100% This. Also, its been mentioned on here a few times (whether its true or not, I don't know) that if SFC sign a player for £10 and pay £5m wages over the term of their contract, then £15m is allocated from the transfer funds.....if that's the case, what happens when said player leaves before the end of their contract (as often happens)? are their unpaid wages then fed back into our transfer funds?

You reckon that we've managed to come up with some masterful system that no other football team has managed to do in over 100 yrs of professional football? Do you reckon that our academy will ALWAYS churn out gems off the production line, year after year, that are good enough for a team supposedly aiming for CL football? Do you reckon that we have a fool proof system that picks better manager after better manager...without any break in performance....when no other team in the history of football has done that? You create your own luck, but sometimes luck runs out.

This will get shot down by the "everything is fine, trust Les" squad...that have blind faith in the belief we can keep pulling rabbits out of the hat year after year as #wemarchon

He'll start talking English when he jumps ship to Spurs.

Should be "aren't" in post above!

Trouble with players that can cover a variety of positions is that they are really spectacular at any of them. Maybe he is LB cover with a view of pushing Targett further forward once he's recover from injury.

Its a lot easier to blood youngsters into the first XI when you are are in L1 or the Championship (as we showed) - but trying to blood them into a team that is (apparently) trying to get top 4 is nigh on impossible, especially with the youngsters we have at the club.

This. Just hope he's not Example A of how we cant keep pulling rabbits out of the hat.

I guess I read it differently, we may be resistant to the effects of short termism, but not we are not resistant to short-termism its self.
-
I wouldn't agree that we are resistant to "footballs short termism", our last 3 summers would suggest otherwise...

IF we do lose the ability to recruit players under the Bosman ruling, I think that it may well affect the teams lower down the English football pyramid. The type of players that a top 10 prem team are going to be looking to buy should pass the criteria, as they would tend to be proven internationals (generally speaking) - but are a L1 or L2 team going to be able to buy someone from 4th tier of French football for example. It could be good for British football as these lower teams may have to look closer to home.
-
Great to see him being played in his proper position, and not as a number 10.
-
Hope not, its looks a right mess. Its as if a committee got together to chose a design, and literally everyone's suggestion was incorporated into the design!
-
So, we've suddenly invented some amazing recruitment process that no other club has manged to achieve either before or since?

What worries me, is that we cant keep getting lucky with on and off the field appointments. Its dangerous to assume that as soon as someone leaves, we will replace them with someone better. We've got lucky so far with (most of our) player and manager appointments, but how many teams continue like that year after year after year. #wemarchon is a bit of a rose tinted spectacle IMHO.

I'm probably going to do another Google map of the locations we could potentially go to. Not sure at what point to start it, no need to include all the qualifying round teams like last year, as there are loads. Once Ive posted it up, is it possible for one of the admins to put the link in the OP, otherwise it will get lost in the thread. It was a bit short lived last year; but the idea is to include the ground, hotels, bars transport links etc etc,

Every time this comes up, I suggest Talisca from Benfica. Still think we should try and get him, might have competition though!

Saints in the hunt for Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic

Or.....Koeman isn't very good at developing players. How many people has he improved over the course of his time here, compared to Poch. -
Please, anyone still defending Davis....look at the position he is supposed to play in the team, look at his stats over his career, look how football has changed over the course of his career. Having a midfield of Wanyama, Davis and Clasie (AT HOME) will not break down teams coming to SMS happy with a point. Most teams that play 4 at the back, usually have one (sometimes 2) defensively minded midfielders sat in front of them. One would be the proverbial outhouse, the other would be the "keep it ticking along / pass..pass..pass" type. Or at least thats how I see it !! That being the case, I would prefer our team to be something along the lines of ------------GK----------- RB----DEF----DEF----LB -----VIC------Clasie / JWP / Davis (Oriol if we need to lock down more) Tadic----SOMEONE THAT CAN UNLOCK TEAMS / PRODUCE A BIT OF SKILL / CHIP IN WITH GOALS + ASSISTS-----Mane ------Pelle------ Davis would be my 3rd choice in the "sat in front of the back 4" position, just a squad player in my eyes. He doesn't score enough goals, or assist with goals for his position in the team.....and if you think that scoring / assisting is not his job, then he is playing too far forward for what you think his role in the team is. 5 league goals in 4 years at Villa 0 in 22 appearances for Fulham 18 in 151 appearance for Rangers (thats right, Rangers...I reckon most of us could have got on the scoresheet for Rangers before their financial rot set in) Yet, we seem to play him in and around the number 10 role.....odd.

Im just glad that some people are starting to realise that our incessant desire to accommodate Steven Davis in the starting XI is one of our problems.

And for that reason, Im out.
