Who we've been linked with for January thread...
Saint George replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Na cant have that.....sheez! -
I don't think Cortese's done much wrong to date....The man's a 'winner' and he wants Southampton FC to be 'winners'.....Winners and ruthlesness often go hand in hand.....Just look at another notable winner in soccer....Just Imagine if Sir Alex Ferguson had been CEO of Southampton Football Club over the last 3 years....Does anyone believe he would have done anything much different to Cortese?
-
Yes it is....despite what you may think, Football Clubs are not above the law You seem a tad confused....on one hand you say Nigel deserved more respect than the way he was fired with little public explaination. But on the other hand you're calling for all the gory details to be made public....how the hell is that respecting the man?
-
You probably need to go check to see what the Law thinks about a company releasing confidential employee information to the general public. There's no easy way to fire someone....but if you need to do it, then Cortese's way is the right way. Swift, clean and no loose ends....It's done and everyone can move on, including Nigel........The last thing anyone needs is the saga of endless speculation of who the next manager will be for month's on end
-
No he doesn't....Nigel Adkins was a Club employee and like any employee of any business, was owed confidentiality from his employer.....Nigel will know why he was let go and that's all that matters
-
Fact is NA has has 32m worth of players injected into his already decent squad...expectations were higher than the subsequent achievements ...Oh, and in my business, If anyone doesn't do 100% of what i "order", they better have a damned good reason, or they can go work elsewhere...That's life kid
-
You can add me to the yes list...i voted no in a knee jerk reaction when i heard the news this morning but have since changed my mind....I now think it's the right move and for the best of the Club.....It's not nice that's for sure....But doing the 'right thing' in the big picture sometimes isn't.
-
My initial reaction was much the same as most on here...But on reflection and all things considered (GK **** up, huge transfer funds, good players not getting a game, weak defense, strange subs/tactics etc) I recon overall it's for the best.....Sometimes the 'right' decisions can be the hardest to make. Loyalty is an honorable motive....But if you see something as a roadblock to your end goal, you have to remove it, or you'll never reach your destination.....Anyone doubting NC will reach his stated destination with Southampton, doesn't understand true drive and ambition. I'm sure Nigel will have been very well compensated and won't be out of a job for long..........Another Chapter has closed and a new one has just opened.....The old bus has been parked up and we're about to continue our journey in a shiny new limo. Good luck Nigel and Geaux Saints!

Southampton (and other places in UK no-one has heard of) to get 4g.
Saint George replied to buctootim's topic in The Lounge
No Supposedly about it ....I get anywhere between 12 and 20mb/s down and around 3 - 6mb/s up, with a reasonably decent USA wide ping of around 120 on my 4G LTE phone....Can tether my laptop like it's my home internet connection....It's been a total godsend during the last 2 weeks while waiting for power and internet to get restored after Hurricane Isaac (unlimited data package rocks ).....for reference i think my old 3G connection was around 1.5-3mb/s -
Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
Saint George replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
Of course i accept i could be wrong.....But the fact remains, right or wrong, there's not a damned thing that can be done about it, so loose the God complex and quit pretending that the Earths climate could ever be under the control of Humans....aint ever gunna happen.... As the CholulaKid mentions above....Over population will do more to disrupt this planet and far quicker than any change in climate would.....Ironically, the answer to producing more food to feed the out of control human population increase, is to introduce more plant food (Carbon Dioxide) and make it warmer..ie produce one big green house....go figure -
So what....I quoted and commented on a post at the time i read it....If peeps change their stance a little later then so be it. Having read the rest of the thread and many others on here....I can only say it's glaringly obvious that the bitter anti Cortese obsession is really eating away at some peeps....I recon he must have had diarrhea when he sh#t in their cornflakes or something......It's pretty sad to watch really.

You mean like the skates did?......That worked out well didn't it

There ya go....Didn't think it would take to long before this thread reverted to yer typical alarmist scaremongering.....and it was going so well for a while. Just for you're information....This planet has been around for a fair few billion years and during that time, it's been a damned sight hotter and wayyyyy freaking colder than it is right now......and guess what?...yup...it's still here.....Until our Sun decides to give up the ghost, or produce a solar flare so big it blows our atmosphere into deep space, or we get hit by a gigantic asteroid, it always will be....Humans are insignificant compared with the force of nature and the forces that created the universe. Until the alarmist's quit taking some arbitrary temperature from 30 odd years ago and making that some kind of "normal" datum that all other temperatures, past, present and future should be judged, they're never going to be taken seriously. Relax peeps.....Nothing you can do to prevent the temperature/Climate changing on this planet. So loose the God complex and quit worrying......... "adapt and overcome"...It's the only way. -

The bottom line is this....Win football matches and they will come.....Win more football matches and even more will come....Win more prestigious matches and even more will come...It's really quite simple....NC clearly understands it..... It seems it will take a little while for a few on here to grasp it though.....Thats if they even want to of course -
Because the mods have given up so much ground to the resident Trolls, they've lost all control of this forum and are now just hiding in their holes like frightened rabbits......

