I would expect we're working pretty tirelessly to try and get someone, however we won't panic by and will go into Feb as we are unless we can find a deal that is worthwhile.

Which is logical. However, we were never going to let him go that late in the window. Fair play for keeping him for another 6 months if we weren't ready to sell. Problem comes if we do not replace him.

I think it's a good deal for both parties. They get a decent CB for a season despite his ability deteriorating, and lets face it, £10m is bugger all these days. We get a decent chunk and a decent profit from the deal, and Fonte's best years, and are able to re-invest - this being the key part of it. Can we get by to the end of the season? I don't think we can, hence why the club has been trying to get Sakho on loan. We'd be buggered and risking relegation if VVD was to get injured, even for a few months. I don't think it's a great time to buy a CB as teams unlikely to want to sell them, so a short term replacement untilt he summer would seem like the best move. My bigger concern is what this means for the club in the bigger picture. The club captain wanting out, who else wants out? Why does he want out? Problems with the manager setup, continual selling of players? Lets face it he was likely to be replaced this summer anyway....

Likihood is that we'll probably get 3/4 points from Leicester/Swansea, and get knocked out of at least one cup, probably two. Fonte will go of course but we've known that for a while. Think we need to bring someone else in, even is Yoshida is alongside VVD as first choice. We have to bring in a striker who can score goals from crosses as again last night showed.

Would be a good signing for us with a better defensive unit around him, he'd fit in fine. Only problem I have is us spunking huge money on his wages and transfer fee.
