Would you rather have 16 million Chambers or 6.5 million Alderweireld?
-
They've been awful every time I've seen them and have been getting lucky most weeks. Luck runs out eventually. Looking at the table i think they're the ones in the false position, not us and West Ham based on performances so far
-
If they are all really struggling then don't risk them. Give them the weekend off and get them right for Palace which is now becoming a pretty huge game for us when you considering our fixtures following it

Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC · 17m 17 minutes ago Koeman says Dušan Tadić is out of Saturday's game, while Steven Davis and @GPelle19 are doubtful. #saintsfc

so we are without 5 of our first choice front 6. In fact if you assume Jay would be playing with Tadic and Pelle we are without our first choice front 6 players. *****

A decent loan fee and his (roughly 60k a week) wages being paid by someone else when he would only be a squad player here. Makes sense to me. His wages are enormous and if he isn't playing every week here then he is a luxury we can't really afford
-
That's what can happen when you have players prepared to shoot around the box. Same reason (and from the same player) they beat us at WHL
-
There isn't much to say. Conceding stupid goals and we continue to waste great chances at the other end
-
Our finishing is abysmal and set pieces are somehow even worse. We were the better side by miles throughout but we simply don't have goalscorers in the wide positions Very frustrating
-
They used to have great away support. It's now very much "sing when you're winning" which is a shame. Still better than most, but nowhere near what it once was Bizarrely their home support was much better last season, probably because the majority realised the early season abuse of Moyes was an embarrassment and needed to be drowned out

Van Gaal - "a lot of Saint players were offered to us"
Verbal Kint replied to Plumstead_Saint's topic in The Saints
Whether current or former players he's probably referring to agents "offering" their players rather than the club. You can be sure Morgan's agent, for example, is on the phone to every big club in Europe seeing who might be interested in signing him in January or the summer. That's his job -
I agree with this. Even with 3 central midfielders out (4 if you want to include Toby) we will still have Davis and Wanyama in midfield alongside a talented youngster in Reed. For a club of our size that is good strength in depth and you just can't plan for more than 3 or 4 players in one position being injured at the same time. We are lacking a replacement keeper if Forster gets injured (should be Gazzaniga but he's utter ****e and we can't give him away now) but our main problem is in attack. We have 4 realistic options for 3 positions which isn't enough and even adding Rodriguez back we would still need 1 more. It's difficult though, as just because he is out for so long doesn't mean we aren't paying him. He's still on the wage bill and we can't keep adding players without acknowledging we have a budget which is probably already in excess of last year's
-
You've absolutely nailed it IMO. The only difference between us and the big boys is we don't have that one world class offensive player which the others have. Put a Sanchez, Aguero, Di Maria, Hazard in our team and we'd compete at the top . We have been very unlucky our injuries have all come in midfield but our depth is ok. What we don't have is that one special player who can make the difference and they cost too much for us to go out and buy.

Spot on
-
Should have won by 4 or 5. Haven't seen our final ball as bad as that in a long time. Villa were absolutely appalling
-
You give him a nice clap when comes back then. Everyone else will be giving him the worst reception of any ex player for the last 20 odd years. Hopefully Wanyama lets him know early on what sort of game he's in for
-
Don't be so naive. Nobody is that ****ing stupid. Clearly just on a wind up
-
Why do you think the club gave him, after 10+ years service having been an academy graduate, a 2 sentence statement when he left unlike the tributes paid to some of the others? Does that not strike you as odd?
-
world class players are a rarity and City have one in Aguero who really is outstanding and is carrying them. Spurs had one in Bale and couldn't replace him and the same with Suarez and Liverpool. It just shows you can have all the money in the world but genuine world class players who can change games in a second are almost priceless as there aren't very many of them about

Will Roko and the board go for broke in January!!!
Verbal Kint replied to Bermuda Saint's topic in The Saints
The only cover that concerns me is for Tadic. So much of our play is going through him and we rely on him for creativity. A similar player for him would be great although I wonder if the club feels Ward-prowse is developing into that type. We have no like for like for Pelle but we have other options to play there, we would just gave to adjust our style a bit Sign up Toby and Bertrand, tell Boruc he's staying as second choice for the second half of the season and get Jay back fit and on form. We really don't need to go big in January -
The big 7 are the worst 7 for atmosphere by a country mile. It's embarrassing for the Premier League 'brand' though which is why you hear pundits and others regularly talking up the atmosphere at these grounds. Anfield in particular has become a complete joke
-
He doesn't try and do 3 cruyff turns to beat a striker. Or get beaten by 80 yard punts by opposition goalkeepers. Nor does he put the ball in row Z when trying to play it out from the back Forster is weak on crosses, but every other aspect of his game is superior and at 26 we have him at the right age. He has great potential. Boruc is a decent keeper but is getting on a bit now and makes unacceptable errors

Pochettino asks Levy to sign Jay Rodriguez
Verbal Kint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I don't get it either. He was fantastic last year and is improving. Only mental offers should be considered in January although our position has to change next summer if he won't sign a new deal -
Should have been more comfortable with the chances we created in the second half. I thought we made Stoke look absolutely ****e. We look a very good team
