Badly need another striker. Totally agree. The Problem is, as we learnt in the Rupert days, buying Squad players is a recipe for disaster, and has been stated time and again that we won't do that any more. We buy better than we have or we buy to fill tactical gaps and we buy for the future. Anyone signing for us now of the calibre we need, to be better than even just Seager will be on a minimum of a 3 year contract and not short of 30/40 Grand a week. Yes we have the chance to get into the CL but would the new signing be that level of player? Or will we be stuck with trying to farm them out on loan for the next 3 years? Also, a primary component of our season so far has been the closeness of the team and the spirit. (Something that worries me with uncertainty around Cork & Clyne's contracts), so then we have the issue of what would a new striker do who is seen as blocking the path for our injured trio (JRod, Gallagher & Long)? What impact would that have on them and their dynamic within the team? Danny Ings, Pelle or JRod as an example, who would you start each week? Would that mean no place on the bench for Long? IMHO what we need right now is to find another "out of favour" player that we can bring in on loan until the end of the season. (No not bloody Osvaldo) but someone who like Elia has potential, has experience and wants the chance to prove themselves. That makes the search a damned site more difficult, especially as so many players will be away at Afcon and pretty much closed off from contact with Agents and Medicals etc. IF we buy a Striker now then IMHO they must be as good as or better than what we have and not "p1ss off" existing squad members. THAT is a really difficult task and may not even be possible. Time for Les & the tean to REALLY earn their Stripes or Sash or whatever for next year

So, taking a step from the euphoria tonight. Our lads looked knackered tonight. Not when you saw them running around on the pitch but when the cameras panned to close ups. Another thing that stood out tonight, our lads are REALLY Intelligent footballers, even Tadic timing his rolling in agony, mentally, we were streets ahead of Newcastle. That Intelligence allowed us to still play well even though the faces showed the strain of the 3 games in a week, the Intelligence shows in the team spirit, in the way Elia went to RK to thank him for having faith in him. A couple of months ago his Son (aged 13) came to him because he was struggling to download an App on his mobile. The Lad is learning English but was having problems. Dad took the phone and found that the Lad was downloading the Saintsfc Official Web Site for Mobile. Dad said? What is this Southampton? Son said yes Dad of course, I support them now. What? Why? Oh don't be stupid Dad EVERYONE knows them, they play the best football and have all of the best players. Everyone at School is now a fan, we watch all their games. (God Bless JK Rowling for HER responses to that Evil Bile), then Mr Emerson decides to offend most of London and Birmingham and then cause the rest of the UK to ROFL. Mr Emerson is an Expert. He ADVISES the US Government on "Terrorist Issues" and he spouts out that Birmingham is a No Go Zone and that Sharia Law is imposed in parts of London where Sharia Police BEAT people who do not conform. It would be a sad indictment of the idiocy of how US Public Opinion is swayed by their media in general and would have passed unnoticed but for a Mr Simon Ricketts. Simon took to Twitter and used SATIRE to accuse Fox News of Lying. IN fact Mr Emerson admitted as much in his grovelling apology. The hashtag that Simon used has created one of the funniest days of **** taking that I have seen and Political Correctness has flown out of the Window faster than you could say Life of Brian. SATIRE has been used to ridicule a fundamental belief system of the Population of the USA. It was very funny. The entire planet joined in overnight while America slept. They haven't (as yet) sacked the Idiot or the morons who supplied him the data. The US Government have not disassociated themselves from Mr Emerson, YET Murdoch DEMANDS that all Muslims should do this exact thing. There is no justification for the horror of Paris. Some kill people in Cold Blood - Christians did that to each other through history (Inquisitions etc) and also during the Crusades when they slaughtered Muslims. More recently many in the Church killed children's souls with their abuse. This is 12 deaths, how many thousands of people had their lives destroyed by the scandals in the Catholic Church with Child abuse? Faith is Good, Religion can be exploited by rotten eggs in any denomination or faith. The true Extremist wants to live in an obscene version of Saudi society. Not where the woman is revered but cannot drive or work, but a society that will try and kill a child because she wants an education. They want to live in the Stone Age but still have Smartphones. The PROBLEM is that this is an "Anti Civilisation" it has no place for an Opinion or a Political view and so it is almost impossible for a Western mind to understand. Freedom simply does not exist in their minds. It is an almost Communist System where your only hope to advance is to be a part of the elite clergy or "Army of God". TRUE Islamic society is different, it brought about much of the quest for knowledge and science, art and music (although not to my taste!)
