-
You couldn't make it up. We need some goals so let's put Long on. ðĩ

It's all very nice getting a point from the Man City and Man U games but matches against Wolves and the teams around us are the ones we must win. Weak goal kick from McCarthy right near the end, it didn't even reach the half-way line. Poor performance all round not helped for me by having to watch the manager sat with his head in his hands . Said it all, really.

Sheff Utd 2-2 (p.2-4) Saints - Match Thread

That's the spirit! All these moaners about the draw. If we want to win a trophy, we will have some tough teams to face both home or away. Get on with it, with heads held high, proud to be wearing a Saints shirt and giving 100%. COYS!!! -
Exactly. No pansies with wooly gloves and hairbands in those days. Proper men, plastered in mud, covered in snow, it didn't matter, playing footie on what looked like a farmer's ploughed field. Good old days.

Mike Dean was wetting himself with delight at being able to brandish a second red card in that game and leave us down to 9 men. No way was he going to change his mind.
-
I hope the Etihad was full to bursting with City fans expecting a cushy 3 points and not having to move out of second gear in order to get them. Memo to Pep: The Saints didn't read that script. Neither of the Manchester teams have beaten us so far this season and there won't be a lot of clubs who will be able to say that. Well done lads and Ralph.
-
I didn't mention there was a problem. Just saying who the ref was.
-
Jonathan Moss is the ref for this match.
-
My son-in-law was watching the game in his new Man U shirt. He was delighted with the result. ð I was hoping that Alex would have come on and scored against them but at least Young Boys won.
-
I hate this fixture as a rule but I am disappointed with a point. I thought we could have got all 3. Not keen on the ref.
-
Ralph hasn't had much time for him since that match. I still feel that a decent referee, just minutes into the game, would have shown him a yellow card and had a sharp word in his ear to calm down. Sod's Law it was Mike Dean and he whipped that red card out before McTominay had finished rolling over and over. I wish him well at Young Boys. I think they have Man Utd in their Champions League group. Go on Alex, score a few, lad.

I am feeling quietly confident about our new signings and if last weekends gutsy display was anything to go by, it might be a pretty good season after all.

Jack Stephens' passion & has he improved?
Sarnia Cherie replied to niceandfriendly's topic in The Saints
Yes and I hope so is my answer to your question. I was cheering him on when he was giving entitled Fernandes a piece of his mind yesterday. You tell him, Jack! -
Good for Stephens. More players need to stand up to the Fernandes of this world. Refs have been told to let the game flow so that's what Pawson was doing. Fred gets on my nerves. Every single incident whether they involved him or not, here he comes with his moaning to the referee. Him and Fernandes were still grumbling at the half-time whistle. A right couple of pansies.
-
That's more like it. A real gutsy display. I got totally fed up with the biased commentators on Sky. How much do they get paid to give us such earth shattering news that Southampton's bench doesn't have as much quality as Man United's? Such an encouraging game. Well done our lads.
-
I have just seen that Craig Pawson is down for us. Like you I felt this game had Mike Dean written all over it. He isn't on VAR for us either. And breathe.
