That's pretty much how I see it too ! Taking the knee is a particularly important issue for Gareth Southgate but IMHO that has run it's course and he should now become much more voluble on the finals in Qatar where human rights are being violated on an institutionalised (and daily) basis ! There is a racial element in this also as Arabs are treated totally differently to the Asian workers who are being exploited ! Everyone knows that FIFA only sanctioned it through corruption and if they are to be called out on it then a few of the big nations should take a stand and pull out of the competition ! I know that this won't happen but surely if gestures before every match are important to you then you have to include all races (not just black) !!

I travelled extensively in the 70s & 80s, carried inoculation documents for yellow fever, typhus, malaria and other diseases. I have also lived in other countries (Germany & Belgium) where they had mandatory ID cards and never once felt that my 'freedom' was compromised ! Given that the overwhelming statistics show that the vaccines are working, I just cannot fathom the logic of those who maintain the they are 'threatened' because they may have to declare that they have been vaccinated ! It's not a big deal, it's not an affront to civil liberty, it's purely helping your fellow man to survive.... I've yet to hear a rational, intelligent explanation for why someone doesn't get jabbed but I'll keep on reading, just in case...

With far less individual ability (they are the 3rd lowest ranked team in the competition), Scotland had a much better game plan and with a slice of luck / quality finishing would have won it ! England will need to improve dramatically if they are to compete with the likes of France, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Portugal ! Home advantage so far has counted for very little but may come into play later on ! The group stages don't tell you everything as some teams peak early and some late but given the perceived lack of fitness of some key players (Kane, Henderson, McGuire etc..) something has to change fairly quickly !

Reading the various reports on this, it seems that the penalty was "negotiated" between the 6 clubs and the PL 🤨. It's been stated as a "goodwill gesture" on their part ! No bloody wonder they got off so lightly, you really couldn't make it up....
