  1. ... thread If Tony Adams is on the shortlist, there must be valid reasons for this. I know there is a lot of keyboard-warrior emotion over this, but I'd be interested in what people think these reasons are. What would make you select him for manager? SERIOUS BIT - READ THIS.... don't pollute this thread with anti-Adams sentiment, there are plenty of others for that. THIS THREAD IS FOR THE POSITIVES ONLY. It'll not add anything and just mark you out as a **** that can't read. So what would make him attractive to Saints?
  2. No, I think it was properly directed as was.
  3. The whole thread, Facebook group, marching band etc. is gesture politics. If the club do it for good reasons then great, but they should do it for valid reasons, not popularity.
  4. I'm not shy in defending Lowe for things that I think he did right. But, the fact remains under his tenure we got relegated from the Premiership and that kickstarted the whole kaboodle. Sure we were a more marketable position now than if we were in League 1 and still at the Dell, but then we had more debt to pay off. Swings and roundabouts.
  5. I agree you're not holding the whip hand on this bandwagon, but you were commenting on: "Given the sums involved (and Malcolm was willing to take a substantial pay cut before Lowe booted him out) I would have thought it was totally feasible to accomodate both of them." Hence my "potty mouth" objection. I don't think you know what the budget targets were, or what Woggy's salary was. Anyway it really is an irrelevant argument. Let's just let those that now run the club, run the club. We can only hope they make appointments based on what the club needs, rather than gesture politics.
  6. I agree with that point. That said I also agree with the sentiment that Pearson is a martyr, not a messiah. His record (at Saints) wasn't anything special and anyone who suggests that it was is deluding themselves. His record at Leicester is fantastic however. Could he repeat it at Saints? Would he want to? I doubt it. WGS should be above Pearson on the basis of his achievements at Saints and beyond. That said he hasn't got lower league experience.... Difficult decision
  7. It was more a comment on the desire for people to jump on bandwagons... I've no doubt Woggy is well thought of. Whether his impact would be as catalystic (great word!) as you suggest, who knows. I'm content to let those that run the club make those decisions (balancing finances and practicalities - preferably without fan emotions). I've not really got an opinion on whether he should come back or not.
  8. To be honest Nick - what the **** do you know? To be honest Um Pahars - what the **** do you know? Lots of nice sweeping statements here; 'he is too old', 'he'd improve morale', 'he was sacked through spite', 'sacked 'cos he was associated with the previous regime' etc. etc. You don't know. So why bother commenting. In case you forget we went into administration because a £5000 cheque bounced. Wages like Woggy's contributed to that - and he was a hell of a lot cheaper to get rid of than Rasiak. As a number on a spreadsheet, eliminating his wage was beneficial to the club. Different world now for sure, but that doesn't mean Saints won't be run as a business - it's not a charity. If you think it will be, I suggest you re-read some of Liebherr's comments.
  9. Purely to enter Robbies' sweepstake....
  10. An over reaction by a poster on here..... surely not.
  11. Positives and negatives about both Hoddle and WGS. WGS - Good (Fitness, Motivation, Passion, High Tempo, Style) Okay (Signings) Bad (Midgame tactics (no plan B), subs (McCann for Fernandez 65mins without fail) Hoddle - Good (great subs and tactical changes, organised, defensively strong) Okay (Style, Fitness) Bad (signings - Draper FFS, motivation ability questionable, ego) Personally I don't think you should ever go back. If WGS stays away he will always be a hero. If he comes back, there is a risk he'll tarnish that.
  12. let's hope it breaks......
  13. Yes. If they exist AND if there is anything to say. I don't think there are as many beans to spill as some would suggest. Certainly Jones would have most reason to spite Lowe. No doubt he had issues and we can be a strong united club in ways we could never be under Lowe. I doubt he's the devil some would like to portray (mostly with emotion rather than evidence).
  14. I've just been reading Dave Jone's autobiography and can recommend it. Interesting points to mull over: - damning of Internet message boards and how the things written can affect players mentally. - Says that he suspects most posters live sad lonely lives (in part that seems to be triggered by some of the things said about him in during the abuse case). - Strong praise of Rupert Lowe and what he achieved at Saints. Certainly contrary to the common view and what some, with their all powerful NDA theories, would have you believe. - Unhappy with the way he was put on gardening leave - which you wouldn't expect him to be happy about. - An annecdote about about a kiss n' tell story involving a Saint's player, a laydee and a chicken leg....! Anyone know who that was? He doesn't say. - Warm praise for Saints and fans. In the past (brave new world and all that), but an interesting view. Anyway, read it for yourself. A good book.
  15. For god sake, no! It's one step to deranged fans sending him emails demanding he sign Messi. The guy's "intensely private" according to one quote. Let him be.
  16. ....wanted to be the first to say it COYR
  17. I am for positivity. Let's just not go overboard. QPR have rich owners....
  18. Personally I'll be disappointed if it's Markus as I was looking forward to the "Willi-out" campaign 10 years hence.
  19. History will judge that things happened after administration. In 10 years time, the picture may be different, with highs and lows along the way. Man up and forget the past.
  20. I really don't see the obsession with hoping someone loses his job. I don't know how culpable for the mess we've been in Dave Jones is, and I suspect you don't either. Fundamentally the failure of Southampton Football club came about because of failure on the pitch, not on a spreadsheet governing compliance with FRS10.
  21. More fool you... I've got a lorry load of "Swiss Don't Miss" and "We Love Alpine" unisex t-shirts. I've also managed to get back my investment in 'Jackson' t-shirts through fortuitous outside circumstances. 3 fer a tenner.
  22. ....
  23. Because it looks bad. Like Michael Jackson, sometimes these things can just be innocent......
  24. I believe the best is yet to come...
  25. Not wishing to bite to Nineteen Canteen's obvious trolling comment about MLT, but there is an element of truth in it. I would be happy to accept Matt into a role where he was a figurehead, but I do doubt what qualifies him to be a football club chairman. And if we are still financially constrained post takeover, can we afford the luxury of a ceremonial figure? MLT was a great and probably the best footballer we'll see in Saint's colours. However, that does not mean he's suitable for hiring firing, deciding budgets, strategy etc. I don't know Matt and this is my opinion - I might be wrong. He might have been doing a part time MBA for the last few years, but I doubt it. Clearly he knows the game and can advise on footballing matters, but there's a danger that his opinion will contradict the manager and that isn't a good thing. He's a pundit based on his god given ability to kick a football, not because he's some proven coach, tactician or motivator (certainly not the later!) So for me, active role in the club - yes. Football advice / fan barometer to the business chairman, yes. Outright chairman - no.
