A player is basically worth what someone is prepared to pay for him (and perhaps clauses in the contract) ! TBF Ferdinand has played a helluva lot more games at a higher level than Davies has done, including a cup final ! It is all very subjective anyway but I tend to agree that the disparity between the two fees seems extreme!

I have 2 teams : a) Partick Thistle (birth) b) Saints (marriage/geography) Strangely I have never been accused of being a 'glory hunter' ! My 3 kids (living in Surrey, Cape Town and Brussels) are all Saints fans based on family tradition ! The only negativity comes from 'er indoors' (Southampton born and bred!) who constantly whines on about us supporting a bunch of deadbeats, at great cost both financially and emotionally! TBF she knows F all about football but (although I would never admit it) maybe sometimes she has a point !!!

I sit in the Kingsland and never heard a single boo nor was there any particular negativity! Compared to last year there was a real buzz around me and the general feeling was that the lads had done their best and showed great potential ! At the end of the game there was applause, which given that we lost, was pretty unusual to say the least ! Maybe I was just lucky and there were no prats around me but I got the impression that the fans were quite prepared to give the young lads every chance to settle into this league !

a) The endless queues for the bog at half time! b) The aroma of urine from the brickwall you were pointing at! c) The warm coke served directly from a 2 litre bottle! d) The lack of any decent food! e) MLT's goals v Newcastle! f) Franny's goal v Leicester! g) Le God's winner v Arsenal in the last game v Arsenal ! It's just not the same anymore!

FWIW I am an avid Saints fan but didn't even consider making the long trek to Exeter for an away tie in the secondary cup competition in England ! Total respect to the eight hundred or so who did and that includes Michael Wilde !!!
