It's shambolic enough with Forster and Macca. But if you add in the nonsense of bringing in Gunn who isn't good enough to displace either of them, when we had no money, was absolutely ridiculous.

They're just quoting the Athletic article. I heard it was more like £50k which is pretty standard for a low league prem player. £75k is about £7.8m over his contract, which I'm guessing the club feel like it's value, when a replacement might cost double that alone in transfer fee... Also - aren't both keepers, Ings and JWP all on £75k ish already?

For what though? He’s not better than Tella, Redmond, Djenepo, Armstrong and maybe Walcott (who we aren’t getting rid of this summer) Given Armstrong is much more likely to play next season as a “10” rather than a third of it as a “6”, he’ll take one of those starting spots. You then have the rest fighting for the other “10” spot on the left. The only reason I’d bring him back in on loan, is if it was really cheap, and we were selling Redmond and Djenepo and investing in a properly decent left sided player.

We need to start bringing in players who will improve the side, not players who are just as shit as the others.

Another piss poor performance from him today. Worries me if we’re wanting to get him back in the squad next season. Just does not affect the game. Armstrong Tella and Walcott plus 2 other new signings would be nice…such a poor position for us.

He wanted to go and play, and we were offered a load of money for him based on his quality. Personally I didn’t see him making a regular prem defender because he’s so slow, but he’s come on a lot at Villa. Fair play to him. Though I’m not sure he’d look as good in our leaky defence!

He’s not a very good defender but he is quite important to how we play when we have the ball. But that causes us a problem when we need him to defend. There has to be a change when this defence has let in so many goals for a good few years now.

Been linked with Danjuma recently too. Wonder if there is a deal to be done there. Think Brooks will be out of our price range

Would have thought, given the first game the fans were back, and the more likely of the 2 remaining games we'd win, he should have started Ings/Adams. Why not just bring Ings off for Tella / Walcott at HT if he can only play 45 mins? Just an odd time to experiment IMO. Can experiment on Sunday if he wants. Sounds like he was then forced to change Adams as he got injured.

Heard we’re paying him what we’ve paid him all season, £45k / week, not a small amount of money, but also not “expensive” for a player that comes with no transfer fee. Clearly a good person to have around the place, but if he’s starting most weeks, then that’s a concern, feels like we need someone new on the left, with Armstrong on the right.

Just me, or is Phillips nowhere near as good as some people make him out to be? Was run ragged by JWP and Armstrong in that first half, and got hauled off after getting booked. Is he any better than just an average premier league midfielder, or should he be starting for England? I can’t see it…

Yeah, absolutely, even if he could only play half the game, should have played the best side, and changed it at HT or after 60 mins if he was done. Very frustrating