Made the move and never looked back....Only thing i miss from the UK apart from more regular contact with friends and family is going to Saints games...But even that hole is more than filled by the New Orleans Saints ......The local stores stock Colman's mustard so i'm good to go Word of advice from my own 'great' experience and from observing the 'mistakes' of one or two other expats.....Once you move here, if you intend to make it permanent, then this 'will be' home...Start thinking of it as that and 'go native' as soon as you can.....'Be' an American and embrace the culture of your new home..........The more unsettled expats i see, are generally the ones that have ended up as just whiney Brits living abroad....Never been able to let go...never really tried. Still thinking of the UK as home. Missing this and missing that and "it's not done like that in the UK" etc etc and never really integrating and seem to be forever homesick. It's not all a bed of roses here that's for sure...you'll probably work harder here than you ever did in the UK, less vacation and there is very little safety net if you hit on hard times....But the Freedom from a dictatorial Nanny State is sooo liberating it's not real...Not sure how it is in Washington but in most States you will regain ownership of your life....especially down here in the deep south Good luck....i couldn't recommend it enough

Just to be clear...I'll call it whatever the f*ck i want...Justification? heh...Who the f*ck are you to dictate what I, or anyone else call's the sport.......na...my response is there to shove your ignorance back in your face.....Shoulda known you're way to ignorant to even notice heh Little Englanders...dontcha just love em ....................................................................................... @Dune...See this thread and many others for part of the answer....... 3 post's and out

The last time i checked, it was actually "Association football" or "soccer" for short...as opposed to "Rugby football," "Aussie rules football", "American football," "Arena football," or any other brand of football. Maybe I'm American, or maybe i can remember the 60's when "soccer" was as popular a name for the beautiful game in the UK as "football"...Or maybe I'm both....Maybe you could learn a little respect for the games history and/or for overseas Saints fans. Tell me...do you shout "It's Football FFS!" every Saturday morning when you wake up to Soccer Saturday?
-
If NC say's he's aiming for Champions League soccer within 5 years then he clearly believes that's achievable and that's good enough for me......I mean, it's not like he's not 100% aware of the resources he'll have at his disposal......Unlike the ***hats on here, blindly trying to pin the tail on a donkey wandering around the field at St Mary's. But hey!...y'all know how to run a Soccer Club way better than our back to back promotion winning Chairman. As has been so aptly demonstrated so many times on here. Happy days peeps

LMAO.....watching the hand wringers back track on here is nothing short of hilarious.....great entertainment chaps, I knew y'all wouldn't let me down...keep it up :) Note the comedy input from the infamous CRU lol .....No wonder they had to start cooking the books a few years later lol Oh how they changed their tune in just 10 short years Monday, 20 March 2000 Britain's winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives. Britain's winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives. Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain's culture, as warmer winters - which scientists are attributing to global climate change - produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries. The first two months of 2000 were virtually free of significant snowfall in much of lowland Britain, and December brought only moderate snowfall in the South-east. It is the continuation of a trend that has been increasingly visible in the past 15 years: in the south of England, for instance, from 1970 to 1995 snow and sleet fell for an average of 3.7 days, while from 1988 to 1995 the average was 0.7 days. London's last substantial snowfall was in February 1991. Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality by the international community. Average temperatures in Britain were nearly 0.6°C higher in the Nineties than in 1960-90, and it is estimated that they will increase by 0.2C every decade over the coming century. Eight of the 10 hottest years on record occurred in the Nineties. However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event". "Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said. The effects of snow-free winter in Britain are already becoming apparent. This year, for the first time ever, Hamleys, Britain's biggest toyshop, had no sledges on display in its Regent Street store. "It was a bit of a first," a spokesperson said. Fen skating, once a popular sport on the fields of East Anglia, now takes place on indoor artificial rinks. Malcolm Robinson, of the Fenland Indoor Speed Skating Club in Peterborough, says they have not skated outside since 1997. "As a boy, I can remember being on ice most winters. Now it's few and far between," he said. Michael Jeacock, a Cambridgeshire local historian, added that a generation was growing up "without experiencing one of the greatest joys and privileges of living in this part of the world - open-air skating". Warmer winters have significant environmental and economic implications, and a wide range of research indicates that pests and plant diseases, usually killed back by sharp frosts, are likely to flourish. But very little research has been done on the cultural implications of climate change - into the possibility, for example, that our notion of Christmas might have to shift. Professor Jarich Oosten, an anthropologist at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, says that even if we no longer see snow, it will remain culturally important. "We don't really have wolves in Europe any more, but they are still an important part of our culture and everyone knows what they look like," he said. David Parker, at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in Berkshire, says ultimately, British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes - or eventually "feel" virtual cold. Heavy snow will return occasionally, says Dr Viner, but when it does we will be unprepared. "We're really going to get caught out. Snow will probably cause chaos in 20 years time," he said. The chances are certainly now stacked against the sortof heavy snowfall in cities that inspired Impressionist painters, such as Sisley, and the 19th century poet laureate Robert Bridges, who wrote in "London Snow" of it, "stealthily and perpetually settling and loosely lying". Not any more, it seems.

It's a principal issue for me....Just imagine if every website you ever visited started to charge for visiting.....and believe me, if peeps like you start paying to visit one or two sites then it won't take long before 'everyone' starts charging....It's not like there's no other revenue streams out there......Some of the very best websites i visit regularly are based on voluntary donations and/or advertising and they are waaay better than this place since it became a pay site.

heh....It wouldn't be wise to even 'whisper' that anywhere near New Orleans Will do
