Absolutely, he doesn’t have the natural ability IMO to play in the premier league. Too slow, not technically good enough, doesn’t read the game particularly well, he’s just average to poor at everything.
-
Think Southgate has had a shocker. Why do we need 4 right backs? Why have we not taken more depth in CM? Phillips is bang average, and currently injured, and Henderson hasn’t played for most of the season. I’m not saying JWP should be starting, but I’d prefer him over Phillips and who knows whether Henderson will be match fit, Bellingham is a huge talent, but not sure we should be relying on him. Given JWP is a bit different to those 3, certainly seems odd not taking him. I really hope we don’t go for 5 at the back with Rice and Phillips sitting in front of them with a front 3 of Rashford Sterling and Kane

Phillips is such an average player, shouldn’t be near the squad let alone starting for England. Massive shame for Prowsey if he doesn’t go, but agree from a selfish point of view It gives him an opportunity to recharge. Hopefully it doesn’t make him feel he needs to move to be an England regular.

Thing is, they clearly all have talent, but they don't have the desire to match their talent. Elyounoussi, Lemina, Hoedt, Boufal could easily have been a success in the premier league if they applied themselves. It's a shame as we need these 20-25 year old internationals to work, otherwise we're relying on the academy which is very difficult at this level. I completely get the business plan and what they're trying to do, but if you don't get the right players in, who have the desire to excel, there is no hope.

Will be a good signing for Leicester, can still play at the highest level, and we'll miss him for sure. Seems odd him wanting a 3 year deal and ending up with a 1 year deal at Leicester. Probably has options of 2nd / 3rd depending on appearances Best of luck to him.
-
Yup but they wouldn’t come to saints in the first place if we weren’t paying competitive salary.
-
With all due respect…premier league footballers do not earn £30k / week these days, unless you’re an upcoming youth prospect, let alone an ex England International. Majority of our squad are on somewhere between £55k-80k/ week, and if we signed Rose I’m sure he’d be towards the top of that bracket.

Yeah lovely. Nice and simple, smart, we’ll done Hummel. Intrigued by the away kit(s)

They put in a whole new system last season which is yet to be used supposedly -
That’s what was mentioned at the fans forum. It’s been completely designed for Saints and has stuff that relates to saints history over it.

I'd like us to get rid of Macca and Forster, keep Gunn as backup, and bring in a new number 1. Obviously easier said than done.

Would be a good move for both parties you'd think.
-
It's shambolic enough with Forster and Macca. But if you add in the nonsense of bringing in Gunn who isn't good enough to displace either of them, when we had no money, was absolutely ridiculous.
-
They're just quoting the Athletic article. I heard it was more like £50k which is pretty standard for a low league prem player. £75k is about £7.8m over his contract, which I'm guessing the club feel like it's value, when a replacement might cost double that alone in transfer fee... Also - aren't both keepers, Ings and JWP all on £75k ish already?
-
For what though? He’s not better than Tella, Redmond, Djenepo, Armstrong and maybe Walcott (who we aren’t getting rid of this summer) Given Armstrong is much more likely to play next season as a “10” rather than a third of it as a “6”, he’ll take one of those starting spots. You then have the rest fighting for the other “10” spot on the left. The only reason I’d bring him back in on loan, is if it was really cheap, and we were selling Redmond and Djenepo and investing in a properly decent left sided player.
-
We need to start bringing in players who will improve the side, not players who are just as shit as the others.
-
JWP played RWB, but it was a clusterfuck of errors, just like the first 2 goals
-
I’m happy having Romeu and Adams in there. Let’s be honest, we’re not aiming for European football because we just cannot compete financially.
-
I really hope not.
-
Another piss poor performance from him today. Worries me if we’re wanting to get him back in the squad next season. Just does not affect the game. Armstrong Tella and Walcott plus 2 other new signings would be nice…such a poor position for us.
-
He wanted to go and play, and we were offered a load of money for him based on his quality. Personally I didn’t see him making a regular prem defender because he’s so slow, but he’s come on a lot at Villa. Fair play to him. Though I’m not sure he’d look as good in our leaky defence!

Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Saint Garrett replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
He’s not a very good defender but he is quite important to how we play when we have the ball. But that causes us a problem when we need him to defend. There has to be a change when this defence has let in so many goals for a good few years now.
