  1. Best 0-0 draw I've seen for ages. Both sides and sets of fans well up for, cracking atmosphere. Two brilliant saves from Kelvin and I loved the tempo we played at. Would think we'll rest a few on Saturday, they ran themselves into the ground considering the team was mostly unchanged from Saturday. Fitness levels now very good, particularly Barnard who ran himself into the ground. Only downer for me were the few idiots at the back of the Northam singing **** about their injured player (I assume a broken leg?) but was pleased to see most of the human beings around me applaud him off.
  2. Oh and "Between Silk & Cyanide" by Leo Marks or "The White Rabbit" by Bruce Marshall if you want the inside story on Special Operations in France in WW2. Between Silk & Cyanide is fascinating but a bit geeky whereas The White Rabbit is Boys Own stuff
  3. "The Forgotten Highlander" by Alistair Urquhart, a tale of survival against what should have been insurmountable odds Or First Light or The Last Enemy given its the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
  4. 15. Mark Dennis
  5. That'll be the dirty great hole they had to dig to get the planning approved. Its going to be a very atmospheric and loud stadium if its ever full.
  6. Matt Le Tissier. Seriously, hatred is too strong a word. Once a Saint always a Saint. Think of the number of certified legends who ended up playing for the Blue Few. And Scott Hiley.

  8. Mate of mine used to work with her at Jigsaw (Mummy & Daddy's company), he claims to have "interesting" photos of her at the Xmas do.
  9. Sadly those Donington deaths weren't much to do with moshing, it was mainly bad stage design and bad crowd control. Rather like Hillsborough it was inevitable people would die at some point in those huge uncontrolled masses of bodies. There's always been a risk at gigs large and small, I remember getting choked at a gig at Southampton Uni when I went over in the pit and someone's arm ended up across my throat. Also remember being rammed in so tight at U2 @ Wembley (Joshua Tree tour) that I could lift my feet off the ground, and I was probably around 20 stone at the time. The year after Donny something like a dozen people died in similar circumstances at Roskilde in Denmark. Those of us who stood on terraces in the 80s will know what its like to be crushed in a crowd like that, as much as I hate sitting at football I don't miss the fear of being unable to get out or catch my breath.
  10. Anyone. Also if I'm in a lift (usually at work) I tend to let women out first. Also walk closest to the traffic on the pavement when I'm walking with the missus.
  11. Hope they die soon
  12. Hope they die soon
  13. Well worth watching the last few laps for the almighty battle between Rossi & Lorenzo. Going to be fun next year if they race like that already as team mates
  14. Yep, its the traditional Christmas dish in the Czech Republic
  15. First game I've enjoyed this season. Thought Barnard was brilliant, so much more than just a striker. Good performance from central midfield too. Nice to see us actually passing it around rather than hoofing it. Bournemouth fans seemed ****ed off afterwards, few minor scuffles outside.
  16. Looked good, busy, and absolutely flattened their centre back towards the end.
  17. The film nerd in me prefers Kubrick for his craft (hey, instead of simulating it, lets actually shoot Barry Lyndon by candlelight) but I think on balance I find Scorsese more watchable. Kubrick has moments of brilliance that far exceed anything Scorsese has done but Scorsese seems to sustain what he does. Great moments from Kubrick for me are the singer at the end of Paths of Glory, the Stargate sequence & HAL being dismantled in 2001, Singing in the Rain and the scene at Thameside in ACO, Joker becoming hardcore in FMJ, the steadicam bike scene in The Shining. What they both have in common is the use of the music to enhance scenes, Singing in the Rain & Layla are forever tainted for me now Goodfellas remains my favourite film for its sheer scope and the quality of its performances. Oh and the "Do I amuse you?" and Henry taking his girl to the nightclub scenes.
  18. Brilliant stuff today. Its a motoring Glastonbury - in that the racing is almost secondary to the rest of the experience. Three very close and hard fought races, the RAC TT was riveting for a 1 hour race, Antony Reid drove a blinder and almost forced his way through to 2nd on the last lap with a spot of touring car tactics - and this in cars worth a serious amount a cash. Saw 250GTO take to the grass flat out on the Lavant Straight - that's £10m quids worth of motor being driven flat out! Star of the day was Richard Attwood, won the Glover F1 race, not bad for a 70yo. Only disappointment was that the BRM V16s didn't run - if you've never heard one of those things run look it up on YouTube.
  19. Been watching his progress for the last 3 years or so, he's always been quick. First signs were him getting podiums in Formula Renault in a year old car, and he's improved on his consistency this year. Not sure he's got the talent of a Hamilton or Button but he's still developing as a driver so who knows. Certainly looks like he has a career somewhere, and maybe F1...
  20. It seems though that virtually every Moto2 race this year there has been a multi- bike accident of the type rarely seen in 500/MotoGP. Whilst Shoya's accident wasn't in the pack the more riders there are and the closer the racing is the more likely this sort of thing will happen. Agree that the field is too small in the top class and that Moto2 is spectacular with so many bikes but I do feel they'd already dodged a few bullets this season - see also the Supersport crash at Silverstone.
  21. Fortunately I was out this morning so missed it, is Scott Redding OK physically? Very tough for him he's only a young lad but they all know and take the risks. I do feel that the large fields contribute to these deaths, there have been a couple over the years in Supersports in similar circumstances. And bike marshalling does seem to be poor, they undoubtedly played a role in Daijiro Katoh's death
  22. And I would say that basically all of those are serial failures apart from Dario Gradi (who has been around for longer than Les Reed). None of them are a Ferguson or a Mourinho are they?
  23. I think an Italian might be required in order to stand up to Cortese. Pardew was too English, too keen to build consensus and take the cautious approach (both of which are a good thing as far as I'm concerned) but Cortese seems to demand decisive brave action with no excuses. Strange that he's temporarily kept Wilkins on but I guess that will be very short term and he'll be gone in due course. Cortese almost needs someone with the same balls as he has, someone who doesn't need to the job, who will tell him to get ****ed in a meeting. Pardew is not a passionate blustering manager like a Ferguson or Mourinho, I could never see him as one to be bawling the players out in a half-time team talk. Ultimately shocked by this decision and feel very sorry for Pardew as I think he was doing a good job and would have got us there this season. Either Cortese is an idiot or we can't see the vision, perhaps he really is serious about making us into a Champions League side in 5 seasons, playing in a 70,000 seater stadium???
  24. Good game, thought we played well but still lack the cutting edge. Lallana had a blinder and should have scored (and probably had a pen as well). Morgan & Deano were much better in midfield, wonder why that was? Only player I would say had an off night was Puncheon, he's a bit lightweight and flat footed at times. God knows what's up with Ricky, he's like Rooney in the World Cup at the moment, looks disinterested and jaded. Was the right decision to take him off. Aaron Martin did pretty good no doubt playing against a boyhood hero. Everyone pales alongside Fonte but he did at least as good as Jaidi and Seaborne.
  25. For the love of god, is this country of Nelson, Wellington, and Churchill? Rules are always **** on company time and always **** on the Welsh side of the bridge.
