This aggression will not stand, man! RIP Phillip - a damn fine actor.

I've seen a number of suggestions on here that Cortese caused problems on the corporate side of things, most notably with hospitality/boxes etc. and with sponsorship agreements. Certainly, I'd have hoped to have something bigger and more lucrative than a local recruitment agency as the main shirt sponsor; I'd certainly expect better next season. The extent (if any) to which this was down to Cortese is hard to say right now, but if we end up with a serious sponsorship deal and plenty of full corporate boxes next season it will certainly be pretty telling.

Which of these apparently divergent things do you think most closely resembles you? I wouldn't like to be looking at the wrong one whilst contemplating you, so I'd appreciate a steer in the right direction. Other than that, hope the date goes well; it's been five years since I went on a date, but it was in Winchester and we ended up married...

Yeah, I agree - I'm crapping myself about that meteorite too.

It would only be difficult to loan out such players if we refused to pay a large enough proportion of their salaries to make the loan appealing to a non-Premier League club. If we'd loaned out a player while still paying half his wage, for example, the player would have been able to play and the club would have saved something on wages. Similarly, you can only sell a player for the amount another club is willing to pay; how would sticking out for a higher price, not selling and still paying the wage of a non-contributing player make any kind of business sense? The club would be spending more than it needed to and getting nothing in return. Of course neither Cortese or the club was deliberately restricting players' careers (and I don't think that anyone is seriously suggesting that this was the case), but it is abundantly clear that something has changed and that that has allowed various players to be loaned out who weren't getting loaned out before.

Yes of course, I hadn't considered your island location. Makes it a fair bit more difficult I must admit. If I hear of anyone with pugs or pug crosses going I'll certainly let you know. We got our dog from Devizes, which is 60 or so miles from here; a phone conversation with the woman selling them meant I felt as certain as I could do that the journey wouldn't be wasted.

My wife's elder daughter came up with that one a few years back - only she refers to it as three drainpipes, regardless of the fact that the 'drainpipes' in question are actually those large concrete slabs which cover BT stuff. Apparently you get out of the bad luck by spitting or saying 'toast'. Hadn't heard about two of them being good luck though. Guess it's a variant on the old cracks-between-paving-stones theme - after all, a lot of pavements are tarmac these days. -

You're married to a fish? Are you sure you're on the right forum? On the OCD subject, my ever-loving wife always, always double-checks that the front door is locked, that the car is locked and various other similar things. She also hates dust and water if it's where it shouldn't be. I wouldn't say she actually suffers from OCD, but these things are a spectrum rather than on on/off kind of thing. Let's just say she's a lot farther along the spectrum than I am. -
I bought my cocker spaniel via this website about eighteen months ago. You may have looked at it already but, if not, then give it a go. I think you can generally get a good idea of whether sellers are genuine (for which read owners, not puppy farmers) by the pictures on the site and a chat on the phone. A visit to see the pups will definitely tell you all you need to know - their surroundings, how they're looked after, whether they're loved or just a money-making thing... Good luck with the search!

RIP Pete - one of the greats.

How could they miss out Porky Penny's Splash! performance? A travesty.

Yes, it was 81-82 where we went top at the end of January and stayed there for quite some time before dropping back. We never looked like winning it that year really though, as other teams had too many games in hand on us while we were top. Was great to be there mind! In 83-84 we were pretty close for a lot of the season if memory serves, but you're right that Liverpool had it won way before the season's end and we came in with a brilliant run which took us to second.

Do you ever post anything in comprehensible English? That sentence makes no sense at all.

I'd always thought that Barry was just Glasgow Saint posting in a style somewhat akin to Dune/Stanley/Mole/Spaceman/SF76/Ethnic Minority Saint/whatthef*ckever - but I could be wrong. In the end though, does anybody (apart from Barry) actually care?

Where? I've read through all the responses to your earlier post, and there's nothing there I'd regard as aggressive.

Forgot one - the Hyde Tavern on Hyde Street, not far from the station. Great selection of beers, really nice ambience, no food but sells brilliant pork scratchings - and you can't get much more English than pork scratchings...

Try the Old Vine, near the cathedral on Great Minster Street. Excellent pub that serves really good food. Very central too. Or maybe the Wykeham Arms, the other side of the cathedral at the bottom of Canon Street. On Wharf Hill, close to the river as its name suggests, there's the Black Boy. There you go - three excellent pubs for you. How the hell is the Willow Tree a bit out of the way though? It's not like Winchester is a massive place - it's maybe five minutes walk from the centre to the Willow Tree.

In fairness (can't believe I've just typed that in this thread!) their laughable business plan didn't suggest that they would ditch the academy. They budgeted not to spend any money on it, presumably on the basis that it would prove to be self-funding from player sales. Which, now I come to think of it, is even funnier.

Well worth a few quid of anyone's money, so why not mine... I reckon you'll love doing the ride - just take it at a pace that suits you and you'll be fine. -
Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
Fowllyd replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
It was what he said more than once in the press conference, so there's no skewing going on there. -
Great clips, Turks - a reminder of just how good he was. Nobody else could have played Trigger so well. He was excellent in many other roles, and very varied ones at that, but to so many of us he'll always be remembered as Trig. RIP RLP.

After the match they would adjourn to the pub, where they were served by the Norwegian barman, Lars Torders. When Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels got lost on a country ramble, they realised that they had nothing to choose but their lanes. -

Something that vulches, of course. What else could it be?
