Thanks pedg. Bumping this again. Why it is not a sticky I can't understand.

Personally I'm not even going to cross the road till the chicken does.

Think how it's been for Rickie! And I expect he's been thinking about the game too.

The problem of course is that all the weight is at the front , but the drive wheels are at the back. So the best thing would be to put her in the boot! I've had pretty good service from Jaguar by the way, and this is my second Jag.

I have a 3 litre XF, so not quite the same as the 2.2, but I've heard good things about it. Really like mine. Goes like a rocket but stil gives 40+ to the gallon a long run -- much less economical on short trips though. Only down sides are: big boot but small boot lid so difficult to get in any large objects. and poor rear view for parking ,so do get the parking camera and bleepers. Oh ,and as for all big heavy rear wheel drive cars , presumably including the BMW and the Merc, it is rubbish in the snow. Doesn't bother me either way, but if it does you, I've noticed that the name Jaguar seems to have more cachet than Mercedes or BMW if you want to impress clients etc.

Bugger! Look what that did for Samson.

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....
Ken Tone replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
Putting aside your 20,000 miles exaggeration, (it's 8000) the Islands would be completely self-sufficient economically if it weren't for the defence costs, which wouldn't be needed if Argentina weren't continually threatening them. It's really the morality of the playground. Big brother (UK) sees little brother (FI) being bullied by big boy (Argentina),and steps in to protect little brother. It really isn't the same as that hypocrite Connery, who chose to move away from Scotland whilst bleating on about independence. The Islanders were born there, and simply want to continue their way of life without being threatened. As to independence, well I suspect the UK would bite their hand off if they asked for it, and it meant we could save the defence costs, but the reality is we'd probably still end up protecting them anyway, via the UN. But even if they did feel safe, it is highly unlikely the Islanders would want independence. They really do feel culturally part of the UKp; they feel loyalty to the crown, and as I've said before even follow English football, with many having a soft spot for Saints in particular, since many of them come from families who originated from the Hampshire area, and have distant relatives here. Of course I'm not suggesting that is a basis for a foreign poicy ,but it does illustrate just how British they are. Oh and btw if the oil fields ever start producing properly, they may even be able to pay their own defence costs one day. -
At the rate they're going, you'll need portsmouth (2013a) and (2013b) football club ltd !

There was some research publsihed a few years back that showed that kids with a strong accent lose it, unconsciously, when they are trying to get on in life/career, but that the accent returns as people grow older and retire.

No problem -- accepted

Alpine I've never had a problem with you. There is simply no need to be so ill-tempered and intemperate in a response to what I thought was a civil post...it was certainly intended to be. You really do seem to have anger management issues. Oh and btw I too think it was inappropriate to have a minute's silence for Gary Speed.

You don't have to put in £1k. All that is required is to put £100in an escrow account, so that when this half-hearted attempt fails ,you can get your £100 back, less an estimated £2.50 admin fee. Any MP chasing votes would be mad not to do this. £2.50 is a lot cheaper than a meal with the PM !

If anybody would like to spoil a good argument by looking at some facts, I recommend http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/ Which interestingly says that although 661 of those on board were living inSouthampton , only 19 were born there http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/place/1/ This seems to give some evidence to support the claims from Liverpool in particular that many of those crew members registered as living here , may have had addresses of convenience near to the port, but really came from elsewhere. The ship was built in Belfast and registered in Liverpool but sailed from Southampton, calling at other ports on the way before the disaster. Does this make it a Southampton community event? My personal view is that this indeed a tragedy ,but just one of very many in our country's history , and since it happened before just about anyone alive now was born, is not a suitable event for a minute's silence at a football game

He states that Chainrai did put money into the club, though there is still a question as to whether his security is valid. This is critical. If the security is not valid , then 'the club is worth what someone will pay for it' makes some sense.v If it is valid, then chainrai can just sit there saying 'not enough' to any prospective buyer who does not offer him as much as he thinks fratton park is worth. So Birch must sort this before he can do a deal.

Lambert has had operation and will miss rest of season. (Rumour)
Ken Tone replied to CFSFC's topic in The Saints
The trouble is, Adkins is so keen on keeping things secret (and I don't blame him) that we may not be clear for some time. After all, after the last game he laughed and said Lambert would be fit for today. My nerves are getting more frazzled by the minute -
Teaching abroad can be good or bad. I know of many who disovered the job was nothing like they thought it would be, or indeed like what was promised. Do your research very thoroughly. Also it is not always easy to get back into mainstream teaching back here after a spell abroad. ..the longer time out of the uk, the harder it gets.
-
That's the money that is earmarked for Gaydamak isn't it? As someone else has said, you have to feel for genuine fans who are trying to save their club, but to be honest if this is the best hope that Birch has of finding a buyer, then they have no hope. They really are doomed.
-
I dont think even they can expect to have it both ways. Either they liquidate and contracts become void, but they lose league place --- or they keep league place but have to honour players contracts.
-
I suspect their plan will be more to pay something like £2.5 million to buy the club, with the rest going towards their ongoing losses. They will not try to buy out Chainrai, but will have to service the interest on his £17 m loan, pay the later stages of a new CVA, and still pay inflated wages for those players whose contracts continue. So I reckon, if they get a new CVA, they'll be fine , and indeed will have maybe as long as .. ermmm ...until October, before they go bust again!

You could even say he was becoming quite ugly inside.

I remember when you could feed a family of 4 for a whole week on a Mars bar. I genuinely can remember when eating a whole Mars bar was a major feat requiring signficant stamina. Now they're less filling or rich than a 1960's Milky Way was.

As said land registry is only the definitve list of recent actual sale rpices . However there are severial indices used or price changes. Eg See http://www.nationwide.co.uk/hpi/ . If you search on that long enough you'll find a regional index for different types of house. This is usually accepted as a reliable measure of how prices have changed. So if that shows less than 3.7% , then you can argue that either the new valtuation is wrong -- or the original one was!

Club Finance Story - On Solent from 7am this morning
Ken Tone replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in The Saints
I have never noticed ignorance stopping you from posting, Turkish And interpreting accounts is something that many posters do know something about. This is very good news all round IMO. The debts being converted to equity is fantastic news. Add to this the Saints finance guy saying that £1.4 million of the wages last year were one-off payments, to Pardew etc, so that the underlying wages were more like 80% of turnover (still very high) and that turnover this season is already 70% up on last, and I am a very reassured Saints fan. -
I love the way this works with or without the apostrophe!
-
That is very likely. The deal for Varney (?) with Forest apparently fell down because Forest weren't prepared to commit to buy at the end of the season. I suppose here is a very faint hope that a player might agree to a mutual cancellation of contract if he thinks he will be able to sign for another club on a free. But the big earners won't do that because no other club will pay them as much, so if anyone is prepared to go now it will be a relatively cheap wage earner who is relatively good... who they won't want to lose anyway.
